  1. Haha, you know what, I've been thinking the same thing all week (and I've got a 280ZX also)! I've always wanted to do some kind of cross country road trip before I settle down, and Route 66 sure beats my original travel plan. I have the added bonus that I'm located in CA, so I get to start at the very end of the Route. But yeah, I totally loved this movie, as much for the car guy inside jokes as for the visual appeal. I'm probably going to see it again too. Oh, did you guys make sure to watch it all the way through to the end of the credits?
  2. What about NASA? Do they issue their own racing licenses too?
  3. I don't have any open lugnuts, so how should I tell how much more length I need?
  4. What timing..I just came back from Fanimecon this last weekend. Though I haven't really been into anime since the mid-late 90's. Haha, maybe I'm just showing my age, "But today's anime just doesn't compare to the anime we had back when I was boy!"
  5. The e-brake is indeed involved with drifting: it's used by beginners as a way to assist breaking the rear end loose until they learn more advanced ways. And it's used by veteran drifters to help assist them in the drift, if necessary. So basically one use is to initiate (beginner) and other is added control (advanced). If you watch in-car footage of pro drifters, you'll see them yank up on the e-brake periodically.
  6. I have to say, this' something I'm interested in too, for much the same reasons. It'd be even better if the conversion is like GM's Flexfuel vehicles that use either gas or E85 interchangeably, though I don't know what's involved with that. Cuz at the moment, there aren't too many E85 stations around except towards the Midwest.
  7. I'm not using spacers on my 280ZX, but for some reason, the thickness of the new wheel means that it's about 6 threads (or so I've been told) that the lugnuts (McGard Splinedrives) are holding on by. So is that enough to be "safe"? I've driven to LA and back, and driven in a short autox with no apparent problems.
  8. It should come with a mounting bracket so you can keep it in your car...for use on carjackers.
  9. "As a trailing note on the DOT ratings, if your car was designed for a particular type of fluid (especially prior to the development of DOT 4 fluids), you should make every attempt to stick with that fluid! For example, if your car was delivered with DOT 3 fluid, the internal components of the system (seals, brake hoses, and fittings for example) were specifically designed and tested for compatibility with DOT 3. Because DOT 4 fluids contain a different chemical composition, the system may not necessarily react in a positive fashion to the borate esters floating around in the mix. In other cases, just the difference in viscosity of the two different fluids may cause the seals to wear at different rates. What starts as an annoying squeak might eventually become a torn seal or worse. The examples could go on and on, but the message here is this: it’s fine to upgrade from DOT 3 fluid A to DOT 3 fluid B, but you should think twice (maybe even three times) before switching from DOT 3 fluid A to DOT 4 fluid of any sort. " This section here has me a little worried. I wonder what years of Z are compatible with DOT 4 in that respect. Like, when did Nissan start using DOT 4 in the Z cars, or at least made them compatible with it?
  10. Hehe, be sure to add "Death Race 2000" to that car movie night list! It's out on DVD now.
  11. The MSD SCI is just a recolored 6A, for marketing purposes. Another alternative is the Crane Hi6 ignitions. They're comparable in performance and don't require pills to set the rev limiter on the models equipped with one.
  12. I can't believe insects are such a huge issue in Tokyo (a city, not a rural area!) that they have to put those funky things on all their police cars! I mean, if they actually stopped bullets or something, I could see the use..
  13. The art style looks like this Chinese "manga" I have called "Top Speed". It doesn't have any old Z's in it, but it's still pretty cool (it's translated in English).
  14. One of the best classic car movies of all time was just released on DVD: Death Race 2000! It's just a hoot to watch!
  15. On mine, I installed a quad fuse holder. I think I chose 60A fuses. I posted either on here or another Z forum about the fusible links ratings and chose the fuses based on the average of them I think. 3 of the fuses are for the 3 thicker (approx 12-14ga) wires that fed into the bottom of the old fusible links box. The 4th fuse is for these 2 thinner (maybe 16-18ga each) wires that connected through the same fuse. I think these 2 thinner wires may be the green/brown wires you're talking about (mine're wrapped up in black loom wrap and tape at the moment). It's been awhile since I'd last fiddled with all that, so this' all just from what I offhand remember. ^^
  16. So did you call in to try and win the tickets?? How long did it take for the right answer to come in?
  17. Hehe, for some reason, the front shot of the car kinda makes me think it's "cute". I keep thinking it's some little anime character/face that's got a wavy mouth cuz it's about to cry.
  18. I'd read in a Datsun/Nissan sports car book that the Turbo had a different sized rear swaybar. I don't remember if the front was different though.
  19. OMG, that is EXACTLY what happened to my 280ZX! The previous owner had installed poly bushings and one day several months ago, I was driving a normal sustained speed on the freeway when I hear this loud clunk like something bouncing off the underside of my car. But everything seemed to run fine until I stepped on the brakes, when I felt the car swerve to one side. Thank god I didn't have an accident! I would find that the TC rod on one side had snapped just like you described. And then coincidentally, a week later, the other TC rod snapped on the freeway too! I'll try that half and half thing you describe next time.
  20. I'm going to be attempting something like this soon with putting some aftermarket Recaro's into my 280ZX, using the original seat sliders. I've already got an idea how to do it but we'll see..

    S30zx?

Unfortunately for us 280ZX guys, the S130 featured in that game is only available as a 2+2. But there is a great looking front bumper available for it that I've never offhand seen on any real 280ZX.
