  1. After several phone calls to fire extinguished specialist, I have discovered that it's very difficult to find someone to refill a Halon type fire bottle. Apparently, the powers that be have decided Halon is destructive to our atmosphere and that production of Halon is no longer allowed. However, it can be recovered, stockpiled and then reused until the current supply is depleted. This sounds way to political for my "pee" brain to understand. Bottom line is that I shipped my bottle back to the manufactured in CA and for the tidy sum of $170.00 they will refill it. Ouch!
  2. BJ.........Are you trying to say something. Is that an insinuation? HaHa!!!
  3. Building a car is a lot like being self employed. It's not the "glamour picnic" that many would hope it to be. Tons of dedication and motivation are required. For me it's easier to plan the job at hand in segments and set goals to complete each segment. It's easy to become overwhelmed by the big picture way down the road. Find a friend who can provide a little help. Hang in there! Rome wasn't built in a day.
  4. This family's sadness touches my heart. She is not unlike the many other brave young warriors that have given their all to defend our freedom. I am and well be forever grateful.
  5. Alan, No fire thank goodness! Some dumba** inadvertently set off the system while working on the dash area. And man, was that a rush! For the first few seconds, I didn't realize what had happened and sheer terror struck. After which, I knew my wallet had just taken another racin' hit.
  6. I need to recharge my Safecraft 5# fire system bottle. I live in SC. Can anyone suggest where I can have this done other that shipping it to the manufacturer in CA?
  7. I really like your car. It should inspire many! Why did you install the alum. parts where the hatch meets the body at the rear?
  8. My zxt has auto climate control. Last winter, I didn't have any heat under boost and discovered a bad vacuum line at the carbon canister. After replacing the line all was well. Great heat and very cold ac when needed. Now that warm temps have arrived here in the South, my ac blows warm under boost. It's very cold at idle and off boost. Any ideas? I have read posts about converting to a manual climate control system but don't want to go that route. Is there a particular device that provides the climate control with vacuum while engine is boosting? Why would a change in exterior temps, ie: the arrival of Summer, effect the air conditioning?
  9. I've been using Superlites for several years on two different cars. They are a tried and proven, well made part with readily available replacement parts. What else could you want in a brake setup?
  10. JT1.....How does the unit connect to my power source? What type of connector is used?
  11. Data Logger Users Two of the most popular and affordable data acquisition systems for race cars that I have seen in use are the GX2 and the Traqmate. Both are GPS based, and are similarly priced. I have talked with satisfied users of both systems and would like to purchase one when the eagle lands again. Are there any opinions out there in HybridZ land as to why one system may be better that the other?
  12. Jon....Can you post a pic. of your "jack" point?
  13. This has been ask and answered many times......but I'll be nice. Print this picture and post it where you need it.
  14. The core/freeze plugs (How's that for politically correct diplomacy?) are easily removed by using a heavy screwdriver or punch. Just punch a hole in the center of the plug and twist it outward. It the plug moves back into the block you can grab it with pliers and pull it outward. If you plan to have the block dipped for cleaning, I would also remove the oil galley plugs. They are removed in the same manner. Your machinist can install new ones or you can do it yourself with the correct tool or by improvising by using a plug sized socket to tap them into place. It's not rocket science
  15. Carolina Motorsports Park was the perfect place to be yesterday. The sun was shining, temperatures reached the low seventies and there were many good cars on hand for The Turn One event. Jt1 was there with the bad a** white sbc 240 car. As usual he is the hot shoe! Member Mark brought out has new IMSA style, wide body, LS1 powered 240 track car for a first day shake down. This car has a list of goodies complete with dry sump and even though it was run at 80% for this test day............it is a very well driven rocket ship that will fly the "z banner" high. Just a few more bugs that need to be worked out and it will be aforce to be reckoned with here in the Carolinas! Good job Mark.
  16. Verrrrrrry Nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. Autometer tech support. When all else fails, ask the ones who know.
