*I have been told* that Nissan added the webbing on the later 280Z's intake plenums because they were having issues with the heat ruining the injectors. This is second hand information, take it as you will. The heat shield is for extra protection and I would recommend using it so your injectors will lead a long life. If you have an extra set and care more about aesthetics, then take it off. If you look at a 280ZX engine bay they added another one to protect the brake master cylinder which is way further away than the injectors if that gives you an idea.

Yeah because that's the only thing from keeping you from driving it

So you did pull the sway bar off before you did this?

I bought my 78 was I was 19, I am 21 now. My roommate in Baton Rouge had a 73 240Z with a 350 SBC in it, he took me for a ride one night and right after the first pull from a stop I decided I needed one. I looked around for a while and finally found my 280Z just north of New Orleans. I've always wanted to do an LS1/T56 swap but that will have to wait until I am done with school.

NA to turbo conversion - questions and answers...
FlatBlack replied to mikeatrpi's topic in Turbo / Supercharger
Mobius! I sent you the link so you would read it, this is kind of turned into his build thread. Either search or go to the MEGASQUIRT part of the forums, there are beaucoup threads on it. Please please search. -
Hold on let me find you a couple more threads http://forums.hybridz.org/announcement.php?f=93&a=2 Please actually read it, I know its long but if we try to abide by the rules it keeps the site professional and then one day you can pass on the knowledge to someone else And yes I am excited about my turbo swap, I probably couldn't do it without information from this site.

I didn't see any pictures of a P79, I pulled mine off today, so here are the shots *edit* I didn't realize how bad the quality of these pictures are, sorry!

That thing looks really clean. While I have no idea of the actual value of it, here is my thread where I asked about how a 360 in an S30 would be. Hope it helps. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=142677&highlight=found+dodge+360

Go here http://forums.hybridz.org/forumdisplay.php?f=70 and read all the stickies, its a good place to start. And you *can* do stock EFI, here is a write up about it. Once again though make sure you know what you're getting into, there were many random parts I didn't think about when I started collecting them for my turbo 'build.' http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=99620 I think reading that gave me a better understanding of what goes on with the turbo wiring. Don't give up about finding a ZXT, they'll show up eventually. About a month ago I saw two go for sale for really cheap in the same town a couple of hours away from me. Just be patient. [i waited a year until I found my first Z car]. Have fun reading! *edit* I also found this thread very helpful - he's doing the same thing we are talking about - a Turbo Flat Top F54/P79. He's not done yet but he's got great pictures of the tapped oil pan, etc. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=127833

EDIS is a Ford ignition system Megaqsuirt is one of the more popular 'stand-alone' ECUs on this site, you can purchase one at http://www.DIYautotune.com, it takes a lot of reading up before installation, be sure you know what you're getting in to. 'Plugging in' a ZXT ECU and doing the stock ZXT EFI swap is doable but not tunable. Oh, and please click the link in Challengers signature for your Turbo swap

Gotcha covered If you've been around the supercharged 3800s for a while, I figured you'd know the blower makes quite a bit of noise, even at idle. Well, at least the ones I have been around do. Have you found the N/A 3800 thread yet? I guess I'll look around a bit I would also like to see this done and what you are going to do with the S/C plumbing if you decide to go with it. *edit* searched "3800" and it was about 1/2 of the way down the first page http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=136291&highlight=3800

heh this was asked earlier today, and one of the moderators answered it... again: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=144679

Try the search button, a guy just recently finished up a N/A 3800 in an S30. I know the issues with the supercharger on the US Market 3800s is that in a rear wheel setup [like a camaro or Z] the intake side of the M90 hits the firewall. Holden made a special intake for the M90 so it wouldnt hit, but from what I hear they are hard to find or expensive. Good luck, I have thought about doing this as well

