  1. Mike, run multi strand alarm wire with an aluminum shield. Ground the shield to the MS connector body. I might be able to spend some time late one evening helping you out. Typically, I am available only late at night after the kid goes to bed. 9pm or later. This Friday, I am available from 1pm to about 4pm. If I get laid off this week (rumors) I will be available anytime! What firmware are you running?
  2. Very Nice. The shaved rear will give you more "Wheelie Clearance".
  3. We spent this afternoon mounting the 240Z front bumper on the recently repainted '77 280Z. The car is coming along nicely. Mike has done an awesome job. The car hasn't seen the road in about five years and the engine is really sounding pissed off. It seems to be screaming at Mike, "RELEASE ME". He needs some more trim work, interior panels and carpets, He also has a set of silver Sportmax 002's to put on it. Here are some pics I took today when I was helping with the bumper. Also another video of the "race build" L28 telling it's story. VIDEO: My camera microphone stinks! Makes the engine sound crappy. It doesn't! -Dave
  4. ...easlily 300hp++ with stock L28ET bottom and top ends. Concentrate on exhaust, intercooling, engine management systems, and be done with it. Oh....you will also need brakes.
  5. Thanks Matt, after about a week of Closed Loop driving with AMC on, the VE map has changed slightly, and I was able to create an AFR map that cruises in the 14.8 range and smoothly transitions to richer mixtures on the map under load. There are no more hiccups, or burps. It is running great. It feels better than the factory tune on my WRX. I have been getting between 20 and 21mpg around town. Not even driving conservatively. I think I'm going to post my EGO control and AMC settings soon. They seem to be working. Interestingly, the VE in the 2300rpm range are very high relative to surrounding points. It must be a resonance point in the cam exhaust and intake manifold, designed in by Nissan for efficiency in the cruise range.
  6. LOL. VE is a reasonable facimile of PW. But you are right, it's just a VE that is used to calculate PW based on other settings that may or may not be accurate. Ultimately, it's the WBO2 that tells you how correct it all is. That's why I concentrate mostly on the AFR table and then spend a lot of time making sure the AFR target matches the actual AFR.
  7. [checks date: nope not april 1st] He had to cartwheel to get that high. Probably dug the nose into the embankment and cartwheeled it into the air.
  8. I believe OBX warranties these units in racing use also. However, I can't imagine trying to get in touch with them. I already emailed them once and got no reply. The unit is working very well in my car so far.
  9. Speaking of fast... Limerock Park, entering the brake zone for turn one. Paul Edwards/Kelly Collins in the number 64/iRise/TRG/Pontiac GTO.R The team that kicked a$$ in 2006. They have since moved on to Porsches but those GTO-R's were downright evil that season. 70mm-200mm Tamron, 20D, hand held. I once heard, the difference between a pro and amateur photographer is that the amateur takes 100 photos and shows you 100. The pro takes 1000 and shows you 1.
  10. Let me ask this question. Last time I loaded the msq and disconnected the laptop, the AMC and O2 control were enabled, and autotune was enabled. With the laptop disconnected, is MSII auto tuning (VE map tweaking) or is it just O2 compensating (closed loop) based on the AFR map(without actually flashing the VE table)? I am a bit confused as to how and what happens when the laptop is disconnected.
  11. True, I was wondering what MS would try do do if it wasn't near a vertex and it adjusted incorrectly. What I did was keep the vertex tolerances pretty tight so that it wouldn't tune in the "black holes". This certainly decreases the speed that it will autotune, so it will take longer. MS will interpolate linearly between the vertices which should be pretty close...or at least close enough for a hobby car.
  12. You can limit autotune or closed loop mode, by Kpa limit, so it only tweaks the areas you specify.
  13. My wife's image of a "finished basement" and Tommy's version, differ slightly. I like Tommy's version.
  14. ROFL. Someone has been paying attention.
  15. Wow you shot the moon with a 200mm lens? That is amazing detail for a 200mm. Here is a moon shot I did at 400mm with the Sigma 70-400 Stabilized on a Canon 20D and it's not that sharp. What's the trick?
  16. My brother sent me this article he got off of his iphone. It's from the New York Times. I bought my Z in NYC, and it looked EXACTLY like that when I picked it up in 1989 for $3500 with 69K miles. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/05/automobiles/collectibles/05EGO.html?partner=rss&emc=rss
  17. Try using a different battery or jumper cables if the battery connection is clean and tight.
  18. I set the RPM (>1200) and Kpa(<180) limits in Megatune. I'm using MS11 v2.687.
  19. Great explanation. I have run many, many datalog and VE analyzer cycles against my AFR table with manual massaging, and the car runs great all the way up to 6000rpms and 15psi boost. Yes, I have gone through two head gaskets but hey, it's a learning curve Now I know the limits. Just when I get it running great, I like to start going for economy by taking the AFR's in the daily-drive range leaner. Making small changes to the AFR table and datalogging. I just figure since MSII has the autotune, and/or closed loop capability, I would utilize it; mostly for fun and educational purposes. Thanks for explaining the "pre-determined amount of samples". I didn't realize that those samples had to be from the same vertex before the change gets written. So I can raise the "sample required" number to get a better average read of a vertex. Incidentally, my map feels really close in most of the range. One day I will get on a load hold dyno with Z-YA up in NH. Last tank of mixed driving I got about 21mpg and I can still scare most people out of the passenger seat with monster acceleration in the 12.3AFR's . Gotta love it!
  20. Probably millions of dollars in legal fees and marketing, not design.
  21. Z32 Trans Time! Thanks for the video and nice panning!
  22. OK I went back to hit the books and read up the Megamanual. I went out for a drive and got the Autotune working. I still need to learn more about it, but it already made a few mild changes to my VE table and it feels better already. Placebo? Maybe. I will summarize the process when I learn it inside and out.
