Update... the best prices i found for the pigtails was from partsamerica.com was 38bucks but 8 bucks shipping and 3 bucks tax cause they are in texas... bummer. I'm going to get the ignition module from the local orielys so that when it breaks i can bring it back under warranty. 57 dollars from them with lifetime warranty. Another question... do the wires going to the MS from the module need to be shielded to avoided disruption?

I was about to say vacumn but ya beat me to it. My N/A did the same thing but it was user error, I had a one way valve installed in my vacumn line and the engine couldn't breathe properly lol. Glad you fixed it. -Ed

I don't understand why you would want to do that... go over a big bump or something or slam on the brakes and laptop go boom and so does the ecu...just what i imagine happening if not firmly mounted. But to each is thier own I guess.... carry on lol. I would defn like to see megasquirt on PS or Xbox though!

Then whats the problem? Anybody on here can use a laptop to plug into the MS and tune... did I miss something? This thread was refering to mounting a PS2/Xbox in the car and tuning MS on it. Then a laptop was brought up... so one would assume you would mount the laptop in the car which makes absolutely no sense to me. If you want to use a laptop feel free, but I don't understand your posting in this thread then. BTW.... I've taken C++ and the code for megasquirt is all open source I believe it is compatible. I've looked at it through my compiler but I can't say if it's C or C++ I'd have to check again.

Ok I guess i'm out of the loop... my radio provides my sound system, my car alarm provides my security. Having the laptop in my car would be an extremely high theft item in my opinion. I can understand wanting to use PS to tune megasquirt... sounds like a great idea. They are redily available and fairly cheap as opposed to a laptop. A cheap laptop is just that cheap, busted worn out. If somebody breaks in and steals it your out like 100 bucks or a little more. Plus you can play two player or more games in your car. I'm just really not seeing the practicality of a laptop stationed in your car. The whole point of the laptop is mobility to take it where you go. Now... a micro atx computer in the car might be a better way to go if you want to incorporate all your "hi-tech" options that you rattled off. Every time you get in your car your gonna ahave to put it somewhere. Don't know about you but with a passenger there isn't a whole lot of spare room for a laptop to be floating around up there. It just doesn't make sense to me. (shakes his head in confusion)

I seriously doubt you are going to be able to find new electronics from almost 30 years ago. Electronics and ECU's have changed drastically in the last 10 let alone the last 30 years. More than likely it is going to have to replaced with a compenent that does the same thing but is much newer and much smaller and probobaly looks nothing like the previous. Atleast that has been my experience with them. Best of luck.

I'd rather put the xbox or ps2 in my car than a laptop for one simple reason. I can't play any of the games i have for those systems on my laptop in the car. Yeah it would be cool to have the laptop in your car but other than GPS satellite hook up and tunning Megasquirt what would be the benefit? Maybe i'm not seeing the broader picture here.

and what would the be the benefit from running the E12-80 as opposed to HEI module or just off the board? Is one more accurate than the other? Seems like the nissan module would be more costly.

probably not PS2 but Xbox you could probably pull it. Xbox can run windows because you can actually install stuff onto the drive. If you could find a way to partition the drive in the PS2 and install an older version of windows as I doubt a PS2 drive can hold 1-2gb then you might swing it. I'd go Xbox as you can put 80gb drives in them just like a computer and boot off of them. Little bigger, but still fairly cheap.

I have a V3 board and what is a E12-80? Olie... I can't afford to bid even 20 bucks right now if I can do it with what i have already. We just bought a 350z andy my girl is job searching.

I'd love to post mine but it's not running right now lol I took the ECU out to rewire so it'll control ignition now too. I couldn't hear olies for some reason but mine has a MSA 6-2-1 header that I actually really like, into 2.5" crush bent exhaust (only 2 turns) into a dynomax "bullet" muffler and finishes through a magnaflow street series flow through muffler. The dynomax was added about a year later as at top rpm range it would make ears bleed acording to friends I raced. They dynomax is completly flow through 2.5" all the way through, the magna flow is flow through as well but steps down in pipe diam inside the muffler probably 1.5 or 2" I haven't measured it. It sounds alot like the one with the Borla muffler posted as far as deep bass sound, but finishes with the raspy Z roar like the first clip posted. It has alot more bass to it since I added the dynomax. I'll try to post when I get it running. Oh yeah.. forgot to mention I run a decent sized cam too so it lopes when it idles kinda like a v-twin motorcycle, although the megasquirt cleaned up the idle quite a bit, much smoother now.

Just one question... why do you want less frontal downforce when Z's are prone to lifting at high speed?