Somewhat serious street build

Are you using those ZX 6 spokes? I have a set laying around and they look really good blacked out... Its giving me ideas -
I tried to put a new head gasket in my old L28 as it had been leaking a little oil, and ended up cracking the block when I put the new head gasket in. I suppose the people who rebuilt it started the crack, and then I finished it off. Anyways, I got a motor out of a late '80 car, its an F54 with a P79. The car had 80,000 miles when I got it. It also started leaking a little oil when I put it in, so I decided to do another Head gasket swap since my car is down to a severed front diff mount. Today I got much done, cleaned the head and block off, ground down the GM tranny mount, and primed and painted the R/T mount, and port matched my shaved '75 manifold to meet the 240sx throttle body I put in for cable linkage [and MS later on] as I had some jerky throttle response I believe is due to crappy air as it hits the smaller mouth of the intake manifold. The PO of this motor broke 2 of the exhaust studs off in the head so hopefully tonight I will finish digging those out, and I still havent started tearing the rear end out. I really hope to be done tomorrow so I can drive the car this week, otherwise it will have to wait 2 weeks as I am going back to Baton Rouge for Mardi Gras next weekend. I will update this with some more pictures tomorrow, meanwhile, enjoy some pictures! Oh also the bolt for the GM mount came through the poly a bit at the bottom so I had to put two more washers up top. Anyone else had this problem? I'll ask Trumpet when I see him tonight. Roostmonkey I am so incredibly impressed with the quality of your welds... Thanks! [Also thank you so much 70z for selling me this mount and poly ] If you are thinking about buying one, do it! They're not around forever... P79 Head - I like it - alot. Primed R/T mount sans poly I also rethreaded all of the head stud holes It took FOREVER to trim that damn poly down, and it got all over haha Assembled!! Talk to you guys tomorrow...

I've been lurking for a couple months... I got really excited when I saw you had a video posted haha Honestly, it sounds wonderful. Good luck with the tune, Hopefully It will be on the road soon!

Look at the last picture - the seal has dug into the chamber. And if you drove it home like that the exhaust valve must have been hitting the displaced seal... Also if you are running a flat top piston and thats a P90, a stock head gasket would give you a 8.5:1 CR but a 1mm would put it at 8.7:1 *according to LEngine* You might have a different setup from stock sizes though. *edit* I just saw the engine was overbored so my comment doesnt apply Sorry about that, I hope you get it fixed soon. good luck

Perfect answer! haha

Advantages of a N42 Intake mated with a L28et?
FlatBlack replied to B00STDZ's topic in Nissan L6 Forum
This was my first attempt at a "custom" metal piece ever, so it is kind of a hack job. Hopefully it will give you some ideas, though. I ran the vacuum line for the FPR where it was supposed to be, and I have the actual regulator behind my Pallnet fuel rail. 240sx TB, cable linkage. http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh81/flatblack280/Shaved%20Intake/?action=view¤t=100_2452.jpg http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh81/flatblack280/Shaved%20Intake/?action=view¤t=100_2445.jpg http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh81/flatblack280/Shaved%20Intake/?action=view¤t=100_2470.jpg http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh81/flatblack280/Shaved%20Intake/?action=view¤t=100_2472.jpg Also, the 'sensor' hole behind the Throttle Body is your port for the cold start injector, I just tapped it and put a bolt with teflon tape in it. -
Did anyone open up the cover on your AFM? I did a motor swap last semester, my AFM's spring rate was too low and it wouldnt start because it was too rich. Very unlikely, but hey, it could happen.
-
Lookin' good there Gabe! Good luck with the reassembly...
-
Yeah I wasn't happy to see my brand new wheels/tires covered in ice... David you free this weekend? I need to take the Z out to your house for you to see it before I pull the head. It'll be down for a week or two [waiting for a R/T mount]
-
Yeah, I am still saving up for Megasquirt for my summer turbo project, and I need to pull my head soon as it's spitting a little oil out the filter side. Too much to do, too little time.
