  1. Well, with enough time, money and fabricating experience you can do just about anything! However, if you use the search function and read about the usual differential and halfshaft conversions, you will discover there are OEM Datsun/Nissan parts that will do the job and handle alot of horsepower. They won't cost you a fortune either. It's all there for the reading! Good luck 280zwitha383!
  2. I second that emotion Terry! Well put.
  3. I'll bet that little sucker will be back for another ride!
  4. It might help to know how you intend to feed your 383SBC!! Will it be via EFI of carburator? Typically on carbs you will not need more than 5 psi and of course a pump that will supply an appropriate GPM. EFI systems (like on a 280ZX) requires a higher pressure...somewhere in the 15 to 30 psi range. If you have never plumbed a fuel system and do not have the knowledge or experience to do so....get with someone who has the knowledge and experience to help you. That my advise anyway!
  5. Ahmen to that!!! I couldn't have said it any better!
  6. Is there something special about this particular paint? IMO it looks like the standard metalflake paint. Just curious.
  7. No, just replumb from your header collector back. Now I'm not too familiar with the ZX cars, but where are you going to stick a 40" long muffler?
  8. Thanks for the headsup. Its nice to learn something new each day! Thanks again GrayZee
  9. Chris, Aaron is correct about the vibration. You may not notice it too much at lower speeds and under small loads, but you are more likely to hear and feel a vibration under heavier loading (putting your foot in it!) and at some higher speed. Usually, there will be a frequency (a particular speed the driveshaft is rotating) that the U-joints will resonate (at the resonate frequency the vibration will increase significantly) and will become obvious to you. For testing purposes only, it should be OK to put it under load to see if you have a vibration...I don't recommend leaving it that why for very long if you do in fact discover a vibration in the driveshaft. If we meet this weekend, we can discuss it further. Tom
  10. It will work for sure, but with a less than aligned situation you will shorten the life of your driveshaft U-joints and if you tend to do dragstrip type launches, you may wind up with a broken driveshaft. My recommendation is to spend the time and readjust it as best you can.
  11. Feeling lucky today.....? Yes you can install triple carbs on the N42 head without an issues, as long as you have the correct manifold for the triples. You will no longer need an ECU with the triples. And yes, the engine and transmissions will interchange. Be aware, depending on which year transmission you swap, the clutch fork assembly will require changing to a later version. Spend some time and search the archives for more detailed discussions on your questions.
  12. Interesting! Could you please explain the difference. I thought all L6 engines had the same oil pump and distributor drive, which as we know is driven by an intermediate shaft, between the oil pump and distributor, off of the crank.
  13. Well, I'm not so sure this would be legal (not that it matters and hey, the US military does it) but, if his 2000 acres are fenced (deliniating his property)....post signs that say "WARNING: TRESPASSING PROHIBITED-ALL OFFENDERS WILL BE SHOT ON SIGHT". You know, just like the old days of the west!
  14. Heck, with a garage that nice I'd be affaid to use it for fear of marking it up! Must be rough dealing with such overkill.....but I'll take the lift for sure!!!!
  15. Did anyone else notice the questionable welds on the rear reinforcing members?
  16. Hey everybody, I just wanted to take a minute to personally thank the website host, all the administrators, and all the folks that participate and contribute to the wealth of knowledge, about our beloved Z cars, available here at HYBRIDZ. I, for one, have learned much and know that without such a valuable resourse, I would still be scratching my head on a number of issues. I also like the social asspect of interacting with members, from all walks of life and from various countries, on a universal subject....the Z car. Compared to the many other Z car related site, HYBRIDZ seems to be the leader on technical knowledge for making the old Z cars getup and go, as opposed to others that tend to be mostly social events discussing general knowledge and history on the Z cars. So, as one member to the rest of you members....THANKS YOU ALL !!!
  17. I have to agree with that statement.....some friend!!! Ah hell, go hit on his girl friend. You might get more than your engine back! Good Luck to you.
  18. Beeeeeeeeeautiful car for sure.....but it still looks like a 250GTO Ferrari. What I mean is, that there alot of people who would certainly recognize it as a Ferrari 250GTO but as a Scorpion.....not likely! I still love the car though!
  19. Yah, I hear they're going to put a set of those babies on Michaels F1....less rotating mass and all. Have you seen the skidpads test results???
