  1. Very cool site, As well as a Z i also have a 1960 Mini Racecar, x Canadian Saloon Car Championship winner (now a Turbocharged 1370cc 200+HP and it only weighs 550kg). I have raced against a 197hp 1600cc Vtec powered mini and i smoked him, much to his surprise! My Mini below, (it will be for sale soon if anyone is interested)
  2. Or you could look at inserting some pieces of tube through the frame rail, that the longs bolts would go through, this way you would not crush the rail.
  3. Finally picked up my new rear end on the weekend, i got the clutch type LSD R200 from the back of a R32 GTR skyline, complete with the half shafts and monster CV's and also the rear hubs/bearing assemblys/drive flanges etc. I picked up all these bits for only NZ$700 from a guy parting out his GTR. I will be building new rear hubs/struts much like Jamie T has done, so i can utilise GTR hubs with the monster GTR outer CV joint going thru them, to get rid of the puney stock z stub axles, i will have to shorten and respline the standard GTR drive shafts, but this shouldnt be a problem. This swap will also yield me the GTR 5 lug flanges. Should all make for a pretty tough rear end.
  4. Nice one JT, Good numbers at the wheels. I so cant wait to see what my RB30DET makes on the dyno?
  5. This is the only reason that i chose to go GTR R200, heaps lighter. Sorry two reasons, the other was because the GTR uses a mech LSD centre. Looking good Jamie! Looking forward to seeing the pic's of the finalized rear frame.
  6. More nice work Jamie! Your car will be an awesome piece of kit when finished!
  7. Hi guys, I wouldnt recomend using the S15 6 speed behind an Rb25det at all. I own a S15 200sx SR20DET with the six speed box (184kw stock). All i have done to it is added a full aftermarket 3" mandrel bent exhaust with a twin pipe off the exhaust housing (to keep wastegate seperate) & A pod air filter, this added another 46rwkw! (very restrictive factory exhaust) After only 17,000km my gearbox was absolutly worn out. The torque is just too much for the six speed box, Ok i drove it fairly hard, but still. I have looked into this since and it seems to be a common problem with these boxs, i would hate to think what they would be like behind an engine with even more torque like a moded RB25DET!
  8. Oh silly, its obvious - you forgot to paint PORSCHE in black on the caliper, whats the world coming too?
  9. More displacement? Have you not seen the specs in my signiture? I am running a 3L RB!
  10. Has anyone heard anything about any of our regular posters from the affected areas, New Orleans etc. ????? Have seen some of the destruction and caos on CNN, OMG! It is unbeleivable! Poor bast__ds. I just cannot imagine what it would be like for those people affected and in the worst of this. And then as if this was not bad enough, for people to then do Looting and raping (as we hear in the news reports) this is just beyond comprehension! We never truley appreciate what we have until it is gone.........well not until times and events like this anyway. My thoughts & hopes are with you all!! Clint T
  11. Just been watching this on CNN way down here in New Zealand, sounds like its gunna be a bad one! I hope all you guys are tucked up safe & sound and i wish you & your familys all the best of luck at avoiding it and keeping safe. Fingers crossed for you all, and i look forward to the hearing reports tommorrow that Katrina missed you all!! Good luck. Clint T
  12. Rob, In regard to sourcing some studs, give Wurth a try, I use to work for them here in NZ for a couple of years, they have a very large range of exhaust type studs. Clint T
  13. Hey Rob, Nice one, looks like you are making some real progress with this now!! What are you going to do in regards to getting a bolt up through the inner end of the transverse bar? (above the round bush mount) I generally dont like to clean up welds with a grinder, (dont want to remove too much weld/metal) you could possibly use some kind of sanding flapper disc to clean up any splatter etc. I hope you had the heat wound up when you were welding the tube to the solid steel parts, as it would take alot more heat to get good penatration (now theres a word i like ) into the solid. You dont want them falling off! Nice one Rob.
  14. Also the R200 short nose from the rear of a R32 GTR skyline is clutch type LSD and has the large 6 bolt output CV's (like the 300ZXTT)
  15. Its not that big. I doubt lag will be an issue, i will be running a 3.0l RB (absolute torque monster!) This is the reason i went for the larger 1.06 a/r turbine housing, otherwise the thing would just skid up as soon as i touch the gas pedal. If this wasnt going to be street legal, and just an out & out race car i would have gone for the GT42R.
  16. By the time they got all the way down here to NZ they were all broken up, so i sprinkled them over some icecream, and they were very tasty!!!
  17. It was like Xmas morning today!! !! I have just recieved delivery of my brand new Garrett GT35R 1.06a/r on the exhaust side. & the Tial 44mm "V" band external wastegate (which btw is a awesome piece of kit) In this spec the puffer should be good for upto 700hp on my RB!! I ordered these items from James Thagard (240z Turbo) on this site. He gave me a great deal on price etc and i was very happy with his communication etc throughout my dealings with James. I paid via Paypal (which was my first experience with this system and it was very good and nice and easy) When i opened the parcel, there was even a little surprise in there, a little bag of M&M cookies I would highly recommend anyone looking for a turbo or related components to contact James Thagard on turbo@speedshopthagard.com or check out his site http://www.speedshopthagard.com Thanks James
