  1. That was done on Drag Radials at the track. Traction and power = breaking the weak link. I too will be doing the CV upgrade this winter, along with LSD and a few other items
  2. I did.it had to be heated up , bent, cut and welded to fit for my car. my mechanic said it was probably the biggest PITA of the entire swap process.
  3. My $.02 input for this thread comes from other forums I'm on. Much like how Scott has cut a small section and put a grill over it to allow the air to flow through the rollpan many high-hp civic's and other imports do the exact same thing as seen below, albeit much more extreme in some cases. I've seen some people report decent improvements in ET's with them due to not having the 'parachute' effect... apples and oranges to our cars I'm sure. Babysteps - I'd say try this first, and when it doubt, cut 'er all out and see what happens.
  4. Glad that nothing serious happened on the trip home. Get it sorted out and always remember more is better
  5. how did they fit us all behind the barcode?
  6. I figured I'd chime back in and say a few things. First of all I like this crowd of car people as most here are older than me (a good thing IMO) who can speak from experience or just wisdom passed down. There are a lot of good things posted here that I have taken to heart and will apply to the best of my abilities at my end. Second opinions had been mentioned above and I can say that I have exhuasted many avenues of thought on this in the past 16months or so. My list of Dr's looks like: Personal MD, two local Renal specialists, two local urologists, A Kidney Specialist in Toronto (considered best Kidney guy in eastern Canada), and a Geneticist. Lots of tests to get us to this point. So again thanks for the positive reinforcement and kind words. I'm sure it'll go well, I just needed to get my concerns out of my head. One day at a time is how I'm taking it now. J
  7. I was dyno'd at 338 RWHP, with a tune after the fix i'm now at 363RWHP 300zx TT CV half shaft upgrade this winter
  8. I hadn't posted the actual pics of the half shaft that i broke after it came off the car... Enjoy Its kinda mangled. Good times had by all
  9. I didn't relocate mine at all. We did put a metal shield over them to protect them however. Think of it this way. Would you rather be 4" further away from a fire or behind a wall?
  10. That is a decent sized cam for sure. I think the 22X cam durations to be 'mild' on these motors and sub .600" lift... .630" lift is a boat load. I'd love a larger image of that graph to look at. To me it looks like torque peaks very quick and dies off just as quick. I'll have to take a look at mine at home (not making quite as much power) and see if my graph looks like that also.
  11. Awesome. I'd love to see a Z in a mag around here. Way to represent!
  12. surplus store is where I got mine. $9.99 I'm Jose when I wear them though
  13. Not many on here know me personally, well a few Ont. Z guys do but proportinately its a small number. A little background on where this post is going. I'm a 26 yr old going on 40 it seems in my own way. Graduated with my BBA degree in 2004, married summer of '05, on our 2nd house both in decent careers already. It seems that my 'youth' has already come and gone even though last night at Thanksgiving dinner we were refered to as the youngins' (we got put at the 'kids' table in our own home, lol ) I found out last summer that I have a kidney problem. At first I was told that I had poly-cystic kidney disease (PCKD) that has targeted my right kidney only. The fact that it was unilaterally affecting me made it extremely rare/dangerous as they couldn't do anything without risk of the disease attacking my good left kidney. After a year of blood tests, urine test, MRI's, CT's they realized it wasn't PCKD but I had a deformation right below my right kidney which won't allow it to drain properly which has caused backpressure into the kidney which effectively destroyed it. I'm down to under 10% function in my right kidney now. They say its not repairable at this stage. The real kicker is that I've had the symptoms of kidney problems (low back and flank pain, high bloodpressure) for almost 10yrs now. Previously it was just attributed to me being an athlete and over exerting myself, never once did anyone consider an ultrasound or anything else for diagnosis. I'm now in the situation where they are going to remove my kidney on Dec 8th. For the last year all I've been after is an answer. A diagnosis. Mental relief from not knowing what has put me through hell for the last forever. I know now and for the last few months I was just happy to know what it is and that we have a plan of attack to resolve the issue. I have been happy to know they can remove the kidney and the pain