  1. well today the ontario Z car club went to Sparta for some T&T and bracket racing. I didn't even make it to the bracket racing I got a total of 4 runs in though on my new MT ET Street Radials. Therein lies the cause of my problem. I did get a new PB at 12.66 w/ 1.89 60' on basically cold DR's. I heated them up a tad for the next run and well, i didnt get a time slip. Pictures are worth more than words. Busted-ness comes to mind however. Time for an upgrade
  2. Thanks I'll take a look into this. Much appreciated. jason
  3. I can tell you that if low cost is what you are after then IMO an LSX isn't anywhere in your realm of possibilities. My LS1 was anything but 'cheap' or 'budget' in the end. Granted I did everything as well as I could, I'm sure you could save a few bucks but no where near $1500 or $2500 even.
  4. So I've had my '76 280Z LS1 swap for a few months now give or take and when we first got it up and running the new driveshaft yoke would hit the rear sway bar on any significant acceleration. So the easy thing to do was remove it, problem solved. The driveshaft is the custom aluminum one from John's Cars Inc in Texas and it bolted right in. Well my friend with an MR2 wants to do some lapping and I think I'd like to have a rear sway bar for that. I've searched a bit here and there and hadn't found anyone else running into this problem Good for you, bad for me. I was running a 7/8" MSA rear bar for the record. Can anyone post pics of their rear sway bar so I can see if mine was originally installed incorrectly from the last owner or if I have an anomoly on my hands. Any input is appreciated guys. Thanks
  5. that was pretty cool. it was nice to see the communication from the slower drivers to the one we were watching from. he would acknowledge them letting him by which was nice too. my friend with his MR2 club wants me to go lapping with him and his toyota's... it seems kind of daunting watching those kinds of video's and to think about trying it in the datsun....
  6. $200? why so cheap? Need a head? what happened to it? If the internals are good then you have a helluva deal IMO on your hands. the intake can be swapped for one of many that will fit for sure. you will also need the camaro oil pan if i remember correctly.
  7. Nice! I currently have a single garage which is 'nice' but we are planning the next house to have a double wide with a tandom to get us 3 indoor spots. I'll basically live in the garage if we can manage that Expoxy on the floor is AWESOME, if you can get it done do it. We had/did ours last spring and its fantastic. We ground thetop off to get a clean surface, epoxy primer, expoxy basecoat, paint flecks, clear expoxy top coat. Looks awesome and is in destructable. I've dropped jack stands and not hurt it!
  8. mine was mounted right by the tank at the back (pump) and the regulator was in the engine bay for easy access
  9. I used a holley red fuel pump (7psi iirc) and a pressure regulator for my L28 with dual carbs. never had a lick of problems. i have both for sale now that i have my ls1 in place. if you are interested let me know and we can work something out and get them shipped to you jason
  10. I've driven through 3 rain storms with the swap this summer already (on my way to 3 shows nevertheless) and washed the car NUMBEROUS times and have not had any issues at all. BRAAP is right these PCM's are basically indestructable. The one I had in my Grand Prix was basically ziptied behind a headlight totally exposed for 6 years without any issues at all. The PCM normally sits under the cowl on the Fbody's so I'm not too worried. I may make a cover for it as suggested by someone else but that will be more for looks than protection. Time will tell, when in doubt it can get relocated if need be.
  11. I guess when I throw my new intake on I'll try to flip the rail and see if I can get them on the "right" way as you say. In the mean time everyone thats seen them loves them, myself included. So although they are "wrong" I'm loving it nonetheless I've got to admit your post totally sucked the wind out of my sails when I first read it.
  12. For me I mainly did work to the passanger side cover. I had to trim for the TB bracket (small notch on intake side), the feed line off the regulator to the fuel rail. I also trimmed the middle part of the cover at the intake for the feed line to fit without binding on the cover and lastly was for the main harness at the front as it was bulging a bit (still is a little and I'll take care of that later ) BRAAP: I noticed the edit and I appreciate it. Thank you. datsun40146: Many people have filled in the corvette letters to do Firebird, Camaro etc so I'm sure that its something that I can do later on. That may be a winter project to smooth them out and have them painted body colour and have Datsun Airbrushed on or something. Maybe even just a vinyl decal or something on fresh paint. Time will tell. To be honest I really like the corvette on there as everyone finally knows what motor it is...lol
  13. bwahahaha funny man. Yes I know the pics suck, not sure why short of my skills i guess I'll get some more pics later on maybe. I'm pretty impressed with how they turned out myself. A little more trimming and they'll be done and fit a little flusher on the passanger side
  14. well today I started and finished a build in about 3 hours taking my time to make it as stock looking as possible. A while ago I had bought some fuel rail covers. Well they FINALLY got here yesterday and today I got on thd mod ban wagon and made them fit the Z. Took a lot of patience with my angle grinder and a cutting disk but they fit IMO basically perfect. I still want to do some trimming but I had to get the car out to a meet at Home Depot tonight with Tino. Here are the pics for you guys Before: After: Pics aren't that clear for some reason but you get the idea: Pimp. Thoughts?
  15. if you pegged the limiter 3 times that car will drop 4-5tenths like that *snaps fingers* Practice makes perminant. some sticky tires and you'll be even faster!
  16. I have 225/50/16 up front on 8" wide rims and 245/45/16 our back on the 8" rims. no issues and i'm lowered with the MSA sport springs.
  17. get the black ones then just paint the front grease cap and you are good to go. I've NEVER had anyone point it out to me and I have the ones with the silver lip and the rears have the silver caps. With those coming with the black caps it'd be perfect
  18. Hey guys. I'm interested to know what strut bars fit the front engine bay with the LS1/FAST intakes ? I'd like to get one but not sure which one(s) will fit with the motor swap. Any input out be greatly appreciated. Thanks jason
  19. Johns Cars Inc in texas makes them for the Z's. I got mine with my motor mounts, no issues with it so far.
  20. nice. i went under the big ball which I thought was easier, but that made it look very simple. nicely done
  21. My PCM is in the engine bay. Its on the passangerside just infront of the strut tower. See picture
  22. Ditto on mine. I have NO cooling issues at all with mine; even at idle in 30*C+ humidity. That was with only ONE of the two Fbody fans running
  23. if its not vats (which it does sound like) i'd check your TB idle screw and see if its too low. I know for the longest time my cold start/idle sucked, i increased the idle screw a 1/2 turn or so and it fires up and runs like a top. worth a shot since it takes all of 30seconds to do.
  24. That totally sucks. I can hear the frustration in your voice. I'm impressed with your restraint to use some colourful words...lol
