  1. Here are pics of the rough mock-up for the interior fiberglass door panels for the 240Z. You can see the 6.5" speaker mount. All that gets blended in and smoothed out to make a mold. From the mold my friend can pull the door skins made of fiberglass. An original 240Z door was maimed in order to privide you with a quality part *sniff*. This is taking a much longer time than expected due to my friend's 9am-5pm+ job and life in general. I'll try to keep you posted about progress as it is made. You guys still interested? The most difficult, but not impossible, part will be to recreate the top metal bracket out of fiberglass and make a piece that will function and be strong enough to do the job without being too thick.
  2. Ah, I saw the pic posted and spoke too soon. I like the idea of a one-off conversion since it is closer to our car crafting than buying a complete car from a company like Mallet. Davy
  3. That's the one by Mallet cars (sp?). It's one slick package and there are power upgrades as well Davy
  4. Richard, I would think the rust belt cars would qualify for this as well. But seriously, for the majority of the western US, that tool works pretty darn well. I may duplicate a tool for myself using even better steel, but I'd have to get some help from my machinist friends You listening Mike D?? Davy
  5. We had (have?) a loaner program. Here is the thread--it's actually a 'sticky' above: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=84230 Davy
  6. I thought your new hobby was dodging bullets Davy
  7. So far all of the spindle pins I have removed have come out rather easily withthe spindle pin puller tool. Hope my luck holds out!! Davy
  8. Man, what a sweet looking 2+2. Ordinarily I don't like them, but yours is so clean and well done that I'd own it anyday. Wheels look top notch! Davy
  9. Nope, that's it as far as I know if you want a "kit." Nothing wrong with that IMO. Davy
  10. Man, I'm glad you didn't take the bullet!! I used to live near East Side San Jose and I had my bike nearly stolen when I was a kid at King & Story Rd--I don't have too many good memories from that place. My friend Marky was from that hood and he got it back! Nice to have friends in low places sometimes. Davy
  11. Nobody knows that and the "nismo" looks good on there Davy
  12. Man, that is CLEAN looking! Stunning job; I swear you make it look easy. I bet you can't wait to call it 'done'. Is that the last thing on the body to take care of? Nice work! Davy
  13. That would be cool if you could scan in some good photos. Also, you might try finding some Japanese tuner magazines for older cars. A good magazine was J's Tipo that had older cars in it. Davy
  14. Another option is to find a decent car that has salvage title, but has not been repaired so you know exactly what the damage is. I see some great pickups and other cars with salvage title that look pretty darn normal with the exception of a dent or messed up bumper. You have price haggling ability with a savlage title car and it still can look & drive well! I take it that this is a temporary car for you to drive... Davy
  15. Actually what Strotter is referring to are the masses of unwashed numbnuts that will undoubtedly find there way here. I'm with you, man. Davy
  16. I have been in my friend Aux's 240z that has the Illuminas---yes, you CAN tell the difference between the settings. The top setting is way too stiff as mentioned earlier, but if it fits your car for racing, so be it. The lower settings feel fine for the street. I have non adjustable Tokikos on my Z, but if I were to do it again, I'd go with the Illuminas. Just my $02. Davy
  17. Well a CAD program is certainly the way to go when designing this kind of thing--good to see that you are taking this venture seriously. I hope your efforts turn out like you hope. However, I'm thinking the car will be a near total rebody before its finished. Again: good luck!!! Davy
  18. I believe this was the same truck on craigslist a few months ago for $4000. I saw it then and salivated. I don't know if he did put that much more money into it, or if he is the same dude selling it on ebay now, but for $4000 I thought it was a good buy. Me likey. Davy
  19. The McLaren F1 is a mid engined car with a 'cab-forward' design front end. The Z is the polar opposite with the cab being in the back of the car. To mate the two looks (and look good) will be nearly impossible. Good luck. Davy
  20. I'm going to go a completely different way from many here: DON"T PAINT THE FLARES THE SAME COLOR AS THE WHEELS! You have a lot of flat black going on the car: airdam, rear spoiler (can't tell for sure), and the strip of flat black along the bottom of the car. That "theme" carries just fine with the flat black ZGs. If you go bronze, things are going to get a little strange looking IMO. Be careful before you do it and try to photoshop something FIRST before spraying!!! Oh yes, your car will look better lowered 1" with the size of tire & rim you have. Just my $.02 Davy
  21. You'll need a longer driveshaft, otherwise the JTR conversion should be textbook similar. Greimann has a very cool 2+2 V8 on this forum, but he sold it and bought a *gasp* Porsche... Davy
