  1. arent hess gas stations in the south?i think florida doesnt have a helmet law.california has a helmet law.but for that matter some magazine(i forget the name) voted modesto the 5th most overweight town in usa.but the large people ride in pick up trucks around here.
  2. engine is a 2003 yamaha fz1 1000cc.its geared to high-but with out paddle tires you can spin the back wheels to get the revs up.bought the rolling chassis from ebay seller for $2900.its not built correctly-suspension too low and rear axles are weak.but this type of car that are pro built go from $15k to $30k new with a hayabusa motor.i aways have to learn the hard way.
  3. latest project.if its way overpowered its always more fun.problem is i bought the chassis off of ebay.the suspension sucks and it need a major rework.
  4. i prefer nevada at 6am on certain roads for this kind of stuff.when there are no side access roads and you can see for 10 miles ahead its much safer.but you have a 4000 ft altitude problem to deal with.

  6. some people would rather flip out the credit card than roll in mud at pick&pull.the spider pin in my r200 lsd is loose in the diff and clunks-time for a spare while i fix the lsd.
  7. mike-to make 700 hp with 6 injectors they would have to be 1000cc per injector at 80% duty cycle with bsfc assumed to be %65.your datalogs would be very interesting.most modern engines have cylinder heads that flow well-thats what keeps them wanting to turm more rpms.most people are smart enough not to turn 8000rpm with 20+ psi boost on a daily driver.if your porsche has a mass air flow sensor it would be nice to find out what cfm air flow is going through it.anyway you will probably get into it someday.
  8. mike-how is your porsche programmed-max boost,max injector duty cycle,ign timing at max boost/high rpm.trying to get some general knowledge as far as tuning stratigies that oem cars use.the suby was a standard wrx 2.0l .sti has a 2.5.
  9. kid next door gets a slightly used 2005 wrx.since these seem to be latest fad car to have of course he wants it faster.being normal for his age of course he has a laptop+obd2 cable.he had a program called enginuity on his laptop so we go for a spin in the country.we dialed up the the sensors i wanted to see-map sensor,rpms,injector duty cycle,ignition timing,speed,intake air temp,air fuel ratio.i drove-pulled onto the road easy-short shifted to 2nd at about 15mph and ran it at wot 2nd,3rd,4th.some interesting info gathered compared to tuning on my megasquirt turbo z.air fuel ratio stayed at 11.25 to 1.timing stayed at 13-14 btdc.boost maxed at 12-13 psi.injector duty cycle hit 92%.this tells me the engine is tuned to live a long time-unless some kid tries to screw it up with too much boost or timing.it wont take much more hp with out bigger injectors.when the cold air intake and complete exhaust system go on i will have to see if the a/f goes slightly leaner.i sent the boy home with homework-i told him to check some of the tuners like cobb to see what they do with a/f and igntion timing-as in get me the maps open so i could see them.meanwhile i need to take some timing out of the z-with 2960 stroker at 8.2-1 it likes race gas.at 10 psi i have about 26 btdc-it might have to goto 20 or 22 btdc.
  10. i ride with a gloves,padded jacket,helmet-but usually wear jeans.looking into getting 1 of those aerostich suits.they look like coveralls.reality is that your jacket usually just rolls up leaving exposed skin.the suits keep you from getting road burns.
  11. not good at posting links-but go to http://www.advrider.com and look in racing forum-there is a post there.2 monthes ago some surfers got carjacked on the road that runs west slong the border fence.some fake cops took thier truck at gunpoint.the drug cartels run tj.i like baja but stay out of tj.the tj cops were closing lanes at the border(race crews going home) and fleecing americans for $100 saying they were in the wrong lane.i usually go into baja at mexicali-at 7 am.
  12. east coast beaches are much better than california beaches.if the housing market hadnt of gone 4 legs up around here i would be out of california.nice truck-all gear heads need toy haulers.the running boards are usefull for reaching in the bed and getting the misses in the cab.
