  1. Yes look up JNJ's videos and you'll change your opinions about the 'stock R200' I agree, it took me a while [and quite a few suspension modifications] for me to feel comfortable with my S30's rear coming out. My Z31? I could drive that thing sideways all around town
  2. At the top of the page it says "site not quantified" and "Sparse Data - We have Sparse data for this site, so estimates are rough"
  3. ^ Haha same here! I thought we had a good group of University students [myself included] And I for one am not that wealthy.
  4. This might be my new favorite 'Z' picture. Zs and LS1s - Looks like you are making great progress. [And the red cars flares - nice.]

    z31 swap

And most of the things you listed, Hoov, would have to be bought for any swap if the car was N/A. I also understand you were being liberal, and turbo swaps always end up costing more than initial expectations, but I got my 240sx TB for $15 on ebay.
  6. Yes, sorry - I actually updated my "member's page" thread, and mentioned that I got the issue sorted. It was an incredibly dumb mistake and I don't quite know how I missed it. I have about 3 or 4 AFMs, so I usually adjust the spring rate [most people strongly advise against doing this] to get a good AFR as best I can on the stock EFI. This wasn't a problem in Baton Rouge, but up here in Northwest Arkansas the weather is really up and down in the Spring/Winter months. I stripped out the adjustment screw on one of my AFMs while trying to get it to run [and it wasn't running at that point] so I threw on another AFM. The only way the car would run was if I had the spring rate on the new AFM set all the way 'lean.' I pulled the dizzy and the dizzy had a gawdaweful amount of shaft play [both vertically and horizontally] so I swapped it out. After that, I checked my 'AFR' again [but manual adjusting the AFM position at half throttle] and the mix was waay lean. It was a dumb mistake, I should have checked that immediately after swapping dizzys, but I didn't and wasted a week. My dizzy rotor is set exactly 180* opposite of what it should be, I have no idea what I did, but it runs stronger than it ever has, so I suppose it is fine for now. I went on a spirited 2 hour cruise on Sunday and after I got home - nothing had leaked I'm very happy with my new head gasket.
  7. My car was doing the same thing. I installed a R/T mount last Sunday, and the rubber on the front of my lower front diff mount had completely severed. I believe RoostMonkey still has a few available.
  8. Dibs on the ECU please!! Looking to go with a Romulator on my 86 Z31T. And a driver's seat if it is in good condish. *edit* Crap. I need an 88 or 89 28 prong ECU. oh well.

    z31 swap

I just got an 86 Z31 Turbo and have been reading alot about them lately, and the aftermarket isn't there because the stock setup is a great platform for bolt on modifications. The stock ECU can be modified to run Romulator, just upgrade the turbo, plenum, injectors, etc. and you can make serious power for cheap. There is also plenty of room for an intercooler in the front. Z31.com is an awesome website.
  10. So, after a debacle with a timing issue after I got the motor back together, I finally got the R/T mount in. It is well worth the time/money spent on it. Shifting is butter. The front rubber on the lower diff mount had completely separated, and the diff was banging every time I shifted. I went on a very 'spirited' cruise today through the western most part of Northwest Arkansas with a few buddies of mine, the lead car was an 84 Supra [thanks Kim for the pics], there was a Jeta/Golf thing [sorry I'm VW retarded] on OZ Ultraleggers - a very nice car, my buddy Kevin's Malibu Chevelle that just got an LS1, and my 78 280Z on Tokico Springs and struts, Flat Top F54/P79, 11 lbs flywheel, 5 Speed, Rota RBs with 225/50/15 Yokohamas, etc etc. I had never really driven the car like this before, and after over 2 years of hard work it has really paid off. I still haven't put my new sway bar in the front yet, but hope to do it this week. The rear did not come out at all unexpectedly, I didn't plow in the front at all, and besides a little bump steer everything was amazing. I had to keep above 4k on the exits of turns to keep up with the LS1 Chevelle but otherwise I was happy with the L28, with the proper gears it just wants to run. Here are the pictures from today: [unfortunately my car was filthy]
  11. Found it using the HybirdZ search function Mikeatrpi has done it, this is his photo album of his swap. It was linked in his signature. http://z.modeltrainguide.com/gallery/view_photo.php?set_albumName=album62&id=IM003663 http://z.modeltrainguide.com/gallery/view_photo.php?set_albumName=album62&id=IM003686 http://z.modeltrainguide.com/gallery/view_photo.php?set_albumName=album62&id=IM003675
  12. I have a really old digital camera, these aren't the best quality, and they aren't cleaned up at all. I was hoping that my S30/Z31T photos would turn out well with the dusk lighting but it didn't work, and then half were blurry. A buddy's MKII Supra and my Z31T
  13. I am doing a turbo swap this summer but have always wanted a V8 in my S30. I am going to say you *might* be able do the swap for $2000 if you did everything yourself and found a really cheap V8 and tranny set up. The only problem with that is the V8 could be in as good a shape as your current L6. I would go ahead and buy the JTR book, it will give you a much clearer view of what you would have to do fabrication wise, and who knows it could let you make a better more educated decision on it.
  14. I just got my Z31T and I was going to put 'FLTBLK2' on the plates, but since I don't have 'FLTBLKZ' for the S30 yet It wouldn't make sense... That is really cool that you got that combo fairly easy. My buddy found a Euro plate on ebay for his euro'd out Passat - It says 'VW OHV 20 T ' or something like that, and his VW Passat is a 2.0 Litre Turbo.
  15. The R/T mount is in... It's fantastic I'd strongly recommend it. The S30 is back to DD status!
  16. Would you like to trade Valve covers maybe? Nice car.
  17. Here are the pictures : As soon as it is warm and the S30 is back up for Dailying, this will be getting a new timing belt, water pump, cam seals, and a manual boost controller. I drove to OKC to get this yesterday, and installed a 90 Maxima alternator [110 amps vs. stock 90] in the guy's driveway. It's hella fun. T Tops RAWK It will also be getting Z32 wheels and the back bumper will be getting some paint. The only other aesthetic mod will be something to get rid of the pignose in the front. New alternator:
  18. Is everything stock or is there a different turbo? How many miles?
  19. A Long Block L28 is a Long Block L28. You could even run a turbo motor in your car, the only difference between them on an N/A car would be compression. *edit* and distributors... Use the manifolds and sensors off of your 78 and you'll be fine. I'm running an F54/P79 out of a 1980 S130.
  20. Hey there Smokey, didn't know you've been on here since '06! This Saturday I am going to drive 3 hours to go trade my DD Honda for an 86 Z31 Turbo 5 Speed. The alternator is dead and I will be doing an alt swap in his garage. This should be an interesting weekend.
  21. I keep seeing beater S130s on Craigslist for really cheap, maybe if it is in the budget pick up another ZX? I daily a Honda FWD and automatic. Makes me really appreciate the Z.
  22. Try to find the LEngine.exe calculator, if you Google it you can find a copy. It's nice to see all the options in one place. Flat tops with an N42 is around 9.8, Flat tops and a P90 will be 8.5, which is the same size as a F54 flat top and P79 head [the stock N/A motor when they switched to the F54 block] Pre-F54 N/A block pistons and turbo pistons have the same -10CC dish, P79s and P90s both have a 53.6 CC chamber
