  1. Make sure you inspect the damper/pulley for cracks. I've had a few Z's with cracked dampers take out the front seal and spray oil everywhere.
  2. Along with what Tony said, alot of the good Motorcycle repair shops with experienced mechanics can shorten or make new cables for not alot of money.
  3. I installed a '92 maxima alternator in my ZX. I ground down the stock ZX alternator pulley spacer/bushing to get the proper depth for the pulley on the Maxima alternator. The main issue I had was with the ZX split pulley. I could not keep the nut tight enough and unfortunately the pulley would loosen after a while. I ended up welding the two pulley halves together, getting a larger nut, drilled the nut and shaft of the alternator and safetied it with .050 safety wire. Its been good for over two years now. There were no bracket mods required. It bolted right up to the stock ZX brackets. When I got the alternator out of the wrecked Maxima I also took a portion of the harness with the alternator plug. I didn't cut the ZX harness at all. Another thing to consider would be to run a larger wire from the alternator to the battery, Before I did that the main fusible link would get very hot. I just ran a 2 gauge jumper form the terminal on the alternator to the battery via the starter and left the ZX wiring as well. No more hot fusible links and I get 14.2 volts at 800 rpm fully loaded.
  4. 2.5" is about the most you can get with the stock turbo outlet flange in my opinion. I think most people go from 2.5 into a 3" pipe. I am using 2.5" mandrel tubing with the flange cut from a stock downpipe. If I made the hole any bigger, it would have gotten too thin on the mating surface side. It's pretty slim as is.
  5. Back in '89 I had an orange '77 Celica liftback. Put in a 22R, header, sidedrafts, headwork, etc. Test drove an all stock '73 240Z and there was no comparison even with the modded Celica. Have owned a Z of some sort since. Not even in the same league AFAIK.
  6. Crawl underneath the rear of the car. The fuel sender/supply assy sits on the top of the tank. If you look on the front of the tank you should see three lines coming from it. One line is the inlet to the pump. One is the return to the tank. The smaller line of the three is the vent that should have gone to the charcoal canister (this is on a US market car at least, so your car may be different). Follow that line towards the front of the car and see where it has been capped or blocked. Chances are the previous owner didn't cap it by the tank, but in the engine bay somewhere.
  7. I know they checked, but if you are still using the original R200 rear mount bushing and rear cross member bushings, you may be getting a lot of deflection under load changing the driveline angle enough to cause vibration. My car did the same thing with the stock N/A engine. I changed all the mounts and bushings with poly and new Nissan parts when I went turbo and the problem went away.
  8. It's been posted here many times, but when switching to the turbo clutch, you will need the correct throw-out bearing collar.
  9. Probably cheaper to buy a wrecked Z31 N/A to pillage parts ( engine, ECU, etc). I've seen them go for as little as $200 for the whole car.
  10. Fidanza flywheel is most likely dual pattern for 225 and 240mm. Mine is. I really like my ACT stage 1 clutch and PP. I had issues with the SPEC clutch and removed it.
  11. Make sure you get a 'VETTE' window sticker for across the top of the windshield.
  12. I have the same CXR one (with 2.5" inlet/outlet). It is a good fit for a Z (or ZX). Got it for $94 shipped a few years back.
  13. Yes, it is pretty easy but time consuming if you have all the pieces from the manual system. The hardest part is finding a manual system.
  14. I have those exact sizes on my S130. I actually measured and ordered those sizes and waited almost a year for the wheels to show up. My car still has original paint so rolling wasn't an option for me. They fit with no mods on stock suspension, although I run a small spacer on the front just to get the center cap to fit. On an S30, I think the 8.5 +4 would barely fit on four corners, but the 9.5 wouldn't without mods.
  15. I had to check and adjust my delta turbo cam probably a good 4-5 times in the first 1000 miles. Delta recommends checking the lash cold at the valve, not on the lobe like the stock Nissan cam. Mine is set at .005 int and .007 exh. I used to run the diesel oil, but have since switched to Valvoline VR1 10w 30. That made mine quieter as well. I have over 5000 miles on mine now, and I check the lash a few times a year and it is still spot on.
  16. Looks good. Good job getting rid of the bumper 'nubs' as well.
  17. Just got mine from RockAuto. Definitely doesn't turn in the front cover. The blades on mine overhang the rotor some. Rotor measures 75mm ( 2.95") across at the blade tips. Looks like mine could actually be a diesel pump.
  18. Just to clarify on the igniter.... The blue wire goes to the negative side of the coil along with the blue wire on the car side ( the tach signal) . The black wire with the white line is actually the positive wire or the ignition hot. The wire from the ECU ( yellow with white) triggers the igniter. So on the igniter plug there should only be the black with white stripe wire and the yellow with white stripe wire.
  19. I put the RSX-S seats in my ZX. I'm short ( 5'5") and I think they are still too high. Without mods to the seats or car I would choose another seat.
  20. Sorry, that was for the C8 not the G7 which is probably even more.
  21. I was pricing out those Panasport wheels a few years back, retail was $950 per wheel for 16x9.
  22. I've pulled engines from cars that have sat for 10 years and were in way worse shape then that. Installed them and have gone another 100K miles. Pull the valve cover and check the oil for contamination. It's surprising how tough tough these engines are. If its cheap enough go for it.
  23. I don't post much or voice an opinion, but this whole system just pisses me off. I can routinely bill 8 - 10 hrs or more of work in 5-6 hrs. If I go home early I'm 'stealing from the company.' Tony, you want to be my boss? lol