  18. I have been using Fidanza flywheels for a few years. Both are installed in high HP, high reving z cars and have experienced no problemos whatsoever.
  19. Have your "programed" the spedo per Autometer's instructions?
  20. February 27, 2008 Salisbury Post by Steve Huffman SPENCER — Richard F. Combs said that for anyone who has doubted that High Rock Raceway will come to fruition, he's got a little advice: Lay those concerns to rest. "We're there," Combs said Tuesday night. "The financing is in place. From here on, things are going to happen in a hurry." Combs, 60, of Atlanta, was named Tuesday as president and chief operating officer of the proposed Spencer raceway. He'll also invest a significant amount of money, he said, into the track that's to be built between U.S. 29 and Interstate 85 near the banks of the Yadkin River. Combs has an impressive resume. He's a director of First Charter Bank, which is headquartered in Charlotte, and in 1978 he founded Pureflow Ultraviolet Inc., an industrial ultraviolet technology application company. Combs sold the company in 2001 to a Canadian-based subsidiary of Danaher Corp. He's obtained national and professional racing licenses and qualified three times for the Sports Car Club of America's national championships. He was also a charter member and regular participant in the Shelby CanAm Pro Racing Series, an event founded by racing legend Carroll Shelby. "Rich brings so much racing experience that I don't have," said Dave Risdon, the racetrack's CEO and the driving force behind plans for its creation. "We couldn't be more pleased to welcome him to High Rock and have him become a key member of our team." The coupling almost didn't happen. Combs said that two years ago, he was in the process of planning a racetrack outside Atlanta that's similar to the one planned for Spencer. The track was to be called "Brookland's Circuit," based on the design of a British track by a similar name. Combs said the track was to be built along Interstate 20 west of Atlanta and said funding was in place. But Combs said much of that money was to come from European investors and at the last minute he pulled the plug on the project. "I just didn't feel comfortable with some of the funding sources," he said. "Being in the banking business, I know that it's very important to not just secure funding, but to know where that money is coming from." Combs said he shelved plans for his own track, then visited another Atlanta raceway one day. While there, he picked up a flyer advertising High Rock Raceway. The track is to be a nifty 2.15-mile road course, complete with 10 sharp curves, a similar number of dramatic elevation changes and a 2,400-foot straightaway. Combs said he was convinced of the track's success and immediately invested in one of the track-side condominiums that are planned for the raceway. He said that while visiting High Rock a few weeks ago, he and Risdon started talking. The two hit it off, Combs said. "Dave and I are on the same page," he said. "We see eye-to-eye on a lot of things." Combs said High Rock will succeed largely because of its location — a 45-minute drive from either the Charlotte or Greensboro airports. "You need a major airport within an hour's drive for one of these courses to be a success," Combs said. "The drivers who compete in these events fly in, spend a weekend or a day, then fly out. High Rock fits that criteria perfectly." He noted that the track's location in the heart of NASCAR country will also serve it well, though the drivers who compete on road courses are often vastly different from NASCAR's finest. "There's a tremendous market for this kind of racing," Combs said. "Lots of people across the Southeast want something like this so bad." He and Risdon say the track will cost about $30 million, money that they both insist is in place. Combs said major grading for the track will take place by June and asphalt will be poured in July or August. He said it's best to let asphalt cure for several months, so it may be next spring before High Rock hosts its first races. The adjoining condos, which will provide an overview of the entire track, should also be ready by then, Combs said. He said he'll be moving to Rowan County to be a full-time part of the venture. Combs said Spencer and the rest of Rowan County will benefit from the economic boost the track provides. "It's going to be a boom to the economy," Combs said. "It's going to generate a lot of tax revenue. There's going to be a lot of people, a lot of money." --------- If anyone has any questions feel free to email me at smb@racehighrock.com I am a NASA Spec Miata racer as well as the VP of Development for High Rock Raceway.
