are you going it alone or do you have help
DavyZ replied to grumpyvette's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I can relate. I want to help my friend Auxilary with his car, but my growing family has required a lot of my time that I have little time for anything else. I'll be doing work to my car soon, but I'm not sure who will be around to help me when I need it. I may have to do all the work myself, but I'm hoping that at some point I can call on the knowledge of Aux, 73BOTIZ, DMANZO, Dan Juday and others when the time comes. We'll see. I'd love to show some serious progress before asking (whining?!?) for help. What's nice is that I trust all those guys mentioned. Plus, they all have good mechanical ability and an eye for sanitary hot rod style. If I need help in simply getting direction, this forum is the best place to be!! I know so many guys here that are near experts that I really don't worry much Good topic, Grumpy. Davy -
Ditto!!! I really like the Shamrock family, especially after reading the Lion's Den books. A bunch of my comrades from the dojo are going as well. I'm opting out since my house can stand the money, not my entertainment!! Davy

That's a joke, guys.... Also, these guys helped me with a situation I had involving me possessing a number of great rifles and then having the lovely state of CA make them all illegal. Gotta love it when a governing body just slams the law abiding... Guys, this is getting political *somewhat* so lets let the thread die quietly. I'm going to take my BP meds now... Davy

This has been done on Chevy engines for sure---take a two bolt mains and drill splayed mains 4 bolt caps. The key is to have walls thick enough to do it. Also, the two bolt blocks for Chevys are pretty stout and can take a lot. I believe they are at least good to 450 hp, maybe more. Ah, my failing memory... I'm sure the Ford guys will weigh in. Davy

The group buy we about 1.5 years ago all came white from Classic Datsun. I wanted black personally, but for what we paid, it didn't matter... Davy

"I'm sure some will think its quite impractical, but it really isnt(in most respects). The supercharger gets the turbo's fully spooled by 2300RPM, with the SC off, the turbo's dont hit full boost til 7100RPM. The production kit will come with 2 GT25's and wont include the SC. If I remember right its running ~25psi. Stock block and pushing well over 400HP." What exactly is well over 400 hp? 500? More? I'll stick to a V8, thanks. Davy

Ah, but the test drive afterward is so rewarding not hearing the dreaded noises anymore! I know the feeling and I love actually fixing something and seeing the reward at the end. Had to work on the house today *sigh* but at least I have a new kitchen window!! Davy

I don't think I've ever seen your tilting hood before or any pics of the hinges. Man, I'm speechless---that's one heck of a job in getting 'r done!! The new YZ body looks great on there, but isn't that the Subtle Z hood? I'm probably mixing the kits up. Still, the whole package looks great and if the paint is anything close, everyone will be in awe. Nice work! Davy

Super!!! Davy

It certainly is worth the try. They'll let you know what they can make go away and what they can't. Heck, I had Q45 done and they did a fantastic job--gave me a flat rate to do the entire car (17 or 18 dents everywhere--and I mean everywhere) and it amounted to less than $200 for me at that time (8 years ago). I'd say GO FOR IT! I've used them before and I'll use them again... Davy

What needs to be done to make my car driveable...
DavyZ replied to utvolman99's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
1) I have driven a number of V8Z cars in the SF Bay Area during the summer and even w/o AC they are not unbearable. I feel quite comfy in a non AC car after a short time, even when pampered with a climate controlled car most of the time. I suppose one gets acclimated to what one drives. That said, I'm using dynomat and will be using new under carriage spray. I'm contemplating ditching the tar stuff and just POR 15 the underside, but do Rhinoliner or something similar inside on the floors. 2) Vibrations can be caused by a number of things. After sorting out most common causes on a V8 Z, there should be no more vibration than from a stock Z---think about it!! 3) Fumes are a problem, but there is a stuck thread someplace in one of the forums addressing the issue--search The guys above have given you excellent advice. OH YEAH, WELCOME BACK! Davy -
Then I wondered how he gets air into them---ah, a functional hood!!! Davy

