  1. I used to have a Maxima with the L28 and the head gasket was leaking. That's what we did. Unbolted and used the cherry picker. Saved a lot of work.
  2. If in fact you have a 1971 then you have the early 3 piece case gearbox. You will need to do some tunnel cutting to swap to a 5 speed. The later gearboxes are 2 piece. You will need to do some more research to see if this is the way you want to go. In my 72 I used the same driveshaft. I think yours may work as well.
  3. Add $ to that, resurfaced rocker arms.
  4. I believe the Atl Z site is correct. (Block) How sayeth the Lord?
  5. "Race Cams" I would like to get the grind information. I found a phone number but was no longer in service.
  6. Just wait until you see my NOS 240Z gas tank on EBay for $4,000 if you think that cover is high. If I decide to sell it that is.
  7. There is a VW Bug with a Olds Toronado engine up in Green Bay. I have seen it. Next time I am up there, I will have to get a photo.
  8. I never did care for the clearance of the + batt terminal to the fender. To eliminate this possibility, I replaced my battery with one that has the reverse post layout. Now the neg. term. is under the fender.
  9. Ha. I also have the exact same thing going on with the left rear. Everything looks good, so I will just have to disassemble like John says. (when it warms up enough that is.) I have those aluminum offset bushings on the inboard control arms. Need to look at those.
  10. Or you can just remove the backing plate completely.
  11. Time for another donation to Hybrid Z for all the helpful info. Just reading Tony's replys is worth the $$.
  12. Ok, that sounds like a better plan. I assume I should have them shorten the valves too by .030? I will put the p90 away for now in case I do pick up a flat top later on. Thanks
  13. Correct, but not going to change out pistons. Bottom end is in great shape. Has no leaks and does not burn any oil.
  14. I currently run the 75 N2, N2 combo that has the 8.3 C.R. I was reading about the heads but did not see this specifically. I do have a P90. If I shave that 80 thou. and shim, can I get another full point of C.R.? (9.3) I am thinking as well that Its about time to upgrade to a head with the steel seats for the non leaded fuel. I am running Mikunis as well. Thanks.
  15. Hanes manual? Well better than nothing I guess. But not much better.
  16. I did finally read what it takes to straighten a head as described in the 'How to Modify' book. Too much additional labor($)to stick into that head in my view. Pick up another head at this point as Tony suggested. Take this head to metal recycler and get some cash back for it. Cut your losses and move on. Good luck.
  17. Have you driven it or heard it run yet? Why wait? Usually you buy one that's out of the car and then its a leap of faith. Don't see a reason not to go for it. To say its not a show car is an understatement. Its a pig pen. That may be an indication on how its been taken care of. But I still would go ahead with it.
  18. Very informative. I never knew they had a way to 'straighten' a head first and then mill it true.
  19. I would also wonder if the shop removed the towers for some reason and reinstalled a couple not in their original position?
  20. Recently finished up a timing chain kit install along with alternator upgrade. Did some powdercoating for some of the items to spif things up.
  21. This is why I do not condone a 240Z as a daily driver. Too much risk that goes up with miles driven. They can almost never be repaired. It is harder to find another Z that does not need $$$ of work. Unless you are willing to pay. With that, Insurance never seems to cover all the cost you have into it. Its a lose lose. The cost of repair on these far exceed the value of the car in most cases. Mine is now just a weekend driver like and old car they are best retired as weekend drivers. The Z supply dries up more every year.
  22. Well it is not normal in my case. When we assembled it, it never made any noise. The person who did the work is now retired.
  23. I think JMortenson is on the right track. This is a clutch LSD purchased from Datsun Comp. Department. We are talking straight line driving. Nice and quiet in turns. May have to send it out to SanFran Differential Repair. Heard good reports on them. Thanks.
