Stony you might try hitting up the driftutahclassifieds on facebook, occasionally there are some good deals on 2JZ stuff and might be some great resources local to you for other parts. That group is pretty open to letting anyone join as long as you're civil and don't discuss drifting on public roads

+1 to what others have already said, also enroll in a local career college and learn how to do basic auto, welding, and any other related trades that apply to the parts of a car build/restoration that you after interested in (composites, interior, machining, etc...)

Couldn't you provide a sample profile in the form of a k20 cam set from a junk head to simplify that part of the senario and then maybe some cam card specs of the performance grind you are thinking would work best? -

It's an educational vampire though, I've been trying to get in local applied technology college machining classes and toying with the idea of going back to school for a degree in mechanical engineering. Everytime I read through stuff like this it pushes me a little closer -

Just *wasted* the better part of the day at work catching up on this entire thread. WOW, really inspiring and cool stuff going on Derek. Very cool, can't wait to see the final outcome. -

Jboogsthethug's 1971 240z build

Looking good man, thanks for the show info. I got mine with no engine, just parts (junk head, smog pump, etc...) and supposedly a recently rebuilt 4 speed. The interior isn't to bad, cracked dash and usual stuff but the rust doesn't appear to bad at the moment. I'll find out more hopefully this winter when it's living in the garage and I have more time to work on it. I threw a build thread up but I should probably have the admin's move it over to the member's project section. http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/121186-midnight-madness-560z/page-2; might change directions initially and try to get everything put together in "stock" form but use a late 2006+ fx45 intake manifold with the dual intake tract, we'll see. Good luck with the painting and everything!- 168 replies

I was thinking SF area but not sure? Thought the green paint with flares would help to identify it but I've noticed in the past couple days there are a few different flat green or grey cars close to that color. Pretty sweet pull on that Camaro though!

Definitely willing to make the "long" drive to Logan sometime when you are around! -
Drain the current oil, fill cylinders, crankcase and head (don't forget timing chain area) with ATF or 10w, let sit for a day or so then work back and forth as JohnC suggested. Just make sure you don't forget to drain it back to the appropriate level before turning things over or you might not be able to turn it at all. ATF works great for breaking things up and cleaning out parts if you soak them for a little while. Once it is turning freely drain it completely, leave the drain plug out, wash/flush it down from the top with some clean inexpensive engine oil to flush things, then fill it with the correct oil & filter, and enjoy! It sounds like a lot of oil but if it has been sitting for awhile Dat73z is right on the money that bearings and things will be dry and stuck, you don't want to cause anymore damage from friction than absolutely necessary to get things free'd up. *and just noticed the couple month old time stamps on this

Kinda looks like the original butterscotch color that is on my '71. I'll pull the paint code number in the morning and post it. Only difference is mine has a white stripe with 240z on the bottom, not black.

Zetsa- I'm in Mendon working on a '71 240z as time and funds allow, would love to check out your fuel tank setup sometime when you are down this way. As for your LS price options, you'd be surprised what they go for on the KSL classifieds, I saw a 5.3 with computer and harness for only $750 a couple of weeks ago. Always awesome to see another local Z owner! Good luck with your car and teaching. -

Couple of pictures of what I am thinking about, this one is listed for a Mini Cooper rear cup holder trim from ECS tuning as a Drink Ring Holder They appear to sell the inserts seperate for their Mini Cooper cup holder trim or as a kit with the trim. I'm sure you could print up something similar that would fit your center console and make it look pretty trick with an accent color or even wrap over it with a layer of carbon, if you google mini cup holder trim or rubber there are a few different designs of the rubber insert that I saw.
-
I'll try to sketch something up in the next day or so. Basically thinking you could do a ring with a tension tab to lock everything down vertical from the top of the center console and sandwich your rubber flap in-between the ring and the console, paint it what ever color you want and it would look like an accent piece but actually serve a purpose as well.
