  1. Hmmm I wonder if auto/ 5-speed ecu's have different maps programmed in? Just a fleeting thought...
  2. Don't do it, the truck pistons won't handle it...the ringlands are too weak...
  3. Yep, the one on Ebay sold for $12,500 or so I think. It was in a yellow and black 75 280z. The owner of the car had a shop do it for him, so he didn't know anything regarding the install. 1sickZ, I may take you up on the offer. I'll atleast let you know when things start to happen. I may be pooling a lot of resources when things start to happen
  4. Your biggest increase in performance will be a boost in compression. If you plan on pulling the head and doing work there, you may wish to consider a set of flat top pistons or an 81-83 n/a short block (already has flat-tops) with your head. Then you won't have to spring for the .6mm gasket or shaving your head, and either a stock or a good ole felpro headgasket will yield 10:1 compression.
  5. Congrats Joel. I believe someone on the board was making mounts for it already, so that should help. 8)
  6. You may want to atleast check a couple of the bearings in the jy motor before you drop it in. It will give you an excuse to replace the oil pan gasket to avoid any annoying leaks too. It'll only cost you a gasket and maybe an extra hour or so...
  7. Sure does. The 720 pistons can't take it. Mine lasted only a few hundred miles before the ringlands were all cracked... I had lotsa blow by with smoke from both breathers...
  8. From looking at my engine, the mounts seem to be set bak a little farther than the L28, but I haven't made any measurements yet... Anyway, with a few of us working on the swap at the same time, we should get some good information exchanged
  9. I got to have a little run with one last year. I posted this story a while ago when it happened, but hey, it's been a while so...anyway, Beautiful car, Alpine white, big red calipers and a temporary tag (Brand spankin' new) after admiring the car for a short time, I pulled next to him, and gave him a thumbs up. The guy, (probably in late 50's, early 60's) I guess, thought he would show me what his car would do, so from a 55-60 mph roll downshifted and stepped into it. Just as he did, I downshifted and did the same. Went to ~ 110 or so, was 1/2 a car length ahead and let off. The turbo Porsche driver let off as well, but looked at me rather oddly as he pulled up next to me. I gave a short wave and hit my exit off the freeway. I was cheating though as I had a tank full of race gas and was running about 24psi. Still, one of my favorite sories
  10. Yea man, put'em on Ebay and buy yourself a quaife for what you get for them
  11. Thanks for posting the link. It made for good reading. The 2JZ I sourced was the one on Ebay, but after it did not sell, I contacted the seller and arranged a deal with him. It was exactly what I was looking for and set up for SDS as well. I am not too concerned about a laggy turbo. That can be overcome by running a smaller turbine housing, but really, how can a mid to high 10 second 3500 lb Supra be considered laggy ? Now take the same drivetrain and put it into a 2500-2700 lb car. I ain't skeered!! I will not be doing any of the install process until after the SEZS event regardless. I also need to source a mid sump pan as mine is front sump... but I understand these to be plentiful... Anyway, I'll be in touch as well... mike P.S. Don't worry Mike, I can't compete with Scottie. His 1/4 mile knowledge is beyond sheer horsepower....but hey, James beat him, so who knows??
  12. Hey Cyrus, I too have aquired a 2JZ-GTE drivetrain. It finally arrived this week from Minnesota after waiting 3.5 months...Grrr... Anyway, all is now good in who-ville. Here are the specifics on what I have and am doing... The bottom end was refreshed and has only 200 miles on it since rebuild. It was used in a Toyota pick-up drag truck. With a T-72 turbo at 28 psi, the truck dyno-ed 679 RWHP. I figure if I am going through the trouble of installing the drivetrain, I will not want to pull it apart right away. The head was not refreshed at the same time as the engine (found out afterdoing a leak down check ... Grrr again...), so I am refreshing the head, doing a little light porting, polishing, and adding a set of aftermarket cams (either 264's or 272's). I will be running the n/a 5-speed (until it breaks) and a 700 ft-lb sintered iron clutch (came with my drivetrain). The previous owner was running SDS, as will I (already installed in my car for the L28, so should just be plug-n-play for me). The drivetrain also included an unorthodox underdrive pulley (SDS magnets already installed), ported intake, dual feed -8 a/n fittings feeding 87 lb injectors and all accessories (alternator, starter, etc). It did not include turbo(s), but I wanted to go a little bigger anyway, probably a T-78. I am putting an L28 back into the car for the next SEZS event (because it took so long for the engine to arrive), but plan on beginning the swap after returning from Reynolds in March. If you get to the engine mounts before I do, lemme know how you decide to do them. If I get to them first, I will let you know. I hope to start a web page documenting the process in a couple of months.
  13. could be the fuel filter, but may be the fuel pressure regulator has gone south...
  14. Deepest sympathies Ross I hope it is found unharmed and in one piece, Mike

  16. "Sorry Dick, I don't think I can hold it much longer!!"
  17. I ran 550cc and had no probs. @ idle either...
  18. What is the Summit part #, I scanned the thread, but didn't see it... Thanks, Mike
  19. Oops, I lied...they were Mercedes heads afterall... My bad guys... Models of Mercedes these heads came off of... E320 300E 300SE S320 (years 92-95)
  20. Grrr, you beat me to it!! I have been spending a lot of time at a cylinder head/machine shop here and took an L28 metal head gasket with me. I compared it to a lot of 6 cylinder heads and the 6 cylinder Mercedes head was close, but the BMW DOHC head was even closer!! Anyway, good luck with your project and I'll be watching for updates
  21. $128.49 + shipping from http://www.nismoparts.com/catalog/?section=362 That's where I got mine 8)
  22. Thanks Rick, that's what I wanted to hear
