  1. I believe that the tool box does a lot more for rigidity than it is given credit in this tread. I also think that it add more rigidity per pound than you can get out of tube work. Just my feelings on the topic, and yes I have cut one out in the past.
  2. Its not a GM alternator is it? I one time forgot to install the field wire, drove to the gas station and the car would not start. Took me a little while to figure out what was missing.
  3. base on what little I can see, I would be hunting for a new shell. I have seen a few fairly clean shells go for practically nothing. Its not just the sheet metal damage, but the rust. You are money way ahead to get an already clean chassis. Just my 2 cents
  4. I would take a good look at the FAQ section. Happy reading.
  5. 88draerdan's ended up being squished on that side. No worries, I fabbed up a new one and repaired mine. If anyone does have the part hit up Graphitez, he was looking for one.
  6. Ohhhh nooo!!!! I am so sorry to hear about this incident. I personally hope you rebuild.... Or find a nice roller chassis.
  7. I have used electric, manual and then finally took the damn thing off. I really liked the manual because I could tweak it exactly and I knew it was actually all the way open. I was slightly concerted about cold mornings, but was very surprised how little the lack of choke effected warm up. I am in Northern California so cold mornings for me are in the mid 30's.
  8. Interesting. I am curious what is the min thickness stamped on those rotors? Is 17mm still within spec? Pics would be cool too.
  9. Yep, only the passenger side. That would be awesome. I will PM you a contact email and phone number.
  10. Like the tile says, I am looking for the front horn section of a 260/240z chassis where the hood hinge mounts. If you have an otherwise wrecked chassis, and can cut that potion off, let me know. -Mike
  11. Pick up a few of those welding blankets. Even the cheapo ones work fairly well.
  12. Love that wheel on the car. Its really coming along. Great work.
  13. Jon, What exactly are you worried about? You are worried the tubing will fail?
  14. That is pretty interesting. It looks like they re-topped the factory towers, and did so poorly. But notice how the factory metal is also tearing. Probably because they cut into it a little bit, like a tear here tab. Then when their welds failed, it put too much stress on the factory metal tearing it. The work done is also just plain ugly. I mean my fab work is not exactly beautiful but that looks no where near professional. I wish you the best of luck in getting that resolved.
  15. Matt, those fenders look amazing. Cant wait to see the rest. Keep up the good work.
  16. I wonder if those figures apply to safety glass, I would imagine it would be quite a bit weaker. Windshield adhesive is no joke. I have experimented with filling factor motor mounts with 3M windshield adhesive, it is amazing.
  17. Right.... and the aerospace 4130 parts that are mig welded together?
  18. I would be interested to see how you fit a battery into the took box. Is this a race car only or street car?
  19. That is killer work man. Really looks good.
  20. I would be happy to pull and dimensions you want from my chassis, its up on a rotisserie and easy to do.
  21. I could measure mine for you, but i have to tell you, measuring back to where the frame dies into the firewall is not going to be very accurate. Kind of an arbitrary point where sheet metal meets frame rail.
  22. Regarding platform to start with. I think most guys who have been there will agree. DO NOT RUSH. Find a really good car to start with. Every dollar more you spend up front will probably save you 10 later... Easy. Be very honest with yourself about what you can and can not do.
  23. Oh No! Sorry to hear about your wreck. I guess that is pat of the game.
