  1. If you don't have a metal brake the floor pans and frame rails are worth every penny in your build. Off the top of my head you can save quite a bit on the following from what's on your list without sacrificing quality, IMO: Sound Deadening - Search around and find out which brands are good and what are not. Lots of quality knock offs on eBay for a significant savings over name-brand. Interior vinyl - There are molded carpet kits that replace the vinyl if you don't mind ditching it. It's also pretty common to be able to find used sets in good shape. I went with a carpet kit that covers the trans tunnel, but leaves the vinyl at the rear wheels. Carpet Kit - search around for experience with eBay kits. Some of the vendors there seem to be pretty good. Center Console - Unless you're looking for NOS quality here it's pretty easy to find a good conditioned used one for about half of the price. I could see saving $300 if you kept the quality there and went with non name brand/NOS parts. Possibly more if you're able to replace the door hardware with used, and making your own sliders is easy money to save if you can weld. And you can obviously save on the gauges or seats, but then you're sacrificing on quality in my opinion. However, some of the no-name racing seats aren't all that bad, but the Forza II's are priced pretty well. Even if you do save a few hundred bucks, interiors are still expensive to do nicely!
  2. And what about commas? That whole scenario has to do with the comma! Help your Uncle Jack, off a horse. vs. Help your Uncle Jack off a horse. Also, edit: Dang you for beating me Mario!
  3. Please tell me that you're talking about a dedicated oven for powder coating that used to be a kitchen oven. Any oven used to cure powder in should never be used to prepare food in again!
  4. A quick google brought up this link that I found to be pretty interesting http://www.algeo.com/~joe/KIAT/kiat_3.htm
  5. You can get them locally http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/46032-nissan-quest-stud-question/page__p__390546#entry390546
  6. The trans will fit without problems.
  7. VERY good looking install! I absolutely love every little thing about it. It's scary how close it is to my dream build I'm really liking the "DATSUN GT-R" on the coil covers with the 432 badging. What color is your paint?
  8. Just browsed through their add really quickly and I'll probably pick up their laser thermometer for $24 for preheating parts for powder coating and their small battery charger for electrolytic rust removal for $30 balck-friday.net rocks! I've been using them for a few years, and they've always been good. Gary, Here's some specs on your compressor. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00916472000P?prdNo=1
  9. You could always see if the part numbers from Nissan are different between the years.
  10. Checked with a vacuum gauge off one of your vacuum ports.
  11. JSM was being facetious about the longer intercooler piping For an under $800 budget you already named your best bet for an ECU! Megasquirt has a steep learning curve, but once you're past that learning curve it's smooth sailing from there! You have to be able to look at WHY things need to be done when tuning it, and go from there. It necessitates you being intimate with the car. Another option would be to look into the z31 ecu upgrade.
  12. I'm Ryan, and I'm 20. I'm a junior Pacific Lutheran Univeristy in Washington as a chem major. If all goes according to plan I want to get my BS in chem and then go to law school to be a patent attorney. I was originally en route to be a chemical engineer, but I really wasn't enjoying the material, so I switched majors to the only other viable option and revisited my original idea of law. I really enjoy photography as a hobby outside of cars. I got into Zs when I was 16 and looking for a cheap car that was stick. I wanted something that I could take apart and put back together, since no one in my immediate family had any car knowledge. I was going to teach myself how to work on cars! I found a 79 s130 on craigslist that ran and drove her home with lots of rust and tabs that expired in 2004 for $255! I soon discovered hybridZ and the s30. I picked up three of them from the classifieds here and it's been love ever since! I guess that makes, "teach self how to work on cars" a success, considering that I'm now intimate with every nut and bolt on my 71!
  13. Complete destruction of a rod bearing? I haven't ever heard anything quite like it
  14. There's one in the FSM over on xenons30.com.
  15. For pics try searching specifically in the forum for member's builds. Read through this entire thread http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/49037-help-what-suspension-modifications-should-i-do/ and this one too http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/38589-strut-sectioning-faq/ Additionally, My personal recontamination on lowering springs is here: http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/88025-installing-tokico-280z-hp-springs-in-a-240z/ They're what I'm running on my car. Finally, give this thread a good read over. And then read it again. http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php?app=forums&module=extras&section=boardrules Everything I have shown you is in the stickies! Research, read, research, read, research, read, research, read, research, read, research, read, research, read, research, read, research, read, research, read, research, and read.
  16. IIRC, it should. Read through his thread on it and look at how the relocater is designed. I know of at least one member running a short shifter with his kit, but I don't recall the brand.
  17. If you're going to properly balance a set of rods you need to weigh the rod itself, the small end of the rod, and the big end of the rod. This requires the appropriate set-up (which really doesn't look like it's too hard to assemble) for weighing each end. Maybe Tony can chime in on target tolerances for weights, but +/- 0.5g on all measurements is what I planed for a friend's stroker build.
  18. I'm almost positive that this is the case. I see it online all of the time.
  19. I think it's pretty cool that there's a car from hybridZ in the music video for the song that currently sits at #1 on the top 100 charts right now. It's been viewed more than 14 million times on youtube... We'll see how far this one goes. Being a college student, it's the only way I can get people have any clue what kind of car I have!
