  1. I too am running 16x8 with 0 offset front and rear. I have 225/50/16 up front with no issues and 245/45/16's out back. I need to roll the fenders to avoid rubbing on big dips. Otherwise no issues.
  2. Considering the cost of my time we are looking at at least 10hrs of welding/fabrication and another 10hrs of getting the wounds bandaged up from the splatter. So lets call it an even $100
  3. I was trying to save a little face by not showing my real first attempt... but yes that one isn't quite as nice as the one that I've got now...
  4. The bumpers are here for a little while still. I do have ambitions to go for some 240z bumpers down the road though for some weight savings. The Konigs were nice but these are a little more oldschool for the car and we wanted to keep it less 'modern' appearing the Konig's still are one of my favorite rims on these cars.
  5. Well I have a honda at home as my other car and I decided I would turbo it since it makes basically negative HP stock. This was my first time making a turbo manifold and my first time welding something this complicated. Turned out awesome I think It spools super fast!
  6. Well this past summer I was told there was going to be a calander made for a local car club so I had one of the local's shoot my car for it. In the end the calander fell through but I just got the pictures this weekend finally. Just in time for us to get -17*C (0*F) weather... Anyway here's to warm days and fun cars I'm not a huge fan of the first few due to the dumpster in the background but I love the ones with the train.
  7. There is something called a Cable-X box or something to that effect that you can get to translate the mechanical to the electrical signal. I think MNOEL (sorry i may have misspelt that) did it for his swap.... check it out.
  8. We were thinking of having a car port at the back instead of having the porch and having a rollup door at the back of the garage to be able to pull right through with a trailer, car etc. It was actually Amanda's idea believe it or not tonight when we were having dinner. Insulating (sound and thermal) is high on the priority list. I want spray foam insulation for thermal in the ceiling of the garage then covered with the quiet-rock drywall, I'd like to put quiet-rock and sound insulation on the 'home' side of the garage as well. I think that the furthest 'bay' will be the Z bay to keep it a little further from the house anyway but its a small price to pay to not hear me inside I'm sure. lol
  9. Many good ideas. The pool table will be in the basement without a doubt so I'm not worried about it fitting main level, the dining room and living room will be the home theatre area most likely as it stands as we don't use a formal dining room. I REALLY like the laundry chute idea, that will be an idea my wife will love. The water heater will be in the basement with all the HVAC equipement (thats my area of expertise so that will be easy to do) We are doing some things minimalistic on the build and upgrading down the road. I'm fairly handy and upgrading flooring/fixtures is easy down the road. We agree on the thought process of not paying for easy things for the life of the mortgage. Smart minds think alike. As for the driveway it will be flat, the picture shown was just an example of the house being built for someone else. The land is flat where we are looking at so far. I'll definately be looking to run phone/tv/internet cables to the garage as well as a few extra outlets while things are not completed. The same goes for my speaker wires for the Home Theatre as I really prefer the clean no wires on the floor/walls look. I'm almost starting to think that we are spoiling ourselves for once. As always thanks for the input guys, I'm sure we'll utilize some of it when the time comes to get it going! Jason
  10. Well my wife and I have been wanting to build a home for about the last six months. Since she works for a new home builder (and she is the assistant sales manager) she gets to know of the new lots and such before the public does. She has had out lot picked out for about as long as I can remember. The nice thing about the lot is that they have to build a spec home on it due to its unusual size (wide and shallow). So since she wanted it her boss is letting her (us?) design the house and if in the end we like it we can buy it, if not they just sell it to the public. The hard part is for us to agree on a design that meets her needs and mine (notice how I put her's first?! I'm learning). She wants the usual stuff, master suite with walkin closets and big ensuite bath, nice kitchen, 4bedrooms (I was like WTF?! As its just her and I (26 and 27) but she says we're having two kids and she wants a room for her parents to have if/when they visit... its all becoming clear to me now... lol Like the car guy that I am I want a big garage for the Z and for the daily cars to be inside for the winter along with somewhere for my pool table. I didn't think I was asking for a lot. For me the rest of the house can be whatever she wants as long as I have my pool table and somewhere for the Z and at least her car inside. I can deal with brushing my car off in the winter as she has dealt with brushing hers off for as long as we've had the Z because it gets our only garage space currently. Well she's been searching home designs for ever and I suggested one to her and as it turns out it will fit the lot she want (wide but relatively shallow) and it gets her what she wants and me my area too. Talk about good luck! Well here it is. She has already printed out these images and made alterations to the dining room so its the same width as the living room, taken out one bay window from the kitchen for a regular window, extended the island, no porch etc as well as some small changes upstairs. All while at work and getting paid as its technically for the company. Ha. So far we really like it and now its just a matter of finding out what the damage is to have it built to what Amanda wants and to know when the land officially gets released to her company.
