Annoying? Yes. Morons? Yes. However, it pales in comparison to the rust hole I uncovered yesterday while investigating how much the battery acid from the PO's battery damaged the car. How can anyone not use a battery tray or at the very least a sealed battery like an Optima??? Why the tape and such a half***ed job? Morons?!? YES!!!!!!!!!!!! It bites. Davy

Looking good!. Can't wait to see it once everything is installed--should be a real head-turner Davy

Ah, now I think I remember: this almost sounds like what they were doing initially for the LS1 swap a number of years ago. They had to cut everything, as I recall, and measure for mount fabrication. I don't think this was done for the SBC. Davy

Ha ha---that's from Top Secret....I loved it One of the best quotes: "Oh no, you don't want to touch that. Davy

"Que bella." --- Ferris Bueller "He should have never left the keys in the car..." --- Ferris Bueller I would love an NSX as a DD, but the prices are too high for what you get in an older one (read: what I can "afford"). Nice cars nonetheless. You are one lucky guy Davy

Why do import guys have stufed animals/dolls on their exhaust?
DavyZ replied to stravi757's topic in Non Tech Board
Hey, just put on an extension to make the ball sack drag on the ground. I think the look on the guy's face when he goes back to see WTH the noise is from the rear of the car would be priceless. "Who touched my balls?!?" "Who has been playing with my balls?!?" "Now my balls are all banged up!" This absurd topic just has me rolling in laughter. It's so juvenile that I can't stand it Davy -
350 SBC, E-Tec Heads: Cam & Trans
DavyZ replied to Doc Hawk's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Doc, this is roughly the same route I am going with engine & transmission. I am confident that the WC T5 will take a very decent amount of abuse w/o breaking up, especially with minimal drag racing launch shock applied to it. 73BOTIZ ran at least that much hp in his 240Z and drag raced it on occasion without any damage/breakage. He even used a non WC T5 too! Don't fear the WC T5 in my opinion. I bet you'll be fine and have a great car to boot One caveat: make sure you have a sound transmission to start with, sir! Davy -
If you mean a motor plate style mount, the short answer is, 'yes.' All other mounts that I recall (MSA, JTR, Hooker/Scarab) have been bolt in, unless homemade. Davy

1975 280z Transmission Question
DavyZ replied to stairs240z's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
The transmission should be a 4 speed 700R4 and should NOT be taching out at 3000 rpm @ 60 mph. It is 1) not shifting into 4th gear most likely or 2) actually a 3 speed trans TH 350 or 3) your car has some unreal numerically high gear ratio. Make the determination on the type of trans first before doing anything else. It may just be a fix to make it shift correctly, that's all. A T5 will also tach out at nearly the same rpm if your rear gears are numerically high. Does that make sense?? You should search for T5 conversions in this site and read before asking the question. Drivetrain forum should also have answers too. Davy -
Looking good! I'm glad someone is actually going with the DZEUS fasteners instead of bonding the panels in; it gives the car a more racy look with the added benefit of very fast removal. Car is looking great and will be the business, especially with the excellent wheels--super! Davy

I think the owner coming around again after the sale is what makes my hair stand up on end, not necessarily seeing the car. Some buyers are your worst nightmare, come back, call you, ask you more questions, etc, and you wish you never sold the car to them in the first place. When I sell a car to someone, I feel like never want to see them again--the higher the sum ($15K in this case), the more the feeling. Davy

Looks good, Deja! So you had to go with more power this time, eh? Let us know how much better your car does on the street with the crate motor installed. To bad your other LT1 burned oil after all that work getting your car sorted out over the past few years. It all comes down to money, don't it? Davy

Hanns, I love this new carb hat even better than the old one in your signature. The engine looks so wicked---thanks for being a great inspiration to us all! BTW, don't forget to swap your valve covers around to keep the engraved flames going back the correct way You rock

