  1. Right, forgot about that. Yeah, that hump is gonna have to go. I have a '76 as well, and I've been thinking about how to best deal with that. I think I'd probably try hammering it out first before cutting and welding.
  2. If you're going with racing seats, and you're a tall guy, you may as well ditch the stock brackets, which you don't have anyway, and just weld some tubing to the floor to mount your brackets to. This has been done, and you should find some info on doing that in posts by John C.
  3. Wow. You really went at it. I don't think I've ever seen anyone go that far into the chassis. Kind of nice to see since that's the effort it would take to really properly fix the series 1 chassis I have since I have rust in the seam between the inner and outer wheel housings. I'll sub and do a little binge of your videos later.
  4. Nice straight body on that one. Sounds fantastic though. Kind of seems like the footage is sped up a little?
  5. Challenger has a dark gray 2+2, and Toni L has a wicked 2+2 in white. Careless never had a 2+2.
  6. I believe that's why we now have what is referred to as the magnet test. Oh well. Too late now. Best of luck! To be honest though, it looks like it's more solid than my '76 is, at least based on the floors. Might want to take up the tar before saying for certain though.
  7. I wanted to make sure I was remembering that correctly so I tracked down the source: http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/110898-rust-repair-on-a-1972-240z/
  8. Be aware that this piece will need some fitting to work. The original piece is slightly curved, and based on what I've heard, that replacement piece is straight. I would try to fix the original piece before cutting it out and welding.
  9. Unless something changed, Ground Control offers a service to convert your struts to coilovers as well.
  10. I don't think it's the engine as much as it is the chassis. The lower part of the radiator support is different on 280Zs vs 240Zs. I don't believe a 280Z radiator will fit in a 240Z (I think I tried this once), I'm not sure about the reverse, haven't tried it. I would expect it to physically fit (no guarantee), but bolt holes may be different.
  11. Need to be a donating member. $20 minimum.
  12. Hey guys, I am seeing a need for some new moderators. Many of our current moderators no longer visit here regularly (as far as I can see), and sadly, two of them have passed away as well. Personally, I'd nominate SeattleJester, NewZed, JMortensen (if willing to take it up again), and Derek. If need be, I'll volunteer as well. Thoughts?
  13. I recall hearing about a turbo diesel 240z that ran on biodiesel years ago, but I have no idea where it might be now, or if it's the car you saw at that show. This is the only reference to it that I could find with a little searching. http://greenyes.grrn.org/2004/09/msg00087.html While searching, I also found these two:
  14. I think they said somewhere that it would be in the 2500 range or something like that. It isn't going to be super light.
  15. From what I've read, you shouldn't be using sand anyway. Health hazards aside, it's too abrasive, prone to warping the metal, and some have said that it will work harden the metal. If I were blasting, I'd use something a bit gentler. There's plenty of options.
  16. I'd have to agree with LLave, the problems you're having are relatable, and the solutions you find are useful. I've just started rust repair on my Z. I don't really know what I'm doing, but I'm already learning something from your videos (combating that damned warping!). Keep it up. Also, I've gotta say, that dent puller you made reminds me a lot of something my dad would make. He's very frugal, and extremely DIY minded. He's got a lot of home made tools at this point in his life.
  17. Looks great. What's it out of? Looks like it says Maserati on the valve covers.
  18. Well, the 280z is indeed a stiffer chassis (somewhat), but what you're describing sounds more like it's tramlining, which would likely have more to do with your alignment or tire choice.
  19. Damn. That's a real shame. At least he passed away peacefully in his sleep versus a long drawn out illness, especially considering he'd had cancer before. Rest in peace.
  20. I agree with trying to pull it out. I think that would probably be easier.
  21. Not really. Maybe if you blast it incorrectly using the wrong material you could do some damage (warp or work harden the metal), otherwise, no not really. Not that I've heard of anyway. Just a matter of time and money... and lots of both.
  22. All that work for an M50? Not even E30 guys bother with an M50 anymore, and that's a pretty easy swap.
