  1. That is horrible news! I hate hearing about kids getting hurt. So sorry for your and your families loss. Kids around pools have to be watched like a hawk. It can happen so quick. I will be saying a prayer for Lane and everyone that new him.
  2. That is a great looking car. Nice job! I like everything you have done. It should be more than quick enough with 2.0 motor. Enjoy it.
  3. Hello, I am buying another Z next week and the previous owner, to the guy I am buying the car, from has some paint still in a can from when the car got painted. I think it was painted about 6-8 years ago. Will this paint be good? There is a spot on the door I would like to get fixed and if I can get this paint (custom mix) instead of having new stuff made I figured it would make it cheaper to repair and also a better match. I searched but couldn't find an answer. Thanks for the help.
  4. That was some funny stuff. Nothing like a barbarian Gorby saving the world. Nice racks, though.
  5. If you are looking for used gear, you can go to newenough.com . They sell used leathers and left over stuff. You could also try E-bay or any of the sportbike forums (like sportbikes.net). I belong to TLZone and guys are selling used gear all the time. As many of the others have said, a starter bike can be anything. As long as you can handle it, be smart and take your time. I has a Yamaha Special when I was in high school and then had nothing for 6 years. When I got back into biking I bought a 1990 CBR1000. It was big, heavy and all top end, but it was fine for me. I graduated to a '98 VFR800. I think this was probably as close as you can get to a perfect bike. It is very comfortable, great sound, and can handle with most of the sportbikes. I then had to have an R1 (see my sig). That kind of bike is a beast and not for a rookie. That bike was too much fun. I also had a CBR600F3 track bike. Great bike that crashed well and had enough power to have fun, but not too much to get you in trouble (well except for that high side I did in front of the wife at Summit Point). I now have a '97 TL1000S. It is a lot of fun, has great looks and that great big twin sound. I still get thumbs up for it even though it is an eleven year old bike. Do what ever is going to work for you. I think the SV will keep you happy for some time, but I can not say for sure. I never rode one. I think the 919 wouldn't be too bad for a starter bike if you are smart and don't pressured into stupid too easy. The VFR would be a nice bike, too. It's all up to the rider.
  6. I am guessing he is talking about the weight of the wheels. Since they are a less expensive wheel they are not light. It is an issue for all out racing, but for someone on a budget and doing track days, I see nothing wrong with them. They give you more contact area for a decent price.
  7. Very nice Phil. Your daughter seems to be very good at dancing. I would be a little nervous putting my little girl above my head, too. Although, I am sure she would think it was just cool. Good job.
  8. Looks like a good find. I will have to look around some more.
  9. That is funny. Don't you love it when you have something to say and no one to tell. Priceless.
  10. Beautiful bike. I really would like an R1, again. It is just not practical right now, though. I do have a TLS1000, though. I can get 40mpg highway with it, so I would think you should be able to get high 40's with that, if your not spinning it.
  11. I am interested in a car in the Ft Lauderdale, FL area and I was wondering if anyone could take a look at it, before I fly down there. I just want to make sure it is worth what they are asking and that it seems "roadworthy". I would be driving it from Florida to PA. If you could help me out out it would be appreciated, and I would be willing to pay you for your time. Thanks for your consideration.
  12. Holy Crap! Talk about commitment. There didn't look like much room for error on that run. Awesome sound coming from that screaming motor.
  13. Wow, that is nice. I really like the sound of that motor singing. I doubt I would ever want to listen to the stereo. The engine is all the music you need. Man that last quarter mile pass was awesome. Nice work.
  14. Happy B-day Phil! May it be filled with happiness and joy.
  15. There is a guy that sell all types of nut and bolt kits on ebay. He goes by the name zcarcreations.com . If you do a search under that name you should find his store. Hope that helps.
  16. All I can think of is face burn. Man that must of hurt.
  17. Big Phil, nice video. I used to love watching the stunting guys. I could do wheelies (notice the avatar) and stoppies but nothing like stunters. I just couldn't risk binning my beautiful R1. So how many bikes did you destroy in the learning process? I really like your car. It is amazing how you transformed this from the ugly beast to the fine running beauty. Congrats to you! Now go have a perfect beer! Ha!
  18. Do you have a Power Commander II by any chance? They are known to go sh#!ty after awhile. If that isn't it I would look at having the TPS adjusted and the throttle bodies synched. Even if it doesn't have a power commander it could be the stock computer doing strange things. I am betting your problems are electronic and map related. Let us know what happens.
  19. Big Phil, that is one nice vid! The tires don't have a chance in first or second gear. That really got me motivated to get this car on the road. I am hoping that this will be the year. I would love to see what kind of #'s that car is putting to the wheels. Keep the great videos coming.
  20. Man does that car sound sweet! I am thinking he will turn a few heads with the beautiful sound of that motor coming from his Z. Good job EvilC.
  21. M3 is a very nice car. The kid should have his A** beat for taking out his daddy's car and beating on it like that. I wish the cops did catch him, and give the good ol nightstick treatment.
  22. That car looks good for $600. I am looking for another cheap 280Z. I have a ton of parts to put on the car already. My current 280 isn't done yet, but I would like something I could drive now and just do some basic stuff to it. Good job on getting the Z. It looks like a nice start to have some fun with.
  23. Cool pics. I am looking forward to going out next year a doing some autocross.
  24. It just depends on what you are looking to achieve. There are a bunch of guys with 8 to 1 compression ratios that are in the 400 hp range. The main reason you would go higher on compression is that you are looking for a car that has a little oomph when not on the boost. You also have to realize that the higher the compression the more chance you have of detenation with large amounts of boost. You gotta remember that out engines are 25 years old and very out of date compared to a Honda motor. I think your RWHP number is achievable with either piston. But that is only my opinion, others may feel (or know) different.