  13. good post-i am getting ready to dyno my z -has 1500 miles on new 2960 stroker motor.my turbo has a stock turbine side that has been remachined for stage 5 wheel and waste gate hole has been ported.compressor is 60-1.has stock internal waste gate.have to swap exhaust manifolds because of a leak.have spare ready to go-ported and machined.thinking about getting a new garrett gt ball bearing turbo-and redo down pipe to 3".
  14. i have a 2002 yamaha fz1-kind of an old mans r1.the local dynojet showed 130 rhp after carb kit and slip on muffler.the new gsxr1000 are getting 160-170 with bolt ons and a good tune.
  15. my z has been a work in progress for years.currently it has a 3.0l stroker/60-1 turbo,megasquirted+supporting mods engine.current datalogs show its calculated hp to be about 350-working on more always.i have been lucky enough to have a few other toys that are very fast and seem to get my attention while driving them.the z seems to always need more work.so i did some math on my motorcycle.it dynoed at 130 at the wheel.weighs 500lbs.-not exactly new suzuki gsxr1000 type stuff but it runs good.turns out i am showing 3.85lbs/hp on the bike.my car is heavy for a z-2650 but its a 77 with ac.did the math-i need 688 hp at the wheels if i want the car to run like the bike.my addiction will never end.
  16. i have worked on a few 280z/zx trans and have a box full of gears and parts for non-turbo trans.the only time i had a trans problem was when i had a leak at the speedo drive-countershaft bearings went .i had noise in all gears except 4th.everybody has a different trans preference.i run the 280zx non turbo 82/83 trans -it has close ratio spread and the best 5th for freeway.when i first used my z at sears point for a track day i discovered the big gap between 2nd & 3rd in old 77 5 speed.with a 3.2 na motor i would guess a 82/83 zx trans with a 3.9 r200 out a zx would work well-quick with a good 5th for freeway.if you dont want to fix old trans you can take your chances at pick&pull.i run a 3.0l turbo engine with 3.7 rear-i like the way the na trans shifts with redline oil but it wouldnt be my pick for drag racing-my car is used for open track days on road race courses.
  17. with 0 posts you will be told to use the search function-but i dont get that picky.you have an 81 engine.most people used the ms with a 82 or 83 distributor .82-83 distrubutor can be hard to find.i have a 77 with zxt engine.engine used to have 81 ecm.i run a hall effect sensor with 3 magnets in the flywheel.i use the 81 dizzy to distribute the spark only.the ms directly fires the zxt coil/ignitor assembly.if you put 12psi boost with no timing retard you will get broken pistons-that is why ms is used to control timing and fuel on turbo engine.timing should be back to 20 to 24 btdc under boost.you might be able to rework the vacuem/centrifical/initial on a 76 distributor to work but its easier to do it on the computor
  18. i run r4 on track but i switch to regular off the shelf pads for street.but r4s porterfield pads should work good.i run r4s on back with my willwood 2 piston calipers,
  19. i you try to put r134 oil into a system that had r12 the 2 different oils will form a sludge.there is a chemical solution you buy at auto parts stores that you need to pump through the rest of the system.the reciever dryer will need to be replaced.the inside of the system needs to be clean with no traces of old oil/metal.if there is any metal compressors will continue to blow.when i worked as a ford dealer tech we had a machine that pumped cleaning solvent through the system and had to replace the solvent and fl1a oil filter on every use-if this wasnt done ford wouldnt pay the warrenty claim.the system should be as clean as if it were assembled from new parts.

  22. $500K car(i am guessing) and a $500 tweakster special trailer.must be east coast guys.west coast guys bring a full on semi with the car strapped down in the middle all by itself.i fixed one of those guys at thunderhill one time-late braked and passed going into turn 10 at 110 mph

  24. i have been unemployed so i have been doing skip tracing for my buddies used car lot.any body use a good website for reverse phone number lookup on unlisted numbers?something that doesnt charge?or a really good site that only charges a membership fee?
