  1. Glad to hear the 411's are working out for ya! You can send me those clips of your car again and I will post them for ya How big are the files? Im pretty sure I still have a big chunk of storage on my site avaliable. I host them until I need the space! Guy
  2. Your going to want to set it up for DCV. The meter I have has 4 settings for DCV. 200mV, 2V, 20V, 200V, and 1K V. If you had the same settings as me I would put it on the 20V to start with and if it doesnt read low enough then I would put it on the 200mV scale. The thing to remember with these meters is to always start with a higher setting and work your way down. This way you will save fuses! Its more important when you are using the ohm meter and ampmeter fuctions though. Oh and if you are checking the voltage at your MAF, you will have to backprobe it. What really works nice is a set of custom made wires that have darning needles soldered on the ends. It really makes backprobing easy and you dont damage the connector wires trying to crame in those huge terminals that are on meter wires! Guy
  3. Kinda sounds like the problem I had with my OPTIMA battery. It sat over winter with out being used. Then this spring when I went to fire it up it wouldnt turn over the engine. I checked the battery and it was low on voltage so I trickle charged (this is the only way to charge an OPTIMA, just so you know). Put it back on the car, same thing. I took it back to get a new one and it wouldnt pass the load test. I ended up getting screwed big time by AUTO ZONE because "they couldnt find me in there records saying that I did buy the battery from them" (I'm still very PO'd about that one!!!!!) After I put in a new battery the problem was gone. Guy
  4. There are 2 things that would make the starter only "click" once.....#1 a bad starter, thats probably not the problem because you have a new starter.....and #2 a bad battery cable will do the same. Make sure the connection are tight and that there is no corrision on the terminals. If it was a dead battery it would more than likely click multiple times while trying to start it. Guy
  5. I totally agree with that statement. If you get a 240Z because you like the body you will just have(dont have to but I would recommend it if you like being able to open your doors! ) to add some strut bars, sub frame connectors and maybe a rollbar/cage. It really depends on how much power your going for. Incase you didnt know...... the 240,260, and 280Z's are the 1st generation Z's and the 280ZX is the 2nd generation. If you go with the 1st generation 300ZX(Z31) or the 300ZX(Z32) then you will have to do a lot more research as those swaps havent been done nearly as much as the 1st gen Z's. They can all be done its just a matter of what you like and want........and how much $$$$$$ you got! Guy Guy
  6. I really dont mean to shoot you down but a car with an engine swap is not "a piece of history". I think the reserve is set pretty fair. The Z32 is a very nice car but now with the addition of the LS1 its even better. $13,000 seems like a deal to me! Good luck!
  7. You DO have problems in the head! LOL My girlfriend is alway saying how she has A.D.D.(Attention Deficit(sp?) Disorder) because she can never sit still. I think you have it too, just when it comes to no being able to finish project cars! You need to finish "The HULK"! Oh and what the heck is ITB, Independent Throttle Bodies? Guy
  8. Incase you didnt know, I have been working out the bugs for my LT1 for about a year now. The biggest issue has been the fact that it ran really rough under a light load and at idle. A little background.... I bought my wiring harness and computer from "Darius"(yes the guy with SC LT1, 600HP+ Monster 240Z) and he bought it from Street and Performance. Once it was installed it seemed to run rough at idle and under a light load. It ran good under WOT though. My first issue was a burnt plug wire on my #7 cylinder. This happened because it was laying on the header. I thought those 2000* wire protector covers would prevent this from happening but I learned the hard way that it will not. They are not ment for that kind of heat consistenly. Next I found out that my IAC motor was not wired correctly for the 93' IAC motor. It was wired up for a 96' IAC(Darius had a 96' LT1 but was using speed density not MAF). So after I chase my tail on that one for like a month last year, checking for vaccum leaks, compression, adjusting the idle screw......l I finally decided to check the wiring. Once that was wired up correctly the idle smoothed out a lot and I could now idle at 800rpms like I wanted to! Then this year I installed a A/F ratio gauge and wired it up with a toggle switch so that I could switch from the left bank O2 to the right bank O2 when I wanted to. I only installed the gauge because I needed to take up a spot in the dash cluster to make it look uniform with the new fuel level gauge. However, I kept getting a stumble and sometimes the check engine light would come on every so often and then go back out? But what I noticed with the A/F ratio gauge was that my "right bank" would run lean a lot and my "left bank" would run rich a lot. My exhaust was also very dark(like it was running very rich. I also notice that my fuel milage was about 8mpg! So I pulled the codes out and I had a "right bank lean" and a left bank rich" code. I started think about that A/F ratio guage and I thought "hmmm is it possible that the O2 sensors are crossed?" There was no way that I could have swapped them from left to right with the lengths of wire but if they were wired wrong that might cause this. So I check the wiring to see if they were wired wrong and sure enough, they were wired backwards! As soon as I swapped them around, my mpg went up to close to 20mpg, the black smoke from the exhaust stopped, it runs great under all types of loads/rpm ranges, and my A/F ratio gauge showed stoicho all the time at cruising speeds and goes slightly rich at WOT. It would have taken for ever to find this problem if I hadnt of installed that A/F ratio gauge. I only installed it to take up space but it solved one big issue for me! Now that I think about how those O2's were wired up and how the black smoke under heavy loads would come out of the exhaust......look at Darius's videos....guess what he had them backwards when the harness was on his car. Every shot that shows him flooring it there is a lot of black smoke pouring out of the exhaust. I know he didnt mess it up but Street and Performance sure did! Im just glad I finally figured it out! I think my engine bugs are finally worked out. Guy