STUNNING CAR! I love the black wheels and orange paint: it all goes together so nicely. You left the right amount of black on some of the body trim, etc, just enough to make it "pop." Great balance. Hope to see you at some of the car shows in NC. Will you be at Lowes in Oct? Davy

1973 240z V8 Conversion
DavyZ replied to 240zzzzsleeperzzzz's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
1) Yes 2) Probably JTR -
My MSD 6AL was mounted in the glow box of the Z. I imagine the Mallory is about the same size? The drawback to the MSD in its location is the sound (clicks?!) and the lack of any room there. I will find a location under the dash eventually, to free up some space. The floor scares me when I think of a leak (which my car has) that could put water on the unit! No thanks! Davy

I feel your pain. I have remodeled several houses and the last one was the most intense. Old, neglected, or just plain broken parts of the house are difficult to address because there are always deeper issues!! (like termite damage) "Screw it!" I have yelled and then ripped out all the old sheetrock just to give myself a level, solid surface to work on. Man, I know what you are going through. We opted for a newer home to avoid having to put so much time & effort into redoing an older home. It is great in that the house is relatively sound but, as with all things we own, it is never just "good enough" the way that it is. We want to change the color, we want to change the floor, etc, etc. Homeowner's disease never ends Davy

Paul, "Lonerevd" is the same "Lonehdrider" from way back when this forum began many moons ago. I don't think he noticed the date on the post since the forum layout has changed somewhat in the past decade. He still plays well with others and will catch on Davy

Ah, Lake Tahoe is certainly one place you should have visited--one of the best places in the Sierra Nevada mountains. I lived there when I was young. Another place you should visit is the Napa wine country, especially if you like wine, cheese, food, or even only beer (hail Lonestar Brewery!). Plus, Sear Point Raceway/Infineon Raceway is up there too. All that said, what John C said about leaving the cities is how you get to appreciate the state itself. There's a lot there to like. However, I'm very glad I moved out of the state when I did. Davy

One of the First Camaro SS to be Totallyt Wrecked..Shocking Pics.
DavyZ replied to slownrusty's topic in Non Tech Board
Camaro Driver: "Broke my back, both of my wrists, my ankle, and suffered a concussion. I guess I'm just glad I'm alive. " I guess I'm glad to be alive??? Davy -
I actually think the IRC footage is the best--I find it the least boring of nearly all racing film footage. Funny, but I actually would rather watch drag racing on TV rather than NASCAR, perhaps because the race has a brief conclusion, so the finality is eminent. Watching NASCAR is, to me, an almost tedious experience at times. All automobile racing is interesting to me, but I have to agree it depends on the footage. Also, it cannot be denied that it is better in person. I have been to Lowes Motor Speedway and have watched the NASCARs on the track (but not a race) and it's exciting. I really want to go to a race and be there in person. Davy

That's too funny!! So was Coffey's comment If I had 24 hrs to live......... ........I'd have to admit the Datsun V8 project would never get finished Sad day indeed... Davy

Yep, glad you walked away! I am still smarting from a motorcycle injury 5 years ago. Sounds like you will heal well and come back fighting! Have a great birthday! Davy

Hugh, I'm sort of in the same situation myself, so I empathize with you (minus the theft damage). I am going to order some Ford locks to replace the key locks (should be the same size as the Datsun) if i cannot find any others for a reasonable price on ebay. I would rather have new ONLY if I cannot get very decent used OEM equipment. As far as your rod(s) and roller assy are concerned, you might want to try Z Barn to get good used stuff. I would trust they would not sell you junk to replace your junk with. If I cannot refinish or easily fab the door mechanicals, I plan to just order something from them. Around here, Z's are very scarce at the junkyards. This info may not help much, but it is how I am planning to replace my own junk!! Davy

Yep, Due to reading another post a while back regarding fires and fire extinguishers, I went out and purchased two: one near the interior door to the garage and one near the opposite end of the garage. I have two in there just in case. I hope to never have to use them!!! Davy
