  1. As mentioned by datsun40146, I also used SS carage bolts that I purchase from West Marine. They have a nice pan-head but I had to round out the square area under the head. Pretty inexpensive and the SS polishes up very nicely to match the chrome. This is the cheap way to go....and quick too! Tom
  2. Once you go black you never go back.........unless of course its RED!!! IIRC, my Z is Insignia Red....paint was layed on in 1983 and still looks pretty damn good...Am I right Ricardo? Tom
  3. I think you know what color I would choose but, being of the senoir citizen age.....who's going to listen anyway! Tom
  4. Do the words Norelco or Gillett bring anything to mind??? Sorry, I couldn't resist! Tom
  5. I don't mean to be a wise guy but, the simple answer is obvious.......450HP in a 30 year old car, originally delivered with approximately 150 HP!!!? Time to spend some $$$! P.S. I would also take Jon's advise about checking the complete suspension for other possible failures. Tom
  6. If nothing else.....there would be no brake fluid to bleed or heat up!!! Certainly wouldn't want to lose EMF.

    tranny?

The turbo tranny will bolt up. How much difference it will make depends upon your final drive ratio and tire diameter. Try the search function....it's a great learning tool.
  8. I think the least expensive method would be to have it anodized....maybe $40.00 Tom
  9. I think Carlos Mencia would be saying....Dut-ta-daaaaaa!!!!! I'm with alexideways, the father is the idiot. Tom
  10. Well, John just answered the why......how much difference each change makes is just a matter of analysis and calculation. Tom
  11. Try AFCO, some really knowledgable and freindly folks to deal with! Check out their website. Tom
  12. I quess arm-wrestling for the Ferrari is out of the question!!!! Tom P.S. Geeez, I thought it was a dude at first!
  13. I agree with spork....why fiberglass? Its going to be heavier, require more space, and will retain heat more than aluminum. If you fab it from fiberglass your friends may just have an opportunity to laugh....as there are good reasons why just about every turbo induction plumbing is made from aluminmu. Tom
  14. Its always funny how old wives tales get started and people begin to think they are fact! I don't understand how the one about a light weight flywheel being un-streetable got started but, I'll tell you that my 13 lbs aluminum flywheel (L28/SU's/5 spd/ 4.10 LSD/ 235-40x17" tires) has made my 1970 240Z drive much easier.....for all aspects of driving a manual tranny. Tom P.S. Buy that sucker and be done with it!!!!
  15. Definitely a G35.....the Track Version with all the goodies! Of course the color is up to you. If they don't have exactly what you want, wait and purchase it when they get one for you. Don't let your emotions drive the purchase...you may regret making a snap decision and wish you had taken a bit more time. Tom
  16. One addition for the limited budget....stainless steel flex lines to the calipers and rear slave cylinders. With what John Scott mentioned and the SS brake lines, you will have a pretty nice brake system. Tom
  17. Well............first of all it appears you have a rotisserie, good! I would complete the entire shell, doors, hatch, hood, and front fenders first. Second, install wiring, fuel lines, brake lines, and glass. Next, suspension and steering. Next, bumpers, lights, and fuel tank. Next, (at this point it doesn't really matter what next) engine and drive train. And of course the interior. I also recommend that you docuement the entire process.....daily log of what you've done and things you encounter as well as lots-O-pictures. Also purchase a factory service manual.....worth their weight in gold! But before you start, decide what exactly you want the finished car to be...as in, factory original, modified, or a track car. This way you won't be waisting time by going back and changing things. Do plenty of research, access the archives on this site and Classic Zcar Club, and ask lots of questions if you can't find answers in the archives. Oh...and stay focused on the end result. If you and your son get a bit overwhelmed by it all during the process, take a break and return to the rebuild when your enthusiasm has returned. This way you will avoid taking short cuts or doing a less than acceptable job. Hope this helps you a bit. I only speak from my experience when I went through my 240Z. I can now look back and am thankful I did what I suggest to you. Good luck P.S. Does your son know how lucky he is to have a dad who is willing to do such a project with his son? Tom
  18. I've been using a four-point harness, race seats, and rollbar for over five years in my street driven 240Z and I'll admit it takes a tiny bit more time to secure myself as well as getting out but, I certainly feel safer than with stock belts. Personally, I prefer to take the extra time necessary to achieve a higher safety factor. Generally speaking, when the sheit hits the fan you don't have any time to do anything but hang on. Tom
  19. Regarding staking the plug in place......I'd think twice about using this method! Why? If you ever have to replace them, the bore the plug presses into will no longer be round, due to the staking process. The screw method sounds like the correct choice to me. Tom
  20. Excellent........perfect!!!! I've always thought that this guy was a bit in love with himself.......I was right! By the way, where did this cat come from anyway? Tom
  21. You'll be hard pressed to beat the quality and strength of ARP studs. I installed a set of their SS studs (for the int/exh manifolds) on my N42. These studs are like jewelry....plus, on one end of the stud they provide a recessed hex drive for easy installation. Tom
  22. HAPPY B-DAY Terry!!!! Doesn't feel any different does it? Just another feather in the old cap, so to speak! Just remember....."It's mind over matter that makes the difference but, if you have no mind it really doesn't matter"! lol.
  23. Are you talking about traction bars? If so, remember the Z has independant rear suspension.
  24. I'm glad to see everyones sense of humor is working well! I was just curious if anyone knew what was taking place as I've never seen that many exotics driving down the fwy at one time....thanks for all your wonderful insights. Tom
