  1. Vintage Eastwood. I am truly amazed at how well he managed to sum up all his characters in one movie. It's a must watch!
  2. Zomg teh ess one thirtees are everywhere!!! did this come out tonight or something?
  3. most likely going to wrap it with similar stuff to what the manifolds are done with. mainly because i'm strapped for cash and ceramic coatings are out of my league for the time being. You know it's a rule that all z31 owners must be broke, were broke at one point in time or are on their way to being broke. It's what we do
  4. only 1987-1989 turbo's have the LSD rear ends. you can tell if they have one by the finned cover on the differential.
  5. Thanks guys, I took night classes for both oxy/acetylene and GTAW, but I figured I would never need to take a GMAW course as I was planning to buy a tig, alas the job market said eff you and laid me off. Thanks for the tips, they're pretty similar to what most people said across the great interwebs. I got this far before I ran out of bends. (ok I only had 1 to begin with but I thought I could use some of my old exhaust, but it turned out to be more oval/octagonal than I had anticipated. clearance between pipe and steering shaft. going to have to cut it down a bit more to clear both the steering shaft and the transmission. the gaps are pretty tight i think for my first time ever doing exhaust work. tools to do this: angle grinder with zip discs and flapper wheel mig welder stump small vise file dremel. more to come when more pipe comes in!
  6. So I've got a nice lincoln mud gun that I borrowed from an ex-co-worker (yeah, I double dashed that) so I can start fabricating my downpipe on my Z31 project. I did a few test runs then decided it was time to start on the reducer -> flange piece. I think it turned out pretty well for my first time on the MIG; I had the gas down a tad too low though I think which caused some spatter. Pics are easier though! I ran a bead around the inside of it because my fitment wasn't as good as i had hoped it would have been, then hit it with a dremel tool for (4 hours!) to smooth it back out and remove the spatter. I then hit a brick wall as to what to do next. Hopefully I'll have progress to report before the guy wants his welder back or I run out of gas. Anyone with tips/tricks for making downpipes, it's much appreciated. Being a first timer for prettymuch everything in the entire build, I take all the help I can get.
  7. holy POKE!! that z32 rear subframe really is way wider than most other nissan stuff. i imagine that quad cam engine is pretty toight in there!
  8. tire circumference = distance traveled in straight line for one revolution, convert to feet, then convert to miles. divide (or multiply?) that by the gear ratio (final drive) and you'll have your answer.
  9. what's the battery voltage?
  10. the rear end looks really similar to a TVR for some reason...
  11. you will be fine using a reducer to go from your current exh diameter into your muffler. By the way, backpressure is, was, and always will be BAD. You do not want any backpressure in your exhaust system if at all possible. I don't really want to get into the details of it, but exhaust velocity is what you want, backpressure is just the negative byproduct.
  12. http://www.xenonz31.com/reference you'll find the factory service manual there, it has all the wiring diagrams you need. you can also run the ecu trouble codes, there is a procedure on xenon's site as well, that should give you some idea of what the problem is.
  13. This article was fantastic for me first-timing on a mud gun. It was very helpful for setup tips and got me laying decent beads right away. big +1 for anyone starting out on a mig, very helpful.
  14. Truth. At my work we stock everything from 1.75 to 6".. We do both on and off highway detroit diesel applications.
  15. Veeeery interesting! Thanks for the opinions guys, I'll definitely keep these in mind when looking for the next daily.. I'm moving to Victoria come January Drax, so the whole shipping deal won't be much of a problem Braap, those Bentley books are awesome. I've got one for my current daily (90 Jetta) and I'd be totally lost without it. They're not quite as good as the factory service manual I've got for the Z, but hey I can't complain for around $50.
  16. Needs MOAR LOW! coming from a watercooled dubber. But seriously, major respect to those who keep those Ghia's and others in such immaculate shape. The body work on those cars is incredible.
  17. Hey Drax, I'm curious as to what you think of the car now a week or so later? The GF has always been drawn to the e36 bimmer's but I have always said the maintinence/reliability was a big no-no. Am I totally off the mark on that one? I can't say I've ever seen a bmw in any of the wreckers that are local, but I guess I haven't been looking too hard. How are these as dailies (325's, m3's are way out of our price range)? I've always loved their styling but shyed away due to maintinence cost rumors. LSx conversion don't count Braap
  18. i think a number of people have encountered this problem and just removed the anti-sway bar completely without any adverse effects.
  19. vibrant has ss piping.. there are a bunch of places in vancouver that you can get stuff too that I know of. I'm unfamiliar with toronto area though. You can also get that stuff off of ebay, but then the quality isn't guaranteed.
  20. if you're running the car with a MAF setup and you want to vent to atmosphere, it's possible but it will kill your cat if you have one in there. a little unburnt fuel never hurt anyone
  21. very interesting swap.. on any other site i think you would get flamed into oblivion for this.. but seeing your previous work I'll take your word for your reasoning lol.
  22. it doesn't match any of the part numbers i can find in the fische, i'll see if i can look it up in the fast when i get home tonight.
  23. http://xenonz31.com/Wseriesmain.html ask and you shall receive!
  24. does your Z have 5x114.3 hubs? i imagine those wheels with rubber will be about 75lbs per corner. not cool. the reason why the good wheels are so expensive is because they're most likely forged, and much more lightweight/strong than your average cast/milled wheel.
  25. http://xenonz31.com/reference.html download one of the FSM's from the link above, it has all of the wiring diagrams you require. try looking in the efec section under the o2 sensor for the pins, if it's not there it should be in one of the component wiring diagrams.