  9. One of my buddies saw you in Shawano last week. I told him you had a straight six and nitrous. He was pretty impressed with you car. Said it looked really nice! Oh and what about the pics! Guy
  10. Once my car is painted in the new paint(House of Kolor) it will be impossible to match/blend in or fix dings, chips, etc. If I would see someone ding it, key, or vanalize it there would deffinetly be some trouble. If I couldnt get them to pay for it I would find out where they live and smash their car up at night! If its one thing I can stand its incosiderate people!!! What kind of paint is it? House of Kolor? I have House of color paint for my car. Its has a silver metalic base, cobalt blue candy, and a clear coat. All of the paint, clear, hardener, and primer was about $900. Thats no labor! Lucky for me my brother is a painter! Guy
  11. I agree with Tim. It is not ideal but if it has been polished and there is no burs sticking up then you will probably be ok. I too would take it to a machine shop and get a professional opinion. How do you make a cam with smaller lift have more? Just curious. Guy
  12. My service writer at work is always finding pictures of crazy vehicles. One day he had a picture of a new Dodge Caravan that was all pimped out(22" chrome wheels, lower, red with silver racing strips, etc) up on his desktop on his computer. So I start ripping into him about having a picture of a minivan on his computer. Then he tells me that is a RWD HEMI(new HEMI) power minivan! I wish he would have had a pic of under the hood! I hate minivans too and I really dont care whats under the hood, I'm still NOT going to drive one!
  13. If you dont go with adapters you will be extremly limited with wheel choices. Centerline makes wheels that fit the Z's and ZX's but there aren't too many sytles of wheels. Whats wrong with adapters? Its not likeyour adding a huge amount of weight? Guy
  14. My first car was a 1986 Ford LTD with a 302. I drove that car for about 2 years with absolutly no problems other than it leaked oil pretty bad toward the end. I wasn't about to stick money into it though. I sold it to my best friend for $900 when I bought my truck. He beat the living snot out of that car for another 2.5 years! When I say he beat the snot out of it I mean he treated it like it was a cop car/rental/like he wasnt the owner. He went through 2 sets of tires a year because he would wear the outter edges off because of all the hard cornering and burn outs! He finally got sick of it and he sold it to a guy that wanted to use it for a stunt car! I thought for sure my buddy could kill it but nope! I dont know much about the V6's but I know the rest of the car held up really good considering the amount of abuse it got in such a short period of time. Oh and when my buddy had it, the rear shocks went out at pretty much the same time. Yeah when he would stop hard it would look like he had hydraulics! It was the funniest thing ever seeing the looks we got when we rolled up to a stop light with it bouncing up and down like a Mexican jumping bean! LOL Guy
  15. I understand exactly what you mean. I was supposed to have my car painted already but then I found out that my brother couldnt do it till later this summer/fall. Yeah I am disappointed but that just gives me more time to work out the bugs and make sure that everything is perfect. Just dont rush anything when it comes to body work. If you do a crappy job with prep it WILL show once its painted. Just take your time now and you will be much happier once its done. Guy
  16. Matt, are you sure you arent talking about "COUNTRY USA"? LOL That's what I get to go to this weekend I hate country music but all my friends like it so guess what.........I have to go! LOL Its not so bad this year though because I'm 21 so I'll just tip a few back and check out the chicks! I would much rather be going to Summerfest though! Guy
  17. <--------Eagerly awaiting pics! Guy
  18. I have seen that video(I actually have it on my computer). I think the engine was stock but they put on a 350HP shot of NOS. Yeah as soon as he hit the "little red button" ........boom engine totally destroyed! Big hole in the block and the guy actually pulled part of the connecting rod out of the block!
  19. I wouldnt use carb clean to clean a nice engine bay. If your paint is nice then dont use it. It will eat away at the clear coat and leave a white residue. Carb clean tends to dry stuff out incase you didnt notice. Spray some on some plastic and it will actually make the pastic "melt". A guy at work got some on his flash light battery and it melted it self to the flash light! I thought it was funny but he didnt! I would try some heavy duty soap and water first. Or get some good engine degreaser and soak it a few times. Guy
  20. What does every one do for painting/coating the underside of the car? I know some guys treat it like the rest of the car and prime and paint it. I dont think I want to do that but I would like to get it sealed off from moisture and have it look nice. It does have that rubberized coating on the bottom now but its showing signs of its age and its starting to peel off. My first question is how do I get that old undercoating off? My second question is what do you guys recommend for a new paint/coating? Guy
  21. Wow you made that pretty much from scratch? VERY NICE JOB!!!!! 8) Guy
  22. What kind of budget are you on? 350HP out of a SBC 350 is pretty easy but that all depends you are trying to build that with junkyard stuff or new stuff. Also how reliable do you want this engine to be? You can have 350HP pretty easy but how long do you want to have it? Is this a daily driver or a track car? Guy
