  1. From what I am hearing... I think it might be the mill scale... Thanks for the info.... (even though its still a PITA to get off ) Here is a few shots of one of the completed Choppers I did that was at the Easy Riders show in Charlotte last weekend.. It was black.... but.. still turned out very nice.
  2. Mine would idle... (installed a Haltech E6) haven't finished mapping it yet.. It is now in the barn. I had to move her while I build the 510 wagon project.. as soon as that is completed, I hope to get another shop built and start back on the Z.... I miss it
  3. I can get a pic later... but the stuff is dark gray, almost black.. a little thicker than paint and is pretty uniform... almost like it was put on there..
  4. Got a question... I have been doing the prep work on some Big Bear Chopper builds to be powdercoated... and there is something on the flat steel panels that has me puzzled... There is some type of coating on them that is extremely hard to get off.... When I put a 24 grit disc on it with a die grinder, its like eggs on teflon... it will hardly come off.... even sandblasting it is tough... any clue on what this stuff is ?????
  5. Has anyone tried to get the fan off a 240SX and see if it fits ?? It looks a little better aerodynamically than the originals..
  6. Nice ZX, I love everything about it... except the overuse of the hood louvers.... but they might be functional...
  7. 1 tip... If you buy or build.... you want something that will have some resale when you are ready to move on... Something that would be availible to a range of people... A 1 bedroom might be hard to sell later one... at least 2 and possible 3 if you can swing it... much easier to sell..
  8. After dealing with a underpowered 60 gallon compressor that my for waaay too long.. I finally opted for a compressor that will hopefully last me for a long time.. It finally arrived today.. crappy pic... almost dark when I took the picture. and Mike.... I liked the purple.. more different than the other colors...at least I didn't get a Pink one
  9. Is it me... or was the original GTR better ???? It just felt more realistic...
  10. Its so wrong... but sooo funny... "Home of Challenge Pissing" LOL !
  11. Block turned out pretty nice.. Hey Mike, how long did it take to get the L6 up to temp?? Speaking which... I am doing some trials to get powder to have that "cad" plated look. A local restorer wanted to see how close I could get it... They went in the oven tonight.. I'll post some pics hopefully tomorrow..
  12. For me it would be Ren and Stimpy... my avatar would be Mr Stimpson J. Cat.
  13. Hmm... lets see... I can't remember... but this post will show it.. Edit.... dayum... longer than I thought... Sep 2000 I must not post as much as many of the "old guys"
  14. Prismatic black !! .... that outta stand out on a block
  15. Those wheels would look so good done like these.. http://www.autoreview.ru/new_site/year2001/n08/volga/800/volga-16.jpg Maybe better with more spokes..
  16. Hammertone and textured powders work great on cast pieces..and parts that have pitting from previous rusting / oxidation. You wouldnt' really notice pinholes since the surface is not smooth.. Thats where they show up easily.. As for letting it outgas, on a piece of iron the size of a block it would be for a couple of hours... at least. And at temperatures around 500 deg or more for the outgassing "treatment".. Curing temps for the powders are usually in the 375-400 deg range and most normal powders are good for sustained temps at about 350 degrees. There are also other specialized powders that are good for higher temps.. Most powders you can buff out with rubbing and polishing compound to fix scratches... just a little more work than with paint.
  17. It can be done... however, with that being said there are some things that come along with it... First, cast items are the worst parts to coat... mainly because of the outgassing. Cast Aluminum and Cast Iron parts will outgas. The more oil and grime that has been around the particular piece and the porosity of the parts, the worse it will be. Hot tanking will help.. but you are almost guaranteed to have some pin holes in the coating with normal powders. There are some outgassing forgiving powders though.. just not in the rainbow of colors that normal powders come in.
  18. I have a question, father in law has a 1967 2 ton Ford truck with the split wheels. Where can I get a set of normal wheels or what pull offs would work with this thing?
  19. seen this one ?? http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4528224696516614147
  20. Nice looking car... most times kit built cars seem to have a little bit to desire on the asthetics.. popping noise seems to be the exhaust...
  21. Wow.... looks like too much fun.... Agreed about the song also... fits that video well..
  22. Merry Christmas especially to all the Santa Clauses that are up this late
  23. I'm willing to bet it has a slightly finessed run of the mill 350 in it... the Infiniti engine that it originally came in it would be mega bux..
