  1. This is really neat, but also kind of creepy...How does google do this? http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=34.785616,-77.138513&spn=0,359.994314&t=k&z=18&lci=lmc:panoramio&layer=c&cbll=34.785538,-77.138478&panoid=EWvAf3hs-Jwvc82fz6IMNQ&cbp=12,100.46093265544107,,0,8.3511651407147 You can see my old red Fairlady, my white parts car, my turbo ZX, my garage (which holds 2 more z cars), my truck, my buddy's camaro (crappy V6), my house...everything...creepy...
  2. If no one chimes in you could always go through the forums and just read the threads that sound interesting. You learn quite a bit that way. Sorry, I'm a bit far down the road.
  3. I didn't notice that...Good call... What EFI are you using because it looks stock...
  4. First vehicle was a 1980s Mazda B2000 pickup. My father gave it to me when I got my license. I beat the hell out of it and ended up trading it for a 1985 Mustang lx with a 6 cylinder. Rear ended a pickup with that and it caught on fire because of the battery placement. Next was the 86 Toyota Corolla that got flooded. Rained for a week and I tried driving through what looked like a small puddle going across the road. Never ran right again. Next was the 88 Chevy Celebrity aka hoopty. Got from point a to point b with 5 friends no problem. The throttle had a tendency to stick and it finally stuck wide open one time and blew the engine. Next was the 65 chevy C10 with a 350 four bolt main, holly contender intake and 650 holly carb, vette 2.02 heads and a 4.11 rear. Great truck. 12 second quarter mile at the track. Rolled at 90mph on a back road. Kid backed out in front of me with no light on. he was trying to sneak his Dad's truck out with his buddy's but couldn't drive a manual and stalled it in the road. I swerved into the ditch, went end over end and bounced off the drivers side three times. The passengers side looked prestine, but I had to pry the drivers door open with a crow bar. Last but definetely not least, my first Z. 1981 280zx NA, black, t-tops, auto (hated that). Loved that car so much. I sold it in Texas after someone pried the drivers t-top out and pealed it back to get my wallet out of the console. I was an E-2 in the Army. No money, but easily financed for a newer vehicle. I won't go into the other cars I had after that unless someone really wants to hear the list.
  5. You will probably need someone local to you to come out and give you a hand diagnosing and repairing this car for a the most part. 2000 RPM is way to high to idle at, even when cold. I would start by replacing the intake/exhaust manifold gasket and the vacuum lines and anything else rubber you find that looks dry. Big thing with these cars is electrical connections. CLEAN THEM REALLY REALLY GOOD. Get some electrical contact cleaner and a really small wire brush. I've gotten away with using a small pocket knife blade and scraping the connections clean. Most of the problems I was able to get out of that post can be related to vacuum leaks and dirty connections. Please, please, please, use punctuation in your posts. The harder it is to read the harder it will be to get help.
  6. http://www.zspecialties.com has some upgrade alts for the Z's. I haven't tried one, but they are suppose to be bolt in replacements. Their online store is being worked on, so you may need to call them.
  7. It's always tough to tell from a video. The flat tappet design cam does make a lot of noise, but I would go through and readjust the valves just in case.
  8. You can use either one in it, but it is suppose to shift better with the ATF. There was a turbo supplement to the FSM with a section on the T5. Factory recommends ATF, so I say go with it.
  9. Z cars will not run when one of the battery cables are removed. It kills the field in the alternator. As for the links and the dead battery; Sounds to me like you need a new battery and new fusible links. Or upgrade the links to the maxi fuse box.
  10. Do not buy the harbor freight sawzall knock offs. I bought one and after minor use went and bought a Skill because it stripped the drive gear.
  11. Sorry, it's just irritating when people chime in with something that's already been covered further up the same thread. If he had the wrong tool for the job I think I would have identified it for him.
  12. Certain materials can break glass in funny ways. Ever break the ceramic off a spark plug and throw it at a window? Tried it in a junkyard once when I was younger. Hardly made a sound, but went clean through the window and caused the glass to shatter without falling through. Really neat to see. Anyhow, point being, I'll bet something hit the window. Highly doubt it just broke from age or weather.
  13. Ugh...He's not checking voltage, he's checking continuity through the relay.
  14. Funny, I was considering welding mine up because I prefer the flat solid look on a hood.
  15. I closed it and added a post that says Sold. I noticed after there was a response to the first post I could no longer edit the original to change the title or anything. And no delete option for me.
  16. haha..."unmeasurable amounts of horsepower (620hp)" Wait I thought was unmeasureable????
  17. Nice...Love the Devil Z. I'd like to see that when it's done.
  18. Driven my 81 in -4 degrees traveling through Ohio with the wife. Did great.
  19. I was wondering about deleting my sold ads as well. So far all I can do it close the thread.
  20. MJ, I would imagine someone probably busted the glass and the cracking you heard was just the cold stressing the already present cracks further. As others have said, glass doesn't typically fail from cold unless it's in the negative degrees. Even if it's already cracked it will only extend that crack. Water in the gasket channel wouldn't place enough pressure on the glas to cause that. The rubber would give more than enough to keep that from happening. Sorry to say, but I'd be sitting outside with a pellet gun in the bushes waiting for some neighborhood punks.
  21. Since everyone has had at this so far I may as well chime in. The expensive but very possible fix. Ignition Module. Of course there's also fuel starvation. Have you replaced the fuel filter? Checked the fuel pressure at the rail?
  22. Priceless! May the father of all Z shine down upon you my friend!
  23. I have an 82 Fairlady_280z, but she's not for sale. Had a 79 also, but it was a complete rust bucket and the guy I bought the 82 from took it for parts to knock some off the total of the 82.
