  1. Well, first the TT350. The C&S carb is awesome, motor works great, but the trans TC seal leaked. So, a transmission buddy wanted a wood stove I had so off to his place went the monte. A straight trade on fixing the leak. He called, it's ready, so I went out to pick it up yesterday. 30 degrees here and that carb has no choke. Can you say 2 hours to get it running!! So, get it running, load it on the trailer and then he says "Crap". I look back and there is a puddle of red fluid where the car was sitting and a line leading to the trailer. So, back in the shop is went. Next week on that one. Still have to solder in the MSD wiring, Greddy wiring, finish the exhaust, hook up the wastegates, and alky injection, etc, etc. Lots of little doodads. So, while I was out and about I went to the Paint Prison to visit the z. It has body work completed and is primered. WoooHOOOOO! New deal though, I have to build him a 383 for his camaro in exchange for the paint job which will then have no logo's painted on the car. Not a bad deal, so that's the new deal. The z will be Kandy Apple Red with Kandy Orange Ghost flames. Should be bitchin' when it's done. He doesn't get the motor until the car is done. Motor will be done before first of the year. So, we'll see if that's motivation. Going tomorrow to get a Barry Grant fuel log and a set of BBC headers, time to slap the 509 cubic inch BBC into the '33 dodge and go play in the mud, sand, whatever is around.
  2. Even for a street car I'd go #9 resistors. Nothing says performance like the #9. Wow all the gearheads when you show them what you have under the hood!
  3. Arizona z car has some of the sexiest suspension parts around. Billet lower control A arms for the front, big tube coilovers, springs for about $1400. They have the back too. I've never really looked at much else and never used anything else.
  4. The maximum traction is at insipient slip, just before actually slipping. F=mu(s)*F(normal). There is mu static, mu insipient, and mu dynamic. There is a specific range of mu for asphalt dry and wet. Take a hotwheels car, tape the rear tires to the top of the car so they don't turn or rotate, slide it down a slide in the playground with the car facing forward. Guess what happens? The rear swaps ends with the front. mu dynamic is alot less than mu static or mu insipient. It's a fact! It's not rocket science, pretty simple really. If you want to get alot more technical then rubber compound comes into play, but still rather simple. As for rolling resistance, think of mountain bike vs. road bike tires, the tire pressure, contact patch, etc., still pretty simple. Narrow tires have less rolling resistance since they are less flexible, they have the same normal force. Land speed cars are geared alot different than anything else, they do the flying mile, not standing start and they are not applying loads of torque to the tires.
  5. Ok, enough discussion about personal likes, why one car is as good as another, etc, etc. There's mechanics that talk the talk, but have cars slower than crap, that's a fact! Just because you race it doesn't mean it's fast! Let's get back to pic's of the cool old skool cars. They were cutting edge at the time and damned impressive IMO.
  6. :lmao: Z-gad is feeling uneasy these days, especially since that big bullseye appeared on his butt! His GF is complaining of competition! :lmao:
  7. Well, the wife and kids can tell the bad guys to wait until they find the shells and load the gun before he comes in. Just don't try coming around my place at night uninvited and snooping around, I have a round in the chamber and pleanty more where that one came from.
  8. Dayum, the kid wasn't foolin either. Santa's packing heat too!!!
  9. My mum is from England, warboys to be exact. Nice picture. I'm not a fan of flexible chassis.
  10. Dear Santa, I've had a rough year. I tried to be good, but some morons really P'd me off and I lost my cool. If it hadn't been for that I'd of been the best of the best, well, unless you ask my ex-GF, but she lies sometimes, so take what she says with a grain of salt, actually the whole salt shaker. I'd like a set of batten DOHC heads for the SBC, but I'd settle for some camel iron heads, new JE pistons and 3.875 stroke crank. PS, my kid says you look just like me! Doc
  11. Looks like the "Stang" finally came out of the closet to me. Sad, really sad.
  12. Well, since you don't have availability of turbo blocks, the host of domestic v8's we do, and the aftermarket, cheap gas, then by all means cast your own aluminum L6! That is what generates your necessity over the pond.
