Sweet, I'll call them tomorrow and see what they say.

I haven't checked JE yet, Racetec was about the same as Wiseco, CP was $1650. Car is currently it side under a tarp, but the engine is in the garage. Did some research and cylinder liners are only 2.6mm thick, so I'm going to try to stay standard 98mm. Very tempted to pick up an m122 as they are around $300 now that TVS are becoming more available. There was a stage 2 ported unit on KSL last week for $250.... Whenever you want to come by just let me know, I don't work Fridays and am usually home every night after about 5

Manual transmission options
1969honda replied to skibumspence's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
how about a CD009 from the 06+ Nissan 350/370z? IIRC Collins adapters has a kit to put it on an LS block. Might also look into a z31/32 5 speed box, they seem to hold up alright behind the turbo'd vh45s and several other swaps in the 300+ range. ++++ I think a new cd009 from courtesy nissan parts is something like $1700, just make sure to get the 06+ transmission if you go used as it has better synchros. -
So I've e-mailed Nick at 5523 Motorsports a few times discussing my options on pistons and rods over the past month or so, also spent time double checking my crank journal diameters for peace of mind. The rod journals are perfect at 2.0999-2.1000 on every journal, the mains appear to be 2.5165 which seems off, need to get a more accurate micrometer/caliper to check these as Nissan is spec'd at .001mm or .0001 in and my current tools only go down to .01mm or .0005in. On a good note though I spent a considerable amount of time measuring one bank of the engine (RH side, even cylinders) as I couldn't find my paper with previous measurements and along the depth of the bore my biggest variance is .03mm on two of the cylinders, one of which is the #4 hole that had the spun bearing, no surprises there. As far as out of round my biggest difference has been .02mm for 98.02 to 98.04 so I think at this point it is getting pretty safe to say that somem standard bore forged pistons should work nicely. Coincidentally ImportPerformanceParts.net is showing and overstock sale on Wiseco VK56DE standard bore 10:1 pistons right now.... Just have to decide if having a custom piston made is worth the cost or pay for some BCrower forged rods at about the same price as what pistons to fit off the shelf Chevy LS rod lengths will cost. I'm either about $750 for the wiseco pistons and another 850 for forged BC rods, or I've had a quote for about $800 for custom pistons to suit the CH of using a longer LS off the shelf rod at $400-600 a set depending on rod bolts and length. Leaning more towards the custom pistons and a Molnar Technologies 6.125 or 6.200 rod for a little higher rod to stroke ratio at the moment. Guess the wallet and time will only tell. /

Diffs are actually pretty easy to find for an 8.8 IRS ford. The Thunderbird Super Coupes, 02+ explorer/expedition have them, Lincoln Mark VIIIs, Mustang Cobras, etc... all have them. If you watch you can find them with a factory limited slip or pic up an LSD relatively cheap compared to the Quaife/Phantom/OBX/Cusco variety available for the R180/200/230 nissan units. A couple good resources for looking for a used diff are http://car-part.com/ and http://www.lkqcorp.com/en-us/

That's awesome, glad family came thru and helped you out.

Pretty sure depending on the year Q45s are a short nose R230, you might also look into the Armada/QX56/Titan platform for an R230 as well. Another really good option would be the Ford 8.8 IRS from a Mustang/Explorer/Expedition/Lincoln Mark VIII, Thunderbird Super Coupe, etc... they come in a variety of gear ratios and LSD options as well as cheap aftermarket gearing and LSD kits. Just food for thought, also if looking at an R200 don't forget the S13/14s almost all come with an open R200 short nose and the drift kids sell and trade them like skittles.

Not trying to be a jerk, but search the brakes/wheels/suspensioin and chassis forum. I literally pulled up 51 results with term "subaru rack" and I'm sure there a more. This has been done and researched by a lot of folks on here. http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php?app=core&module=search&do=search&fromMainBar=1

Nah, just a couple different letters in the part number.

Everyone has to learn sometime, just do as NewZed stated and take your time, biggest novice mistake is to rush things. -
Help locating TDC on head, mid head gasket job

Install the gears, usually your timing marks will correspond with the gear to ensure the camshaft rotation is in the right spot with the crankshaft rotation. You might be 180* out on your timing if the marks are not lining up. Here's a link that should help show and explain things for you: http://www.xenonzcar.com/s30/reference.html If you put the heads on without springs what are you going to hold the valves in place with? The spring pressure holds the retainer locks in the upper spring retainer to the valve stem and if you use compressed air that will only work on the cylinders the the valves closed, not all the others that are partially open on their exhaust/intake strokes. -
Just got a phone call from the wife around lunch, a large heavy package showed up at the house from Ohio addressed to me! Can't wait to get home and take some measurements, set it in it's new home and throw a rod on it.

http://m.summitracing.com/parts/qa1-10ht300 silver powder coated. Landrum, ridetech, summit, eibach and a few others also list a 2.5 x 10" in a 300lbs/in rate. Summit's are about the same price, others are all more expensive.

wheel balance questions
1969honda replied to 280zex's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Have them try breaking the bead on the tire with the most weight, rotate tire on rim 180 and balance again. When I worked for a tire shop we did this frequently if a tire took over more than 1.75-2.0 ounces per side to balance out, usually dropped the required weight into that range. If your not afraid of the clip on weights being used, use them. I've seen the stick on weights peel off after a few days or a good burn out, especially if they didn't clean the wheel with alcohol or some type of solvent to get any road grime or brake dust off. The other issue with the stick on weights on the inside, from my experience, if you don't have the weight all the way out on the edge of the rim face like the clip-ons do, it doesn't balance out quite the same (takes more weight). I've also seen where brand new wheels we swapped tires around trying to get a set balanced out and it just ended up being that one rim had a heavy spot in it, spun true on the balance machined but no matter which of the 4 tires we mounted from the set it took over 2 ounces per side to balance it out. The other three all balanced out with .5-1.25 ounces total weight. Another thing might be a belt slipped in your tire, it happens from time to time. This can cause a vibration or even a lateral pull in the alignment.. -
Well I got some good news yesterday on the crankshaft and then this showed up in my e-mail today, should be shipping out with bearings as I write this! Very excited to get this piece so that I can double check some measurements and make a final decision on rods (most likely Molnar Tech. LS Turbos, possibly Callies) and then decide on the final piston bore. Need to contact Ray Shake from MA Motorsports and pick his brain on some different parts and the pistons I'm looking at....

8.8 definitely looks like the best money spent for available gear selection and strength. Have you seen Will's kit in the vendor area? Curious to see what you come up with if you build your own kit. Here's a link to Will's if you haven't seen it. http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/117668-the-ultimate-irs-swap-for-s30s/# -

Check LS1 tech classifieds, usually a few over there for sale -
Glad you got this all figured out; I just got home from work and running a few errands so it is after dark and the car is outside at the moment.

wheel mounting surface. I'll see if I can get a measurement when I get home this evening if nobody responds before then.

That looks awesome! Maybe I'll have to pick up a z32 down the road....
