  1. buZy, I don't believe a HANS (head and neck support) device would help out in Mat's situation. Hey Mat! How about using shoulder harnesses with the big cushy pads? And, possibly build a releaf into the the pad that would bare against your effected shoulder.

    what motor?

I could get slammed for this but I think the popular choice is the small block chevy!
  3. When I converted the rear end and drive axles in my 1970 to an R200 and the drive axles that came with it, I had to shorten the left side drive axle by approximately 1/2" (this is a U-joint type drive axle). They are pretty easy to disassemble! Be very careful not to misplace any of the steel balls or spacers or for that matter any of the parts, as I believe they are not readily available. I had a machist friend of mine shorten the male end of the axle pair by 1/2" and replicate what was originaly there before shortening so it could be reassembled as originaly designed. It worked out perfectly for me with no more binding on the left side. I've been running this modified drive axle for about 3 years now and have incountered zero issues with the mod.
  4. Rich, its not such a big deal on autos, as opposed to a boat that sits in saltwater all day long. Just thought I'd bring it up as my suggestion will prevent the likelyhood of galvanic corrosion. You should be OK using what you have.
  5. Most likely, yes! However, with this crowd, it would have to be pretty damn nice and being able to view a copy of it would certainly be helpful. I believe there are people already fabricating custom consoles from carbon fiber. Try a search of the archives on this site.
  6. Excellent question! As a performance alternative, you may consider purchasing a set of the shorter quick-steer steering knuckles. They have the later sized ball joint attach holes. Plus you will require less steering input for a given turn, as opposed to stock...great when your in the tight twisties. Someone will chime in and answer your question...hopefully!

    Exhaust Physics

It's always interesting, regarding technical discussions, the nomenclature being used! What I'm getting at is, more times than not people will use a particular word or phrase to describe something and in actuality they are using the wrong descriptive word (nomenclature), even though they are correct about the topic they are discussing. So, what happens to the discussion? It usually turns into a lengthy debate because the people in the discussion are actually saying the same thing but using the wrong words to describe something. Now, I'm not saying this discussion is going that way, but thought it would be appropriate to bring up this bit of information for better future discussions. The definition "backpressure" is one of those words that seems to be over used in discussions regarding exhaust systems and is likely selected to describe a particular phenonema that is not fully understood by the individual trying to describe it. So, for the techie tip of the day.....learn and use proper nomenclature when dicussing technical issues. What do you all think? Sorry for the sidetrack!

    4spd tranny ???

    No! Shouldn't make a difference.

    4spd tranny ???

You can purchase new pilot bushings from just about any auto parts store or go to Nissan. Regarding the distributor for the automatic...if I remember correctly, it is a dual point set-up but is not the type one uses for longer dwell (not a performance type unit). So, yes you might consider one for a manual trans set-up (single point unit) or call Pertonics to see if they have a kit that fits the one you have. Converting to an an electronic ignition is a good thing and money well spent.

    Ring and Pinion Swap

I believe the 240SX R200 diffs are the long nose type, unless the one I'm using grew to a long nose during shipping.

    4spd tranny ???

The automatic transmission Z's have a flex plate, instead of a flywheel, that the torque converter bolts to and does not require a pilot bushing. Regarding the pilot bushings, I believe they are the same from one flywheel to the other flywheel. Regarding the starters, I don't think there is any difference.
  12. Fiberglass does tend to attinuate most frequencies above about 1khz. As for bass responce, fiberglass does little to absurb these low frecency responces. Thats why the rest of us hear those frigging boomer bass setups kids now have in their rides. The fiberglass does however attinuate some of the buzzing and rattling your car makes when the sub woofer is crankin! Don't believe everything people in the business tell you....remember, people once thought the world was flat too!
  13. Bartman, are you spending too much time in front of the tube? Isn't this unit designed for people who haven't figured out how to use a regular soldering gun without burning themselves? Interesting at best, however.
  14. Try using the search function and look through the archives...the answers are there!

    4spd tranny ???

Jim, have you tried the search function? I believe your biggest hurtle will be the clutch pedal....the trans is a bolt up deal! Of course you'll need a flywheel and clutch assy. Do a little searching in the archives and you should find what you are looking for.
  16. Check out ( sportscar-parts.com). They may have what you are looking for.
  17. I think you just answered your own question! I remember looking for an adaptor for a Sparco steering wheel to a Grant hub assy. Basically a six hole to a five hole conversion. I was surprised....one existed. Hope you get it resolved.

    Very tastefully done!!!
  19. Sorry if my post offended you. Just figured if you were perplexed with your situation, you might be better off visiting a mechanic. And regarding your comment about someone being smarter than the next guy.....funny, but I never said anyone was smart, dumb, or otherwise. Don't be so touchy...you'll live longer!
  20. It's for sure a 200+ ft/lbs. .....Have you searched the archives?
  21. Without coming off too sarcasticly....if you can't answer your own questions about your current injectors, how in the world will you deal with installing a turbo setup? You may want to consider taking your Z to a quailfied mechanic for a complete tuneup. Your a lawyer...you can afford it! Or, as one does when preparing a legal matter.....research, research, and more research.
  22. I'm telling ya, these boys got dropped on their heads one too many times!!!
  23. I can see it now.......Both of these guys are victoms of a twister that landed them on their heads. Upon picking themselves up off the ground and rubbing their heads, once the twister subsided, the one guy says, "Hey, I have a great idea! Lets build an ugly car with saddle bags and a Kansas City Chiefs sticker on the side!" The other guy says Brilliant!