  13. I think if you matched dollar for dollar a 240z with today's cars, you could end up with most of the latest accouterments like A/C, cruise, stereo, quicker, faster, better handling, better braking and better mpg's. Maybe if you matched $$$ with a C06 vette you could end up with heated power seats, all leather, sound deadening matting, and spank the pants off the vette.
  14. Oh, he was stupid, took it to a dealer that I had been to, to get a new ignition switch put in, and the dealer checked and the vin had been ground off. They ran the engine serial number since Polaris matches that to the vin and VOILA, it was my 4 wheeler! So he called me directly. So, the cops and I waited in back while they phoned him and told him to come pick it up. He came in paid, they pushed it up ramps into his truck and then the fuzz came out and busted his happy A$$! The look on Joe Lucero's face was PRICELESS! TOOL!
  15. Necessity is the mother of invention. Git R done!
  16. Well, I know one thing I can add. The z has hood pins, no latch, no springs and if I drive the z at any speed over 20mph with the hood pins minus the ritch pins to hold it down. the hood comes up in the back to the point where you can't see the road. Now this hood isn't your ordinary hood either, 6 inch cowl in duction chevy type scoop riveted onto the a huge hole cut in the stock datsun hood. IMO there is substantial underhood air pressure based on my real world observations, even at low speeds. Whether the cowl induction hood contributes to this high underhood pressure or helps is anyone's guess at this point. I'm not going to guess, but rather wait for the "real deal", the results may be totally suprising!!! I'm soo looking forward to the wind tunnel testing and the results that could help us all in our endeavors to achieve more stable, higher speed z cars.
  17. Honestly do you all think this is going to be under 3K? I doubt it. Unless your a diehard inliner, the cost vs HP isn't going to compare against any other options IMO. Other than the WOW factor I don't see alot of promise. For $4K you can have an aluminum bulletproof Brodix, donovan, dart block and have cubes, stroke and weigh 100lb less than any gen 1 sbc and probably less than the LSX series. You just can't have your cake and eat it too.
  18. 1. Well, decide on a purpose you intend for the car. 2. Decide on year model, I guess pre '74 or '75, can't remember which. 3. Set a budget. 4. Get the JTR manual, about $40 or so. 5. Get a plan based on budget. Go from there. I can assure you that you'll spend more than you want, unless your an accountant, and it'll take longer than you think, and you'll have more fun than you can imagine. Welcome
  19. I'm not sure what's "best", but it's all a function of money. Best bang for the buck, low tech is carb'ed sbc gen 1, or carb'ed ls1. But that's my opinion. If you find a donor LS1 car you can part it out and recoup some of the expenses.
  20. For those of you considering methanol, it'll pick up that NA motor 20 to 30 hp. You don't need 15,14 or even 13:1 to run it. It works very well on 9:1 motors and stock cams.
  21. Same thing happened to me. Back in 2000 a guy stole my 4 wheeler, trailer, tools, etc. He was a guy that came with a friend to visit. Anyway he got caught with the 4 wheeler in his truck, tried to say he bought it, got convicted, put on probation and ordered to pay restitution. Well, he never paid and then he got busted for poaching. Since he was on probation he got sent up to minimum security. Now I get like $25 and $50 checks every two months. He gets $0.25/hr for working inside the big house. I put the money in my boy's savings account and relish the fact that the schmuck is getting corn holed and hating life.
  22. You won't want 10.5:1 if your going to boost it someday. 9:1 max in that case.
  23. Jon, I have to agree with cameron, from and engineering standpoint, you overkilling something that's already dead as far as the rear struts are concerned. Meaning there is no live loads there to distribute that you haven't already accomplished. Doc
