  1. Exactly! New folks tend to focus on weight distribution as some handling nirvana when history has shown that cars like the Integra Type R (60F,40R) and the Porsche 911 (40F,60R) can be tuned to handle extraordinarily well. As the old Porsche saying goes, "You can't turn a pig into a thoroughbred, but you can make an awful fast pig."
  2. Did anyone notice the new 1/8th mile speed record set yesterday at the Winternationals? 288 mph! Zero to 288 in 660 feet (2.20 football fields!) That's staggering.
  3. VW Golf TDI and then install a propane kit, chip, exhaust, etc. Better fuel mileage and 250hp.
  4. Have him demonstrate it. Newer 110v welders can do a better job then this one, Inverter technology has come a long way.
  5. You're on the right site. No purism allowed here.
  6. With those soft shocks and soft springs, I would not run a 4" ride height (measured at the rockers). I'm safe to assume that the recommendations above from Lean, Jon, and I assumed springs over the 250 lb. in. mark.
  7. Getting power down is the most important aspect of fast lap times. Moving weight back (within reason) is important for RWD cars.
  8. Search please. No car in California is exempt from compliance with smog laws. 1975 and earlier don't have to do the bi-annual or sale smog tests.
  9. I'll weld on a fuel tanks but I first send it to the local radiator shop to have it flushed. Did the water thing once and got a big WHOOSH out the filler tube when I started welding. Water is not a cleaning agent or a solvent with gasoline.
  10. I think you have more then enough documentation to increase the value of your car beyond the insurance company totaling it. Just lay it all out and prepare to fight.
  11. The stock L6 engine moved back 6" and down 2" gives a 48F/52R weight distribution with a composite hood and hatch. And you guys responded too quickly - this thread was Shed material. There is no BEST!
  12. A general discussion... The higher the roll center the lower the rolling moment. The springs (including the ARB) resist that rolling moment. This is good because you increase you're increasing suspension tuning ability. But, the higher the roll center the greater the non-rolling/overturning moment. That's bad because the car tries to two wheel. Because you are making sure you're roll centers are above ground we don't need to worry about jacking. My blind guess on your CG is about 16" above ground so I would start at 2" front and 2.5" rear to increase your tuning ability with springs. I'm also assuming you're not going to have a lot of total suspension movement. FYI... your stability at 140+ mph will have far more to do with aero then roll centers.

    R200 spool.

100% lockup. Can be made to work well on a road race track.

    R200 spool.

Depends on the price and who makes the spool.
  15. They charge for hardcopy. On-line is free.
  16. Ar .32 seconds you can see the fire bottle fly into the passenger footwell. Very poor mounting. Remember, a 20lb. fire bottle will weigh 200+ lbs in a 10G hit. That driver knew what he was doing when it came to post accident procedures. You should practice bailing out of both sides of your race car a few times per year. Most suits give you 15 seconds in direct flame before you're burned pretty bad. Someone recently suggested putting masking tape over your visor and holding your breath for each practice session in case the interior of the car is filled with smoke.
  17. The cord stock is 1/4" square and the clamp width is about 1/2".
  18. The the LSD should be the first thing on your list. It is the most important thing for fast lap times.
  19. The eBay sellers put up a generic Tokico shock picture. Its not a picture of the actual unit you're buying.
  20. An update... I've got a customer that spent some money with Hoerr Racing getting his ring and pinion REM treated. He claims a 55 degree drop in diff fluid temps as a result of this mod. http://www.hrpworld.com/index.cfm?template=services
  21. Take it a part and assemble it correctly.
  22. The S30 is not designed for hub centric wheels or brakes. Nothing that I've ever seen sold for the S30 is hub centric.
  23. With that tall of a tire you'll want a 3.90 to 4.38 rear gear depending on what you plan for your top speed.
  24. You should not run two proportioning valves. If you install the Wilwood adjustable valve then you should remove the OEM valve.
