  1. Well I suspect the EGR isnt working at the 15mph test. I hooked up a gauge to the hose right before the EGR valve, and at 1,500-1,700rpm I was getting no vacuum. Now when I reved the engine up to about 2,400-2,600rpm(RPM range of 25mph test) it started to read vacuum. The cat on the car is definitely newer but it could be the cause( maybe I could take the cat off my other 280zxt that just passed smog and use that) The technician didn't even look for my cat, so i doubt I would have the replacement fail problem you were talking about.
  2. On the way to the smog station I got on the freeway and did WOT. I really got on it around town. brought the car to the shop and it was idling for about 8minutes. And right before he tested it he was keeping the rev to about 3,000rpm for about 45 seconds to make sure it was warm.
  3. Bought my second 280zx turbo couple days ago. engine is running pretty good, engine runs smooth all the way up to 6,000rpm. Put newer plugs, wires, cap, new chts sensor and o2 sensor. Checked and fixed vacuum leaks. I thought it was going to pass and it didnt. I failed the 15mph test. here were my readings M1: 15mph RPM 1676 %CO2: 14.1 %o2:0.8 HC: MAX:138 MEAS:161 FAILED CO%: MAX:0.98 MEAS:0.67 NO: MAX:1136 MEAS:1447 FAILED FAILED 25MPH test %CO2: 14.7 %o2: 0.3 HC: MAX:77 MEAS:77 VERY CLOSE! CO%: MAX:0.78 MEAS:0.16 NO: MAX 996 MEAS:240 PASSED I suspect my failing HC has to do with the AFM. And My guess on the the failure for NOx is due to my egr system, either the valve has carbon buildup in it, or maybe my VCM wasn't giving it enough vacuum to open up. Really want to pass when I bring it in next time, you guys got any ideas or advice in what I should start looking at?
  4. What kind of power are you looking to get?
  5. Ya I like how simple they look and how simple it really is to do this. This is from a 280zx I owned for a little while, i bought the car a few years back to do my first turbo swap(that engine is long gone ). I actually sold the car back to the previous owner, he was so happy I called him back. he regretted selling it. But the ligths are just standard truck lights. they cost like $10 each, Im thinking about doing this on my 280zx. Heres another shot of the car:
  6. That doesn't sound right. Are you saying you took out those fuse wires and replaced them with 12G wire?
  7. lol well I tried, doesnt seem to be working.... Nvm, Got it, Thanks. Thanks.Fee's ended up being $230. Not to much. But I just try to look at it as I got a running car for 1,300. I would say I also I got a turbo swap out of it, but I already have three turbo engines laying in the garage .
  8. Just thought Id share my newest Z. I decided to finally go megasquirt my 280z, so I needed a DD since its not going to be running for a long time. I found this car in foster city when my brother went to go buy his motorcycle. It was in the same complex. I noticed the cars tags were out of date, So i figured the person who owned it must not be driving it, and might want to sell it . I left a note note and got a call back. Turned out the guy no longer lives in California and wants to sell the car, YAY. I paid 1,300 for it. Feel like I over payed but I dont care, Im happy with it. Car has 113,00 miles on it.All of the electronics work minus the cruise control, Runs and almost drives perfectly( small vacuum leak somewhere), passed smog no problem. Has nice interior, aftermarket stero, T-Tops...Im ready for summer. If I had known how comfortable these cars were compared to the s30 I would have owned one 2 years ago! The bad. Unfortunately the car has rust. Drivers side frame rail is rotted badly. Not sure if im going to fix it thought since this is just my DD. Im thinking I will in the future buy a 280zx turbo shell that someone else used for a turbo swap. Not thinking about it too much yet. I wanna focus on getting the 280z running again. I dont want to get financially invested in this car yet. Okay, I seriously suck at using photo bucket and posting images. How do I make it so when you click on the image it enlarges it and doesn't take you to a link instead?
