  1. I had a one wire SI on a farm tractor. They don't turn real high RPM but the pulley may have been setup to spin the alternator faster. I also have one on a 55 Ford and it appears to have a standard alternator pulley. Neither of these ever gave me any problems but I have also heard that they don't "turn on " at lower rpm's it just never gave me any trouble.
  2. I have seen the setup you are talking about in the summit catalog. I plan on using this with my engine. If you want to lockwire (safety wire) the bolts you can buy predrilled bolts from McMaster Carr.
  3. With the one wire conversion you only need to wire one wire to the battery. You will not be hooking to any of the wires on the external regulator.
  4. I'm game for meeting and picking up the stubs and mustache bar if you want just tell me when and where.
  5. What Pete says is correct. I made the mistake of taking Calc 3 before I really understood Calc 2. Though I passed calc 3 I never could get through Calc 4 and I dropped out to get a job. I am now trying to go back and finish my degree. I will be starting over with Calc 2 and try to go from there.
  6. I live in Newark but I am working on a V8 240Z. I do not know the owner and have not seen the car. I would be willing to check out the car for someone if they are interested in it.
  7. I have done it with a 403. What I did was use two rachet straps over the rafter. One to the front and one to the rear of the engine and then just crank the rachet straps to lift the engine. It takes some time and I had to stop once and put the motor on a small stack of tires to reset the straps. I did this with the small 1" straps that people use to strap things down in a pickup. I did this first to unload my truck and put the engine on a tire and then later to put the engine on a stand.
  8. Mike, I just thought I would throw this one out. My Dad asked me to sell his 2000 Convertible Vette last night. It is Blue with a white top and is loaded. It is a Auto though (personally I would get a six speed). He is looking to get 30K for his. It only has 20,000 miles on it. Also there is a Lingenfelter LS1 on Ebay (not a Vette just the engine)
  9. I agree. My parts car is in better shape and I wouldn't dream of restoring it. It will cost to much to repair that one. Look around and you can find a decent shell. I found one in Columbus that was restored but not running for $350 which is less than I paid for my running parts car.
  10. I have two blocks with that casting number. One from a 76 Chevy truck and the other I pulled from a 73 Corvette. I do not know that the Vette engine was original to the car though. Anyway I do know both of the ones I have are 350's with four bolt mains. I believe the 010 block is supposed to be made of better metal. Anyway you look at it it will be a large journal block though so a 283 crank will not bolt right in. To find out what this is for sure you need to measure the stroke. With the pan off you could measure how far the piston moves when you rotate the crank or get the casting number from the crank and look it up online.
  11. Thats correct although I have heard that sometimes the Camaro/Firebird got the four bolt block. If you are going to build up for really high horsepower I believ it is desireable to get a two bolt main block and have it drilled for splayed four bolt main caps.
  12. The Corvette engine isn't necessary. The only difference in the Vette engine was that it has four bolt mains. If you can't find a Vette engine you can usually fing one from a Camaro or Firebird on Ebay or the Fbody (Camaro/Firebird) sites. You can also get an iron headed LT1 out of a Caprice or Impala. The iron heads are reported to flow better than the aluminum ones but there is a weight penalty. Also be careful when getting an engine out of a Caprice or unknown doner because there is a smaller version of the LT1 that was found in some of the Caprices. I believe that the 94 and 95 engines are preferable because they are easier to reprogram and have the upgraded Optispark. Other years will still work though. I got a 96 Vette Lt1 that I pulled out of an 83 Camaro. This had already been converted over to a 94 Camaro computer. Check the Camaro sites for you engine they seem to be getting cheap these days.
  13. Look at fbody.com and cz28.com for dyno sheets. In the LT1 message boards they often show their dyno results.
  14. One of the ports is manifold vacuum and the other is timed vacuum for the distributor.
  15. It sounds like antifreeze to me. I doubt a gas additive would add up this quick. Check if you coolant is low and also look for bubbles in the radiator when the engine is running. Hopefully it is something simple like a gas additive but it is better to be safe than sorry.
  16. You need to be careful adding water to a radiator like that. Pouring water into something that is that hot can have very bad results (cracked block, cracked head, etc.) . Just playing devils advocate here I personally think you blew a head gasket . Just pull the head and check everything out really good.
  17. I agree with Jon. If you payed with credit card let the credit card company know. I once had a bad experience with a motorcycle shop and they would not make it right. I contacted MasterCard and they held his payment. The motorcycle shop ended up apoligizing to me and removed all billing and returned my deposit that I had payed in cash. The credit card companies have way more clout with the merchants then the consumer. If you didn't pay by credit card then I think small claims court is your only recourse. Good Luck.
  18. What stall speed are you going with. I am suprised that you need to change it, I would think that traction would be a major problem especially with the times you are running. What gear ratio do you have and is your R230 a VLSD. I have a 3.7 LSD R200 to go into mine.
  19. I believe Chevy used two different patters one 4-3/4 for Large Cars (i.e. Chevelle, Caprice, etc.) and 4-1/2 for smaller cars like the Nova. I hope this helps.
  20. You could use a paxton or vortec type supercharger as they mount to the front of the engine instead of on top like a roots type. You can use a kit to put a Vortec on a carb but Fuel Injection is better for supercharging in my opinion. It can be done it just takes money and fabrication.
  21. Good to hear your times. I was wondering what my car was going to run. I am putting a 96 LT1/700R4 into a 70 240Z and was hoping to break into the 12's. It looks like that won't be a problem. What have you done to your motor? What kind of gas mileage is it getting? Great time and nice looking install!!
  22. I am not sure that is a good idea. Remember the engine and transmission move around a bit. I think the clutch engagement would be sloppy and you would have a problem keeping the slave engaged to the clutch fork. It would be better to make a bracket to mount it with the bellhousing bolts. Maybe someone else can chime in with better directions of what would work as I have never done this.
  23. Some aftermarket rims use slots instead of holes for the studs. This is so that they can be a universal fit. These then require a mag wheel lugnut that fits into the slot and when they are all installed they will center up the rim. I am not sure what back spacing is available but I am sure there are universal fit wheels that would work. I am not personally in favor of these slotted wheels though as I have seen them with wear in the slots allowing the wheels to move around and cause a vibration. Just some thoughts.