  11. Turbo blanket would help a little too, but they aren't pretty
  12. My only concern (and i'm not an expert at all) would be the turbo heating your rad to about a jabillion degrees under load as that will be radiating a ton of heat. I like do really like that collector you made and the manifolds are very nice looking (the 3/4" extension made a HUGE difference). As for the mount, pull it off, wire wheel it and paint it or have it powdercoated and it'll look just fine
  13. I pay $188/yr for my Z. insured with a 19A policy at $22k replacement value.
  14. Sell it in the new year and it may go to my garage Bad time of the year to sell a car for sure
  15. The "who" question was answered already The "what" is pretty easy. Wait for him to make a decision. Just becuase you thought it up and say its a good idea doesn't mean he's going to drop everything that's on his plate (personal and work) to do your bidding. Relax, go search if your Z will do 200mph and then come back and see what his decision is.
  16. sticky goodness from the SBC Gen III and IV section http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=123533
  17. Waow cowboy, one step at a time. Get the car running and legal THEN think about power modifications.
  18. In case you missed some of the "to-do" list here it is. Listen to Jerry, this guy has had a Z car almost as long as you've been alive I'd bet
  19. I think people are going to be biased towards what they have. I have an LS1 and personally didn't even think about the LT1 motor when I was looking at a transplant. The other option was carb'd sbc. I'm fairly familiar with the GM motors since I worked on my last GM myself. I know how they work and what works well. The LS1 has got to be one of the best current motors that is out there for performance for the $ spent. The aftermarket is HUGE on these motors from cams, heads, EWP's etc etc. The motors themselves are fairly inexpensive even at this point. There are a few different ways that you can do the tuning for the PCM at home with a laptop and a cable so its 'easier' to tune even though they are computer controlled. The only 'reliability' issues that I've personally heard of is the pre-'00 rod bolts stretching if the motor is rev'd absurdly high (still not a 'common' failure based on my reading) as well as a weaker oil pump on those same motors. I'm running a '00 LS1 with a stock oil pump (42k on it) and I have tons of oil pressure, I've also spun my motor to 6800 at the track with no issues either. That said I have proper valvetrain modifications, upgraded to the LS2 timing chain (much stronger/better) as well as good oil in the car at all times for extra protection. To get an LSX to 400rwhp+ isn't that hard, many do it cam only even. To get north of 400rwhp on an LT1 is a lot more work and the drivability suffers greatly. I'm only making 363rwhp with a small cam (224/224 .567" lift) and an LS6 intake. There are a few members on here with north of 400rwhp with slightly larger cams and one I think has stock Z06 heads (243 castings). Those guys are running 7.1 in the 1/8th which is low 11's! Not bad for a cam/head change. My car idles like stock and pulls great milage (for a V8) on the highway with the 6spd. I guess I like what I have and I would recommend the LS1 for reliability, performance and their aftermarket. $.02 deposited
  20. No problem. It was in one of my posts that list a good portion of the swap parts needed for the LS1 into my car.
  21. Are you hooking this up directly to the stock Datsun "ducting" that goes to the defroster? I'm looking at this very unit simply for the defrosting abilities (my stock HVAC wouldn't blow on the windshield making for some hairy drives in the rain). If so, how is the output?
  22. Ah, right, I forgot on those turbo models that the wheels have to be removed before the seats will release.
  23. Looks very good Jerry. Those look very comfortable One question though, whats the yellow thing with no wheels?