  9. What it sounds like to me is the power transistor is bad. When they start to go bad they will stop working once they get hot. Then when it cools down the car will fire up, but expect the same thing to happen again until it just completely goes out.
  10. hello sir, yes they should fit. see here for some related info: http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/60419-halfshaft-length-and-r200-swap/ good luck with your build, and have a great day. Better?
  11. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/pts/2263435174.html My add
  12. Congrats lol. Nice to hear someone did some research first and figured out the problem by themselves.
  13. Hey guys, just bought a 280zx and the hose cracked. Pm me with your price shipped via priority mail to 94526. Or if you local and have one, even better. need one asap.
  14. Just lie and tell her your buying a bike with less power. Your welcome...I know, im kinda a genius.
  15. Its probably the same person filing the complaints(or maybe a couple). If I were you I would walk door to door "warning" all of your neighbors that there is a tattletale in the neighborhood making false accusations. If you live around "normal people" tehy should get a little pissed that they live around nosy people who cant mind their own business. And when you approach the person who has been reporting you to HOA, they will sweat and you will be able to tell it was them. If all goes to plan they will know you know. And your other neighbors should have new found respect for you. Okay maybe that was a tad extreme, but I would DEFINITELY do something like that. These rules were put into place for a reason, and they are not to be abused. I cant imagine a worse feeling then knowing the people that live around you would tell on you.
  16. Check you oil levels and oil pressure, If your engine is being starved of oil you will hear a clicking noise coming from the valve train.
  17. Ya, If a photo doesn't even come close to fitting on a 22 inch monitor, then its to big!
  18. I like how you in the pic of the video it shows an axe.
  19. I say get it. You will definitely be saving money. The risk...well that depends on you. What kind of driver are you. The Majority of accidents I see are from inexperienced rides(buddy crashed few says ago broke hang and leg. I crashed when I started and so did my brother) and joy riders(how my other brother crashed). My biggest concern is other drivers VS. my ability to ride. Think about the drivers in your area, some places are worse than others. I think in the end If you are experienced and your just using it as a commuter on back roads, the risk is minimal really. Not saying its super safe, but in the end when are you going to far saying its to unsafe(what is safe then)? comes down to your personality I guess. I think the whole stereotype of motorcycles being so dangerous is a bit overblown.
  20. Maybe they have always been diving like that you your car is just low/lower. I haven't really noticed a difference but I agree that people are always driving with their high beams on. I dont understand why. when Im a a road and I notice a person shut the highs off as were passing each other, I think to myself, why? So I try turning mine on in whichever car Im driving, and %95 of the time I feel like they are just doing it because the opportunity is there... or maybe they think there are giving their low's a break, or are trying to make them last longer..hmm
  21. this is what I was about to say and sounds like its more likely your problem. I have the same issue with my car when its hot outside. If I let it sit awhile its fine. If I try to start in right away, it runs rough for about 20-40 seconds.
  22. I did this on my 280z with a 280zx turbo engine. I actually just put an NA engine in my car to smog it. I have heard of some people not having a problem passing smog with the turbo engine saying the smog guy didnt say anything about it. But i just didnt bother. seemed like a waste of time to try and sneek it past them when I have another engine to throw in and pass for sure. And come 2012 1978 cars will only need to pass out the tailpipe anyways as long as you have your car insured under a classic car. But as for passing smog with the 300zx ecu, I think you shouldnt have a problem. The only noticeable part difference will be the MAF. And I bet if you get a used and dirt one from the JY, The smog tech wont even notice. I usally go to the pickandpull's also around my area. Well I actually just pulled my engine out but you could still come and check it out if you want. All the wiring is still there anyways.
  23. And perfect timing. Looks nice.
  24. Actually I was reading a little while ago that when they passes the new smog laws(in 2004 i think) that if your car is 35yrs or older and is insured under classic car insurance, then your car only has to pass out the tailpipe.