I like the look of the engine in there! Dig the IC mounting system...mmmm...tasty. Davy

I'm a real estate appraiser and I can tell you the real estate lady is off her rocker a bit--is she old??? I remodeled my kitchen with solid granite countertops. Most of the granite present day comes from China like it or not. I paid $650 for my 10' x 10' kitchen in prefab granite (full bullnose) and had to cut it and install it myself. If you dont have the tools or expertise to install it, then the granite tile becomes a very viable option, one that I did consider! I would do it!!! If you knnow you can lay tile, follow the gents advice and do 0 or near 0 gap. Use neutral colors if possible in the house in general since that appeals to most people. If this is a house you'll own for a very long time, do it to your taste, not everyone else's. Doing the countertops with something more modern like granite will at the very least give you an edge in selling over another competing house with formica, etc. I hate formica. Just my $.02. Davy

Great looking car! Got V8? Davy

The bumpers, if new, cost about $1000 each if they have all the rubber parts and such. Overall, I'd say you did very well with that price, especially with all those performance parts. You just need an engine and tranny to match everything else Davy

Mike, glad to hear he is in recovery. Get some rest and recover too.... Davy

I love the look of that car!! The ZGs look good painted body color as well. I hope mine will look that nice someday. Davy

No, but if you reread your paragraphs, you'll find that you can catch items such as not beginning your sentences with a capital letter, such as the quote below this sentence. Yes, but your posts are far better than some we have seen. Indeed, some posts are so bad it is actually difficult to understand the post! Most of them get deleted or put in the tool shed... But you'll be polite in your posts, no? Doesn't that "please us" as well? Chewie, it's in the way a person conducts themselves and to many a fellow here, that also means grammar, etc., since it involves time spent in writing and the thoughtfulness of the post. When a person goes to a certain amount of trouble to put up a good post, it deserves an answer. Ones that look like s**t surely don't. But that's my opinion... I doubt anyone is singling you out anyway. Your posts are a heck of a lot better than quite a few we have seen over the years!!! Davy

I was always asking SuperDan for a spell check---we used to have one once and I used it ALL the time! It was great for checking whatever you typed out, but was especially helpful for long paragraphs. I think Pete actually uses or used MS Word and then cut & pasted everything over once everything checked out. Good idea IMO. To all the fellows who have a difficult time with grammer: it's like everything else--you have to pay attention to it and keep trying to get better at it. Quick rule of thumb: when using "a" in front of a noun, you only use it when the noun begins with a letter other than a vowel (...a car...a person, etc.), otherwise you use "an" in front of a word that begins with a vowel (...an apple...an Indian...an umbrella). It's is a contraction of [it is] and not a possessive. Its is actually the possessive. So you would write "It's a Z-car..." and "Its motor is a V8." Following simple rules make things clearer for the reader and gives you several more IQ points in the process, the same way that loud stickers give you horsepower. Davy

Welcome, Russ. This is not a repost that I am aware of, so it's all good. The TVR V8Z is quite the bomb---I really like it. 5.0L motor? Sounds very healthy. I think you'll find this site full of useful information for the Z and ZX cars. Davy

If you can run a mechanical fuel pump on there, by all means do it. The only reason why I won't run a mechanical pump on my 240Z is that my engine is in the JTR position which eliminates space for one. I like mechanical pumps since they are nearly bulletproof. Davy

Clean engine! Looks like you could eat off of it. I think the car will a fast 280Z (correct?) when it is finished. I noticed that your quarter glass looks like it's painted--is it? Was there a reason for that? The ZG flares look good and so does the scoop. I also noticed the gas tank sits rather low, at least from the pic--how many inches do you have from the ground to the tank? Just curious. Lookin' good! Davy

I'd email or PM Aux if he hasn't seen this in a few days. I doubt he would recommend this swap to anyone contemplating it. He's still working on it AFAIK, but not every weekend. I wish him well. Davy
