  1. Greg runs the twin SUs because the SCCA EP rules require it. Would he run 44 Mikunis or 45 Webers if the rules allowed it? Absolutely. If I had a 3.1L stroker engine in my street car I would go FI without thinking twice. You can run SUs on a 3.1L stroker just fine with proper tuning.
  2. I would defiantly have the crack tested before putting them on any car. Real magnesium wheels need to be inspected periodically.
  3. Yes, just drop the spring. There is no need for preload.
  4. Sounds like the master cylinder is not returning to its beginning position. The pushrod from the booster to the MC might be too long. Did you remove the MC at any time?
  5. You'll need a new core support and an upper frame horn. Your strut tower is probably OK.
  6. Welcome to the addiction. You've had your first hit on the track crack pipe.
  7. The answer is... it depends. SUs work on a 2.4L engine that makes around 240hp and spins to 8,000 rpm. If you're just going to bolt-on some junkyard SUs to a generic stroker then you might have problems. If you're willing to spend some time and effort on research and tuning you can make SUs work fine on a stroker. Especially a street engine that sees full throttle about 1% of its life.
  8. All joints must be welded 360 degrees. You will fail tech with SCCA and NASA. Beg, borrow, or pay for a MIG welder and use a Tweco #3 gun with a flexible swan neck and .023 wire. You can get to those spots with that gun. In the future, make sure all of your required tubes are completely welded before adding any optional tubes. The main hoop rear brace that is not completely welded is a required tube and is more important then the horizontal brace that attaches to it. Design your welded joints with complete 360 degree welding in mind. Go to the FB BetaMotorsports page and look at how I did the recent M3 cage. I had to allow room between the cage elements to get that 360 degree weld and I had to hole saw the floor and drop the cage after tacking to get complete welds over the top. Again, if you had welded the required tube first then you could have positioned the optional horizontal brace at the mounting plate or far enough above to allow complete welding of its junction with the required tube.
  9. Wesley... Really? The house fall through?
  10. Nope. All you need is time and money. Why stop at double wishbone? Why not a rocker or a pull rod suspension?
  11. They don't require sectioning. You can put a spacer under the shock and run it in stock length strut tubes.
  12. From Mark Ortiz's Chassis Newsletter. Look for the highlighted part and then think about what aftermarket TC rod mounts do.
  13. That's a generic header, not one from Nissan Comp (Motorsports).
  14. Schroth makes a DOT legal four point harness that uses their ASM system to keep from submarining in a wreck. It also helps to attenuate the load on the torso from an impact reducing the chance of a basal fracture. Roll bar, good FIA certified seat, the Scroth harness, subframe connectors, replace all the fuel vent and feed lines to Aeroquip push on hose.
  15. That was just an example picture. 13" is not a hard and fast number and I actually don't know the proper length for an open megaphone on a L6 engine. Never built one.
  16. My 1971 street car with a L28. I couldn't go that fast in my old race car (back in autocross trim) because I was towing a tire trailer. That was done at about 80 mph.
  17. Your steering rack has most likely shifted to one side due to worn rack bushings.
  18. You're kidding right? I've run the grapevine in my 240Z at over 100mph with no problems at all, just watch for the cops.
  19. Maybe I'm weird... I drove on the street with a welded diff for a couple years. Granted, it was in SoCal but many times I would drive to or from an autocross in the rain in my welded diff 240Z towing a tire trailer and never once felt in any danger. Even at the "Deluge" (the 1997 San Diego National Tour) where a huge puddle on course ripped off my front spoiler I never felt the car was out of control during the competition or driving home in the dark, in the rain for two hours.
  20. Damn, I guess my years of road racing an ITS 240Z with a welded diff in my 240Z was actually drifting. Whoda thunk it!
  21. That's a normal wear pattern on a coil over sleeve when the upper and lower spring perches are fixed. The spring actually bends/warps a bit and rubs on the sleeve. Adding this kit for each spring will eliminate the problem but you will have to disassemble, clean, and re grease these bearings every couple months. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/QA1-Coil-Over-Thrust-Bearing-Kit,6001.html
  22. Don't do it - especially after posting it on the Internet.
  23. Way back in 2002 during the first OTC Bryan Lampe and I raced his ITS 240Z against Gary Sheehan's USTCC WRX. We lost. In 2003 we ran my Rusty Old Datsun against the same car. We won.
