  1. Interesting, makes sense. I bow to your expertise, ya learn something everyday. But this is talking about electric fuel pumps. Can I assume the same thing would apply to a stock engine mounted mechanical pump?
  2. If its a carb engine with a mecanical pump you don't need the return line. My old carb engine had a return fitting on the fuel filter which was hooked to the return fuel line. I have no idea if it actually did anything useful.
  3. Cool. Ya know I was going to mention that but thought, there's no way he did that, LOL. As I remember someone else here did the exact same thing!!!
  4. This might be of some help. http://www.carcraft.com/howto/56398/index.html
  5. I found http://www.boltdepot.com/default.aspx a great place for stainless and grade 8 stuff. Shipping is tough so you need to order enough the offset the shipping. They are pretty quick with delivery.
  6. When running the passenger side stuff only I have had no problems. I just went out and put a straight edge on the pullies. Putting the straight edge from the tentioner to the alternator there is about 1/8" space to the front of the PS pulley. From the AC delete to the alternator there is about 1/16" to the PS pulley. But the belt sits on all the pullies fine and has never come off. Just completed an 1100 mile trip with some speeds over 100 with no problems.
  7. I put the 4L60E in my 280Z with some massaging on the passenger side to clear the cooler lines. I also had to get flexable dip stick from Lokar sine the stock one will not work. I also had to cut out the old tranny mounts. But from what I understand the 240Z tunnel is smaller than the 280Z so you may have more massaging to do.
  8. Yeah man it was good meeting you too. thanks!

  9. When you get that and the AC delete pulley get an AC Delco - 6K615 belt I listed above and you're good to go.
  10. I have done it with and without metal ready, never used marine clean. If the surface is free of grease it shouldn't be a problem. On new metal if I can I will try to use metal ready, it really cleans the crap off the metal and roughs is up a little. After you rinse it off make sure the surface is REALLY dry before painting. I usually hit it with a heat gun before painting. Any moisture will cause fish-eyes.
  11. I got the rack from Auto Warehouse on EBay, but I don't see anything from them up there now. I did some searching yesterday and found http://buy-steering.com/index.htm They have racks on their website but that doen't mean they actually have them. I'm going to Ocean Springs, MS Friday to meet Mario. Saturday were headed to LeBlanc LA for a car show.
  12. Thanks. I have someone taking apart a 240Z rack, should be the same as my 280Z, and will send me the spring. I'm also contacting the people I bought this "rebuilt rack" from to see what's up.
  13. Update: Well this is interesting. This is a pict of the steering rack out of the 280Z factory manual. Part #6 appears to be a spring. I did not see a spring when I took mine apart. This just might be my problem. I really could use an opinion here if anyone has knowledge of the 280Z rack.
  14. These racks hate me! I took the car out today for a cruise. I got about 100 yards up the street and the front end started to shake horribly. I've felt that before when I bought my new rack so I knew what it was. Sure enough when I jacked the car up I could move the driver's side wheel in and out and see the inner tierod moving into the rack. This time I tore it all apart (see pict). I was able to move the "locking nut" in enough to take care of the movement. This rack has been on the car for several thousand miles. My question is how is this happening? Did the people I bought these new racks leave something out that's suppose to lock everything in place? It looked like the "locking nut" was piened (spelling) but there was no evidence of piening (spelling) on the part it locks against. There is a washer sort of part behind the locking nut but that will simply slide along the threads. I am supposed to drive to Mississippi this weekend but am worried about this rack at this point. Any suggestions on how to prevent this from happening again would be appreciated.
  15. I painted my diff case and axels with POR-15 and have had no problems with it.
  16. Yep you need the PS or a tensioner or the belt won't line up right. I gutted my PS pump and thaty seemed to work fine. But then I found power steering delete pulley (BK-MB31K) from PSC Performance Steering Components They don't list it as a seperate item on the website but responded to Emails with the price. Its not cheap but is much lighter than the gutted pump. I had to re-tap the bottom hole in the Camaro accessory bracket to match the 3/8 bolt PSC provided.
  17. What fuel pump are you running? You need around 40 PSI for TPI injection.
  18. If you're running delete pullies on the AC and PS try AC Delco - 6K615. its 13/16" x 62 1/8". This is what I am running for the passenger side stuff (Alt, AC delete, PS delete and tensioner) Of course not all delete pulleis are created equal, but this will get you in the ballpark. BTW I treid using the stock LT1 belt but it was way too long.
  19. Or if you don't want to fabricate one you can get the one Bartman and I used. http://www.bowersrodshop.com/info_pulley.htm Its not cheap and you will have to adjust the shock tower a little. But it does come with a AC delete pulley and a belt. If you want to fabricate one you'll still need a AC delete pulley, I just happen to have an extra one I will sell cheap.
  20. That does look good. I tried Rustolium chrome paint with mixed results. I really think like any paint, your results will be dircetly related to the prep work.
  21. I bought a complete wrecked but drivable 94 Z28 for $1500. It was on Ebay but it was in SC so I went over and drove it home. Try http://atlanta.craigslist.org/search/pts?query=lt1&minAsk=min&maxAsk=max There are several engines listed in Georgia. Check the cars and truck section too there are a few Z28 listed. You can part out the car and make a lot of the money back. I actually ended up making money and kept the engine, tranny and complete wiring harness.
  22. Have you priced a R200 LSD and CV axels which require an expensive adapter lately? The available gear ratios for the Corvette rear end is an added plus. This seems like a bargain to me.
  23. It has been a while, good to see all is well in the desert. Nice vid, cool music. My brother is pushing me to come out to Tucson soon. If I do it would be cool to come up and see your shop.
