  2. Slip a screwdriver through the cam gear into the threaded hole in the camshaft to lever the gear on. I wouldn't pull the wedge until I had a way to keep the chain tight.
  3. Did you wedge the chain tensioner to keep it from popping out?
  4. Not only does por 15 make a mess of future repairs, if you don't have perfect surface prep and adhesion, it can accelerate rust. This is because it is an impermeable urethane that will hold any water that gets between it and the steel. It will maintain its integrity with itself, effectively hiding the failure from view. Based on my research, I would use an epoxy primer or zinc phosphate /chromate as John suggests, followed with cavity wax (applied after welding).
  5. When POR15 works,it works great. When it fails, it fails catastrophically. Google it.
  6. Taillights, dome light, and defroster. Pretty sure the fuel pump splits off at the dogleg. Breakout the soldering iron and heatshrink.
  7. The high / low beam selector switches the ground path. Your problem is likely a corroded connector in the passenger footwell area of the wiring harness.
  8. I'm waiting for mine. On June 9th, Gabriel told me that they were 3-4 weeks out.
  9. Joel nailed it. WD40 followed by soap and water.
  10. I would but I'll be installing Koni adjustable inserts from the late 80s. I don't know if you can even get them anymore and I want to make sure they last as long as possible.
  11. I'm in the process of installing GC coilovers. These have a 2.5in ID spring. I'm looking for accordion boots to protect the strut shafts. Does anyone know of parts that work for this application? Thanks, Sam
  12. John, Interesting article. Full disclosure, while I do have some direct experience and have observed lean readings with misfires, I'm mostly just repeating what I've read on the Internet. (Lean with a misfire seems to be the consensus on the megasquirt forums.) One thing to note is that the article is discussing narrow band sensors which reference the atmosphere. WB sensors reference a electronically controlled ion pump.
  13. Misfires should show up as lean on a WB O2 meter. This is because the WB O2 sensor measures oxygen, not fuel. A misfire leaves extra O2 in the exhaust.
  14. As JM said, a propane torch and a wire brush will do it. Sam
  15. I have a post in this thread that shows how the optical CAS is wired. http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/116315-my-ms3ms3x-full-sequential-sparkfuel-settings/
  16. When I built my very similar engine, I used flat top JE pistons with valve reliefs sourced from Dave Rebello on his advise. I was originally looking to get combustion chamber matched pistons. FWIW. Sam
  17. Are you putting it in 1st before attempting to select reverse? This is good practice because you use the 1st gear synchros to stop the input shaft. Reverse has no synchros and will grind every time you quickly go straight from neutral to reverse if the clutch was engaged in neutral.
  18. Ok. I agree that there is a problem with either the ms2, the settings, or the install. Have you used the test mode in tunerstudio to verify that the injectors and coils are firing as expected?
  19. You could also try getting the pw up to over 2.5ms (with the ve table or reqfuel) on the big injectors with include AFR off and fixed timing. You might have to let some more air in as well which will raise the idle speed. It'll be pig rich, but you'll at least be able to see if it is more stable.
  20. Don't give up. Many many people are running MS2 - feature bloat and all. The fact that we are having trouble doesn't mean that there is something wrong with the product, just that there is something wrong our understanding of what it is doing.

If you're not losing sync, it is is not on the input side. Probably the coil. Try switching it and see of the miss follows. If it does, it is the coil (or coil wiring). If not, I *think* you can wire to one of the spare injector drivers (yes they are on the MS3X card inside the box) and change the software settings. I never have had to do this though...

Are you losing sync? If not I'd say that it is likely a hardware problem. Maybe a bad coil or driver?
  23. I thought that when you used the high impedance injectors that the AFR table was still being used. The way you had it configured it would have similar effect. I think it is fuel. Not spark.
  24. Which version PCB are you using for your MS2? For your MS1? Can you strap some resistors in line with the injectors and set it up without PWM control? I've read up on the settings and think this may be contributing to you problems. You may not be holding the injectors open appropriately. http://www.msextra.com/doc/ms2extra/MS2-Extra_Tuning_Manual.html#pwm http://www.msextra.com/doc/ms2extra/MS2-Extra_Conversion.htm#injchar the MS2 section is weak on detail, but the MS1 seems to spell it out. http://www.msextra.com/doc/ms1extra/MS_Extra_Tuning_Manual.htm#pwm I have no experience with low Z injectors - but it appears that these settings can definitely affect the running, especially with large injectors.