will subside, I will not have to limit my life to always thinking "will this cause me to have an episode?" There is a 80% chance that my high blood pressure will come down and be 'normal' which is awesome as there is no reason for someone my age and my fitness level to have high BP. I however just realized however how serious this is. I'm normally not a worrier, I don't show fear, I don't let people see weakness (maybe thats the British in me). My wife and my mom have shown their concern during the tests and diagnosis for the year, during which time I have inadvertantly down played the seriousness of the situation. I however realize the that this is a major proceedure and there is albeit small, a chance that I don't wake up or that I do and something happens to my other kidney. I'll be honest it scares the ♥♥♥♥ out of me now. I don't want to talk to my wife about it becuase she worries enough as it is and my mom is the same way. I couldn't fathom them knowing that I worry about this as I am/have been the 'strong' one throughout this. Its like I'm going through a mid-life crisis at age 26 inside my head. It seems like I'm in a world of my own and I'm just a little lost it seems. I'm the primary income earner in my house and I'm taking a month off of work for this surgury and that puts another stress ontop of this for me. Just call me overwhelmed I guess. Thanks for listening, I'm hoping this helps me deal in some way. I think I needed to share with someone and I guess the anonymity of the internet lets me feel safe telling someone without fear of judgement or critism. Cheers J
  14. Thanks. Its an '00 with a 224/224 .567" on 114LSA comp cam, sanderson headers and an LS6 intake. Pretty mild by LS1 standards. I'm adding a FAST 90mm intake and TB combo this winter and will try to persuade my wife to let me get a set of heads if I can then we'll shoot for the 400+RWHP mark
  15. i thought a mid-12s car would be fast enough for me as my last car only went 14.0's i find myself wanting more power and more torque (the true 'feeling' of power IMO) I've also learned that making power is nothing if you can't put it down to the street without breaking parts (right Jerry? ) This has made me learn even more about the cars and has been a very enlightening process. I'm hoping that 11's next year will happen and that will be enough to satisfy my needs. I too like having a fast car that is 100% streetable and stock looking. That is probably the BEST part about this car. Close the hood and doors and it looks like i have a nicely painted datsun with a set of rims, nothing more. Sleeper till I get on the loud peddle.
  16. Now with video of 2nd pull Dyno video can be found here: http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f245/seubye/?action=view&current=P1000323.flv
  17. I was in the same boat as you, got appraised at 22k for my 280z. I pay $15/mnth myself. lol good times
  18. Well yesterday I took my car to the last dyno day of the year and strapped it in for two pulls. I originally was going to get my tuner to hook up the laptop and see if we could make some changes between runs but he got there late and I had golf with my father in law an hour later. No mods done since my last pull 338/32x just a little tuning by my guy after he replaced my half shaft. The car is still pretty rich up top as the exhuast pipe came off during the first run and she was pretty dark. Needless to say it was much better. First pull was 357/340 and he left off at 6200rpm or so. I was more than excited by that as I didn't think I'd get a whole lot as I wasn't sure what all Tino had done for the tune. He told me he did some work for tip in (part throttle) for around town fun. Second pull I got him to wind it to 6600-ish. 363/353! Another 6rwhp and 13trq! Huge gains IMO from a little tuning and we know there is more in it. My tuner got there as I got off the rollers and he was tickled pink that we gained that much. So I ran a 12.66 last time at the track, now I've got some more power to break more parts...lol Next year I want traction and 11's
  19. my best with those exact tires was at 19psi cold and cut a 1.89 at 3500rpm. I then tried dropping from 4k with warm tires and well it left like a bat out of hell then i broke my half shaft, lol. It was at least a 1.7X based on the old butt-dynometer.
  20. 33grams sounds like a lot to me. remember its not the weight while stationary but moreover the rotating mass. 33grams becomes a lot mo re when spinning at engine speeds.
  21. Nicest 2+2 I've ever seen. Very well done. Everything flows and works together.
  22. I just broke my office chair last week.. I'm soo copying that chair. Awesome, just plain old awesome!
  23. the 98-02 Fbody's are ALL cable driven, not DBW units. The vette's and GTO's are DBW
