  1. I highly recommend you pick up a service manual of some sort and do some reading. Could save you a lot of time and damaged parts.
  2. I believe that is a Tesla and possibly... a lay-z-boy?
  3. Toolshed. I miss JohnC, this would have been long gone.
  4. How rigid is the material once installed? I imagine it it subject to a sizable force at speed.
  5. Do you mind sharing your specs? Diameter, width, offset? Thanks!
  6. JoeK, I have a couple of options for local shops. I will PM you. -Mike
  7. Any chance he can chuck up the rotors by the new inner pilot and true-up the OD? Seems like he wouldn't have to take too terribly much off. Maybe it is a non-issue though.
  8. Thanks. As much as I want to keep the weight as low as possible, there are some practical limitations for oil pan ground clearance, especially on a street car. I am going to adjust it up and to the right a little, then fab some mounts and move on! Tired of staring at it, debating ideal positioning.
  9. If you end up around Fort Mason (Marina) on Friday, go check out Off the grid! http://offthegrid.com/ Should you find yourself in Sonoma looking for a bite to eat, but a little burnt out on Sonoma, shoot over the the Fremont diner! Can be busy but it is damn good http://www.thefremontdiner.com/ I am about 40 miles north of SF, but if you need anything shoot me a PM. -Mike
  10. Thanks you for the input. Keeping future maintenance in mind is a good point, though I wont be able to do much with the exhaust in there. I will hang my diff in there and shoot a laser along the center line, probably should have done that in the first place.
  11. I am working on fabbing my own LS1/T56 mounts. I have the motor and transmission mocked-up in my chassis right now, I wanted to post a couple of images, and run it by the HybridZ brain trust. Please excuse the mess, the garage needs a good cleaning! The motor currently has an F-Body oil pan on it, I think I will swap out for a C6 pan to gain a little bit of ground clearance. My cross member has it's fair share of battle scars on it and having the oil pan significantly lower concerns me. The position is a bit arbitrary, here is how I arrived that this location: I leveled the car, centered up the motor as best I could, moved the motor until it was relatively close to the fire wall, low down, then I raised up the tail of the transmission until the top was close to the transmission tunnel to maximize ground clearance with the exhaust, then I adjusted the front of the motor up to be close to 3 degrees pinion angle (measured at the flat where the oil pan bolts up). This position looks to be a bit higher than Hawks, and a little bit further back than most. There is a string pulled at the center of the strut top holes for reference. Is there anything I am missing or not thinking through? All advice is welcome.
  12. First issue, your post is in the wrong forum, that is a Gen II motor. You may have better luck over there. Search is your friend, read everything.
  13. I had a SBC (vortec) that the valves got a little friendly with the pistons, left something similar but a little larger and on every piston. I used a scotch bright metal conditioning disc, lighting smoothed the rough edge and the proceeded to drive that short block for thousands of abusive miles, trouble free. I wouldn't sweat it. But if it makes you nervous, throw a piston in.
  14. For your LS platform specific questions, I would recommend cruising over to ls1tech.com and doing some reading. Tons of info on the LS based motors.
  15. Not just what you are putting it in, but what mounts you intend to use. Will it fit... Maybe? Depends on the mounts. You could certainly make it fit.
  16. Ohh no.... Damn. That is terrible. Though I did not know him personally, his knowledge and expertise have been very influential on me. I know it is a very small consolation to the family, but I hope that the knowledge he bestowed on this site can remain here to guide others. Thanks for everything JohnC. RIP. You will be missed.
  17. Just to be clear, the price for the first batch is $700? If that is true, put me in for one at that cost.
  18. Wow the oil pan is pretty low. My cross member skid plate has its share of scars and battle wounds, which really gives some concern for the oil pan. Is that an F-body oil pan? How is the clearance from the manifold to the firewall? Thank you for taking the time to document your process with photos. I am in the process of mocking up and fabricating my mounts and the reference is really valuable. -Mike
  19. Those are awesome! You may have to cut out the factory brackets and fab new ones. I would use them.
  20. What is the availability? I don't see a list like most group-buys.
  21. T56 is internally gated. The interior part is trim at that point. The Boy from OZ has some serious fab skills, no doubt. Good work.
  22. What is your current motor and transmission setup?

What year Miata did that HVAC system come out of? Also, how do you plan to access those fuses? Through the air bag panel?
  24. I am sure I have some, if the above poster doesn't get you hooked up. -Mike
