LD28 Water Pumps

So, I've been looking at sourcing a pump from Australia... emailing a Jimmy at staparts.co.nz.  My stock pump (L28) measures 66 mm from the base to the top of the flange.  The pump they list as for LD28 is only 60 mm.  Part number on that one cross references to a WPN-062... not a WPN-079.  My  hypothesis is that the 062 pump differs from the 079 pump in this distance from back to front.  I wonder if just swapping out the front flange would make it 66 mm.  Those just press on/off...

Isn't inline6 saying here that WPN-062 is the diesel pump?  RockAuto is selling the -079.

From the info link on Rockauto -

More Information for AISIN WPN079

Alternate/OEM Part Number(s): 2101017S25, 2101017S26, 2101017S27, 2101017SY7, 21010V0725, 21010V0726, BA01017S27

Edit - maybe the WP079 is special after all.  The other manufacturers all list the same part number for gas and diesel but the WPN079 doesn't show as a gas engine option.  AISIN doesn't even have a gas engine option (1978 280Z example)  Carry on and good luck...

As soon as it gets here I'll bolt it up and see if it spins... Odd feeling hoping something doesn't work right out of the box!

Okay, I received mine (Aisin WPN079) last week and test fitted it by lining up holes loosely into the timing cover and it fits and spins WITHOUT any modification done to the cover. It is only slightly different (extended tab) than my new polished Paraut pump. The new Aisin appears to have had something lightly dremmeled off in two places. Paraut on the left and Aisin on the right. What do I have going on here?

Nelsonian,

It looks like they used the correct housing but ground down the impeller to look like a gas impeller. The diesel impeller blades overhang the back part of the wheel slightly whereas the impeller shown in your fist picture does not.

Did a quick measurement on mine. Aisin impeller diameter measured 2.958" (75.133mm). It would not fit two stock covers I have. Impeller would contact the 7 o'clock area by the water inlet (?). For comparison, my stock pump impeller measured 2.741" (69.621mm) and spun freely. Mine have the grind marks as well. Looks like they ground off a previous serial number or manufacturer name.

According to this thread (http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/111003-preferred-water-pump-l28et/?hl=%2Bld28+%2Bwater+%2Bpump&do=findComment&comment=1038367) , Atsugi is the parent company of Paraut and was the oem Nissan provider. Could anyone else buying the Rock auto offerings post pics of what you receive. Looks like I will be returning the  virtually duplicate pump to Rock Auto.
