JSM
Okay, I'm 40 and getting older so my music taste is from the late 70's and 80's in general. But I really like this song: http://new.music.yahoo.com/miley-cyrus/videos/view/party-in-the-u-s-a--218591175
MAG58
Never have been a fan of modern pop. Did get big into Radiohead though. That's about as modern as I go. Modest mouse is pretty decent as well.

cockerstar
Let God have mercy on your soul Jeff.... Couldn't have said it better myself! Just for those who don't know, in the current music scene, Miley Cyrus is known for being a godess to all 14 year old girls.
proxlamus©
Miley Cirus is a goddess to me. have you watched that video in HD in FULL SCREEN? I'm down haha Check out Kesha's Tic Toc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9xWw4jA2hg&feature=related BTW have you tried watching the videos in MUTE? its magical
zeeboost
If by modern, you're referring to modern mainstream, then no, I don't really care for too much of it. And it takes a lot of guts to post a Miley Cirus video here, but uh, I wouldn't be surprised if it earns you a new user-title I've really been digging this "modern" band lately. This isn't pop culture, but I would affiliate the 2nd link with modern music. The first is one of their awesome acousticals. In the end, though, it can't compare with the good stuff. I wish I was born earlier to live in those glory days: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntm1YfehK7U

260DET
There is some decent modern stuff around but most of it is not promoted like the 14 year old stuff is. Have a listen to these, see what you think. Bertie Blackman, give this one a chance to get wound up Then there is Sia Furler, two clips of her doing the same song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzjmx63TqiU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dkhwerFi44

JMortensen
This is about as recent as I get: If I'm going to pick a QOTSA song, it's gotta be Mexicola. There's even a guy here with Mexicola as his username. Of course, that's from their first album, so maybe not so recent. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEjFqIzFuIw Here's a pretty recent one from the Raconteurs, Carolina Drama: And something old that I've been listening to a lot lately: I have no help to give the OP with his Miley Cyrus issues, but I wish you a speedy recovery. There's plenty of good music still being made, and you would be a fool to think otherwise. Off the top of my head, some kinda similar bands are Muse, Franz Ferdinand, The Strokes... I'm not sure what kind of music you are into exactly but there is a lot out there. If I'm going to pick a QOTSA song, it's gotta be Mexicola. There's even a guy here with Mexicola as his username. Of course, that's from their first album, so maybe not so recent. I love QOTSA. I listened to everything I have by them yesterday, although I seem to be missing quite a bit somehow... Ever listen to Kyuss? Josh Homme's previous band. Very good, harder than QOTSA, sludgier stoner rock. Whitewater: Space Cadet:

I hope I can't get in trouble for saying that and her only being 17... but it's the truth. Those legs in that video, and the fact she gets out of a TA...
