  1. What are the gear ratios in your transmission? What size wheels and tires? What's the redline on your engine? Is this a street or a track car?
  2. Tokico outsourced all their US assembly and distribution operations to a third party company called Belshore, Inc. here in SoCal. Its been a nightmare since late summer last year. I was a Tokico Warehouse Distributor for 6 years and quit as a result - having spent hundreds of dollars in Fed Ex overnight fees sending missing and replacement parts to customers when Belshore screwed up. I'm still waiting on drawings from Bilstein so I can make the M48 gland nuts that don't exist anymore.
  3. In my experience, clutch pack LSDs don't seem to generate as much heat as a Quaife, but my experience/comparison isn't a fair one. I'm comparing the OSG in the R200 behind my 350Z to the R180 in my 240Z. In either case, for track use you'll want to keep an eye on how warm the diff gets (put your hand on it, but be careful) and change the fluid after the event if the diff cover is too hot to touch. The OSG Super Lock can deliver 100% of the torque available to the rear wheels. With their default Spec-S settings the clutch packs are fully locked up at 336kg of torque at the diff. Whether the tires can actually use that is another issue.
  4. Agreed. I ran 325hp through the stock feed and a -4 return line without a problem. The return line might be the issue. I seem to recall that Nissan had a built in restrictor in one end of the return hard line (it was swagged over to a .032" pin hole IIRC).
  5. My old race car ran a Quaife in its R180. It handled 325 hp and 275 ft lbs. just fine, although I eventually ran a diff cooler because the Quaife will really heat up the fluid. The Quaife does not lock to 100% but gets to 80%. Its a torque biasing diff which means that torque will go to the wheel with the most grip, unless one of the wheels has no grip at all. They are very quiet and unobtrusive in normal street operation but will make a small whirring/growling noise under a lot of power in a corner.
  6. I would not recommend it. That cross member reinforces both sides of the LCA front mount.
  7. Wheels and tires a big areas for weight savings. Fiberglass dash, remove the carpet, jute, and sound deadener, run a R180 instead of an R200, 4 speed instead of 5 speed, light flywheel, SUs, rear drum brakes...
  8. OSG wants some testing miles on the new engine before pushing it with a turbo setup.
  9. I don't have any real statistics, but when I flagged at the big track a few times for SCCA most of the calls came in from turns 2 through 5. Most people remember the big offs in 8 and 9 because of how spectacular they can be, but there's a lot more incidents in 2 through 5, at least what I've heard and reported on the radio. Most folks who know what they are doing have a lot of respect for 8 and 9 and will only pass in those turns if they have a clear run on the car in front and know the driver they are passing.
  10. A 100 mph crash on Streets is exactly the same (energy) as a 100 mph crash at the Big Track. FYI... there are more wrecks Streets then at the Big Track.
  11. The relined ones are like brand new. Contact these folks: http://www.jgrelining.com/.
  12. No it hasn't been done and its not needed. Do a lot of searching on this site for what other high horsepower builds have done to reinforce the chassis. Body on frame is not how its done anymore.
  13. It wrecks the car from a structural standpoint.
  14. You can get the following performance tires in 225/50-15: BFG gForce Sport Falken ZIEX ZE 912 and 512 Toyo Proxes 4 Toyo Proxes RA Hoosier A6/R6 Yokohama A048
  15. No S30 came from the factory with T-Tops. Some dealers installed an aftermarket unit.
  16. That printed sand is cool. Once they had developed printing on polymers it was only a matter of time time until they could do the same with other materials. Just waiting for printed Aluminum.
  17. I'm currently working with these guys: http://www.facebook.com/gofxmd?sk=wall on a 280Z build for the Street GT class in Global Time Attack. We've had some preliminary discussions with OSG regarding the new TC24 but two things kept it from going any further - project schedules and OSG's reluctance (for now) to run the new TC24 in a turbo application. I've done a lot of searching and the normally aspirated TC24 in a S30 will be in essentially unlimited classes with NASA, SCCA, and GTA, which requires a turbo to be remotely competitive - at least here in the USA. The TC24 is not eligible for any vintage racing class, it would have to run in an exhibition class which gets no points, no championship, no trophy. And Tony is correct regarding street use in CA. Its not smog legal in any S30 chassis. If someone is paying that kind of money for a car it would be kinda silly to risk it.
  18. Honda B series, Toyota 4AG, Mazda Rotary, Mazda B series, Toyota 22R, ...
  19. BTW... earlier this month I got an update from OSG regarding the new TC24:
  20. I strongly recommend spending more money for a 110v welder and using wire with gas (MIG). Go on eBay and bid on items like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lincoln-SP-135T-K1873-1-MIG-Welder-/120848742202?pt=BI_Welders&hash=item1c2325773a This is a reasonable option new, but you'll outgrow it quickly: http://www.ebay.com/itm/LINCOLN-ELECTRIC-HANDY-MIG-WIRE-WELDER-K2185-1-/320813588756?pt=BI_Welders&hash=item4ab1fae114 You can't go wrong with a Lincoln or a Miller.
  21. A Koni or Bilstien shock can be revolved for about $100 per shock to get the traditional 90/10 drag racing shock. As set of new shocks of any kind will solve the rebound bounce in the video. You might want to up your front spring rate to about 250 to keep from slamming down hard.
  22. Driveline packaging is a pain with a backbone chassis. They are generally not used in production vehicles because the weight benefits get offset by the additional structures needed to meet offset and side impact rules.
  23. ...but have the good sense to know they ain't.
