  1. Thanks guys: I had already been to those pages and figured out that I could have one magnet reversed (sensor wiring too) but didn't get the 2nd trigger part. The other option is simply using 5 magnets with 60 degrees between each, and two with 120 degrees between them. This will enable me to use the wheel decoder and avoid the neccesity of the 2nd trigger, which I don't think MSII will have in the near future. Yes, I said MSII - I've been paying attention to the MS forums and fairly quickly there will be support for most of what I at least am looking for, which will make me feel better about using huge injectors. Thanks again.
  2. Please consider this as a request for enlightenment, and possibly a new avenue for those of us who don't wish to use EDIS as their means for ignition control, if only because of the trigger wheel needed. SDS does it all with flying magnets and a hall sensor without a distributor, so MSnS_E should be able to also. I have been poring through the MSefi forums and MSnS_E sites trying to figure out if it is at all possible to do wasted spark with MSnS_E with flying magnets on the dampner and hall sensor, using 3 coil paks and 3 ignitors. Since I am not electronically inclined, pardon my use of laymans/possibly incorrect terms and probable misunderstanding of some basic concepts. My first concern is that unlike a 36-1 or 60-2 wheel, which has its' own indexing, how to tell MS which set of cylinders to fire when. If this can in fact be done with only the three magnets (as SDS does), great and the question is - HOW? If there has to be an index signal of some sort, my thought was to mount another sensor that would provide a signal at the same time as the magnet for the #1 cylinder pair would and feed that to MS somehow. I havd no intention of giving up A/C or power steering on my '83ZXT, and really don't want to spend $500+ dollars on an aftermarket dampner/pulley set to allow the use of EDIS - or even the 36-1 or 60-2 wheels in order to go wasted spark. I havde searched through this forum and the MSEFI forum and haven't gotten very far, possibly due to mky aged brain. Any thoughts and illumination would be greatly appreciated.
  3. 73TPIZ: When I was taking welding classes, I started with O/A, then stick then MIG. When I got to MIG, we actually started with flux core, and the instructor actually brought out some tips that he had done what I recommended to do after all of us were having the same problem. I was merely passing on information I got from my instructor. He explained that the tip got so hot (with flux core) it expanded and the hole shrunk. Not meaning to denigrate your advice, but any time I can avoid contaminating a weld with something not designed for welding purposes, I'm all for it - wheather there is an issue or not - the less of anything not metal the better - maybe it will float out and maybe it won't. I certainly did not intend to offend as you have. If you're so insecure that you were offended by the way I said what I said, you must be a real piece of work.
  4. I bought a MM175, then ran a 220/240V circuit to power my air compressor in the basement and the welder in the garage. It was a no brainer for me - I was going to have to run a circuit for the compressor. I will say that the 175 handled the 1/4" and 3/16" tubing I made my rotisserie out of with no problems. I say go w/the 175 class machine and get a long extension cord.
  5. I'd say the BW - NIssan didn't think enough of their tranny to use it in the ZXT - who are we to doubt them? I WOULD get a good shifter for it tho - to prevent overshifting into third...
  6. 280 ZX's inthe states did not have electric seats - manual, including a plate that tilted to provide varying lumbar support.
  7. Anyone know the proper # of feet for each size? I don't mind buying extra - just don't want to be short... Thinking of silicone (black - not BLING!). TIA, Brad
  8. I would double pass that for sure. One tip I can give you is to keep a tip just for flux core and get a wire drill just slightly oversize and enlarge the tip opening. I'm talking the next drill size up from what slides through easily here. Much rather do that than the WD-40 bit...
  9. You mean to tell me that Datsun put overdrive automatics in 380ZX's Australia and not the USA? THis is absolutely the first I've heard about it. The ZX's in the USA didn't get overdrive automatics until the 300's came out.
  10. You have a 3 speed auto - no overdrive.
  11. Don't forget that the front damper is also responsible for dampening (gyroscopically) flex in the crankshaft, reducing loads on the front bearing. YOu could go lighter, but not nonexistent.
  12. Dude - my dad has this ultimate set of tools - we can fix this....
  13. Sorry for your loss. My dad was always on the road when I was young, but I was always taking things apart and fixing them. He's into woodworking, I'm into metalworking and machinery. We're both handy at around the house repairs though - that is one thing that we always did together, and I do for him now. My dad's 80 and I'm thankful for every day I get to spend with him.
  14. Some MT '75's had R180's also...
  15. I have lived as an adult in Charlotte, Gastonia and Hickory NC, Austin and El Paso TX, Albuquerque NM and Atlanta GA. Living in El Paso was great - close to mountains, High Desert climate - less humidity that Phoenix AZ and no State Income Tax. Albuquerque was more expensive to live in than El Paso, anmd the food wasn't as good. I live in Tlanta now, but grew up here. I have visited Houston in October, and there is no way I would even VISIT in the summer. I was a party animal when living in NC and don't remember much of it....But El PAso had it beat for standard of living for sure.
  16. I bought this one from my local HF store for $285 including tax. (on sale and 20% off coupon). 20" swing BIG motor.
  17. Dude - you're about a month and a half late with this topic....
  18. It's real easy for me to believe they weigh that much - my '94 Q45a weighs more than 200 lbs more than my '96 Lincoln Town Car. Without the active suspension, it would STILL weigh more. A lot of engineering stuffed into a small space.
  19. Why not use the stock seats, then use garbage bags to hold the spray in expandable foam to get them form fitted (spray the stuff in and before it dries sit in the seeat for an exact fit)? You can have a lot of excess and then shape/shave the excess foam off and contour the bolsters and edges.
  20. Count me in as a fan of the MM175 too - had it for 5 years now and loving it.
  21. Thanks Grumpy - I've been wondering what would be best for a TT Chevy and now I know...

  23. Sounds like a great excuse to use an electric water pump to me....
  24. If I am readin gthe MSII site correctly, it does handle knock detection. I believe there is a daughtercard available for the other functions. I'm thinking that the increased resolution of MSII and large injectors on the ZXT would be a good thing...
  25. I'm not sure a turbo needs theextras inMSnS_E, but I am looking at Megashift, which will be MSII only and eventually maybe UMS. This will be for the '75 TT SBC project. Debating on MSI or II for the '83ZXT.
