John Coffey & Beta Motorsports Comes Through! Pics
slownrusty replied to slownrusty's topic in Body Kits & Paint
John - Many thanks for those tips! Duly noted. On the http://www.hoodpins.com website it says they are having problems with their CNC machinist and they are hunting for a new CNC facility. I agree their product is beautiful. I agree Tony! Those Aerocatch units are neat as well. Yasin -
Looking great keep those pics coming! Yasin

Many thanks on the compliments on the Corolla, yes it was a fine machine. It took me 3years to build that dang car, but the end result speaks for itself. I had to sadly sell it as I wanted the 930 and I could not justify keeping it. My 930 is ultra clean and very low mileage and my eventual goal is 500whp, so yes that will require some bank! LOL.... I agree Mike, I am glad I ran. Little aesthetic things alone will easily add up to another $5K, thats before getting into the sad motor. This thing is a money pit and then some. These early 911 as they were pre-galvanize steel can be massive rust buckets, as this one is. Thanks for everyone's comments. Yasin

Guys - Here is my story!!!! I could not sleep last night...seriously I woke up at 4am this morning...eyes wide open! I went to the bank last night after leaving the office, withdrew $5K for my new purchase. The new purchase was to be a 1970 911E that had steel Turbo fenders and a fiberglass front fenders and rear Turbo tail. The car is owned by a co-worker of mine and he had it advertised on our intranet forum only. He has owned the car for a little over 20years and is selling the car to help pay for his kids college tuition. It has ONLY been started twice per year in the past 16years and you can see the last time it was registered was in 1990. On the 'phone he told me that the front floor pans were rotten due to leaking battery acid but the rest of thec ar checks out. I don't really need another project at this time (I need another project like I need a hole in my head) but for $5K I said what the heck! I took my floor jack with me and a few tools and headed over to his house this morning and BOY....was I sorely disappointed (understatement)....here is what I found: 1) Its amazing, because the car looke pretty good from 10feet...I was excited but sadly under the car is riddled with cancer, floors and all the suspension structural mounting points. It was so widespread I was scared to jack the car up in fear of putting a hole through the car. The car has been undercoated with some cheap black Bondo or epoxy to mask the rust and it even is all over the oil lines that runs from front to rear, making the oil line hardly distinguishable. I would like to say that I have worked on some terribly rusty cars and I am not scared by rust (think old Datsun Z and Toyotas from the East coast) and this right up there, if not worse...all around the gas tank is very religious as it was "holy" 2) The car smoked terribly and was "missing" but started up and revved somewhat OK. The owner said the smoke was due to bad valve seals and that he overfilled the car with oil when he did an oil change 5years ago! He did mention that the overfill was probably good for the seals though...? 3) Wipers did not work, one headlight was "jerry-rigged" with a wire running out of the housing to the other side (in series). Horn was an aftermarket air horn. 4) Targa top looked like it did not seal well and needs to be completely re-done. 5) Fuel injection completely removed and replaced with Strombergs and the engine is leaking quite a bit at the case, very oily under the motor. The owner was very cool and very honest. He is asking $5K firm and I had to sadly walk away, as I could see it as a point of throwing an easy $10K at it (if not more) and thats with me doing all thw work - the good money after bad syndrome. He told me that the car will be on ebay if he does not get a local buyer. The car wanted me to take it home too....it was calling my name. So what do you guy think...???? I am interested to hear your feedback. Here are zeee pics: Happy weekend and regards - Yasin

John Coffey & Beta Motorsports Comes Through! Pics

Guy - Goo observation. I am going to have to drill some holes in the FRP inlay and feed the bolts through it to mount to the stock hinges. Pretty easy, but will take a little time and precision. I am going to paint the hood hood white (same color as the car). Not sure Cody probaby...Summit Racing? I have never installed hood pins before, but after speaking with John, I am convinced this is the way to go. J - Thanks for the compliments! Regards - Yasin -
J - I think they look great! Yasin

I received my new Carbon Fiber Hood today from John for my ZX Turbo. It was made very quickly and I had John ship it to my office and I unpacked it at the warehouse at work and the the guys went absolutely crazy..wish I had a camera to capture the comments and the facial expressions! They have never seen such a beautiful (most of the guys I work with have long forgotten the Datsun Z) and they oggled at how light it was. John says it weighs 8lbs but my scale registers a hair over 7lbs. Whichever it is it certainly is incredible light wow...! As you can see the hood has a partial inner FRP frame so I can mount it to my OEM hinges but I will need to use pins with it. Thanks again John! Here are the pics, you can see my stock steel white hood in the background and also you can see my complete Turbo P90 head with all manifolds sitting on the small table. Paint and re-finish pics to follow later: This car is getting expensive...LOL! But I am geting excited. Yasin

Why would you put a smaller turbo than the Factory? Also the T3 and T2 have different flanges at the manifold. Yasin

Boy there are some sweeet FJ parts incl. quite a few complete engines on Yahoo Japan auctions this week. Yasin

Great story ! Anymore pics you can share? Yasin

really enjoyed that video..his engine build specs from his description is almost identical to mine scarry right down to the Haltech engine management. About half way through the video, he says something to the effect "a whole bunch of crap, it make you a little depressed when you add the list-up, you see the money floating away"....man a true to life statement! He seems like a really cool guy. Yasin
-
I would be happy to support your business if you made a L6 manifold for sure! Yasin
-
Mike - Is that one you just refinished to match OEM? Yasin
-
Stony - "Cheap" when used in the same sentence as "Performance" is usually followed by "BOOOM!" Yasin

That is beautifully restored and love the cleanliness of the engine bay. The first pic showing the car accident does not look all that bad surprisingly. With the head work and the Wolf EFI, what are you estimating the hp level? Really inspiring work and great to see another car saved! Yasin

Yup Austin nailed it....the air is going to flow into the IC and flow right out of the outlet without even going through the intercooler core. Another recommendation is to take the intercooler to a good aluminum welder, seal-up the outlet and weld a new outlet and hole saw a 3" hole (or what ever the neck size is) on the opposing end tank. You should have asked before pulling the trigger on it but good luck! Yasin

Turbo build... need specs and ideas for beefy motor
slownrusty replied to nscason's topic in Turbo / Supercharger
Have you done a "search". Every single one of your questions have been discussed and detailed very nicely over the years. This site has great archived info, my recommendations is to get a tall coffee or cold beer and sit down and do some searching, you will be pleasantly surprised. Good luck. Yasin -
Can you please divulge the lift you flowed at? Also out of curiosity what did the head flow on the exhaust? Looks fabulous. Yasin
