  1. John, Good find! Now I really have a jones. She really did a good job. Her friends mentioned "trying to fix", it, but we know she was just along for the ride after all four were on the grass at 100mph. It's been a number of weeks without being on track and Barber is still a month away. Sure you and Mark won't change your minds and join us?

I wanted to post this message in Announcements, but I was not allowed??? ------------------------------------------ The Cape Fear Z Club, in Wilmington NC, will be having their annual Oyster Roast And Z Show this coming Saturday September 15th. Starting at 5 PM, on Figure 8 Island, NC. Tickets for club members are $15 and non members will pay $25. There will be lots of good food and z people to hang out with.   4. Used NASCAR oil coolers could equal metal fragments in cooler from previous user. Buying a new one may be a better investment for your new engine. My Setrab part # 50-920-7612 is approx. 13" x 6" . Its plumbed at the oil filter, mounted up front with an oilstat, and keeps oil tems where they should be.
  5. I have been buying and using auto and motorcycle helmets for many years and really don't know much about them. Most people I talk to about this subject, seem to have the same level of knowledge. Most of us prefer one brand or another, but with no real good reasons why, except the particular brand is the one they are accustomed to using. Today's rating requirements would suggest that we should purchase a Snell SA-2005 or better helmet for auto racing purposes. I have always purchased the more recognized brands like Simpson, Impact, G-Force and so on. There are so many helmet manufacturers out there and the price varies from less than $200.00 to $1500.00 all for helmets that have the exact same safety rating of SA-2005 and all promise high quality, comfortable fit, etc. Yes, they differ by the material used to construct, like carbon fiber or un-named composites, or by the type of venting systems used, but do they really vary in how safe they are and the level of protection they provide? Is a basic, white, composite helmet, without air induction inlets, or other bells and whistles, from maker "A" that sells for the lowest price any mor safe or better than the one that cost many times that amount?
  6. Easy done.....Wrap with most any kind of tape over the cut off point and cut through the tape and the an hose with razor knife. Cut slowly and carefully.

  8. SYNERGYN Syngear II Gearlube works well in the Borg gear boxes and LSD rear ends. It is recommended by G Force Transmissions and by Quaife Differentials. You can purchase it on Ebay.

  10. Congratulations to JT1. His bad a-- z car was the class of the event at Carolina Motorsports Park this weekend. John received the top honor, "FTD" for both Saturday and Sunday. Sometimes he just makes it look easy and gives us slow guys a target to aim at. Perhaps someday when I grow up, I will be that fast.
  11. Mike, I installed a Quaife with 354 gears coupled with the GForce using the following ratios. 1st-2.94, 2ed-1.94, 3rd-1.34, 4th-1.00, 5th-.90. With 265-45-15 rubber and limiting my revs to 7K, mathematically, I top out at 150 in 4th and 166 in 5th. On the long back side at VIR, I will short shift into fith at about 6500 and then pull for a short distance before the lefthander. At that point I'm real busy just hanging on and that's about as fast as I want to be going in a 2400 lb z car. I like the higher geared 354 because I'm boosted. You na guys may benefit from a lower ratio and more rpms. The 354 gives me a fast 3rd ( 112 mph) that seams to work well for me but as we know, there is no perfect ratio that will work at all the tracks. I haven's used the new gears at CMP yet but I will be able to try them this weekend. The old 370 rear with a nissan gear box, had too low in rpm in 2nd and 3rd at CMP, but the new setup should give me better lap times. As Mark mentioned, I had custom axle shafts made that are 7/8" shorter that the stock lsd ones. This enabled me to run the axles in the original position, without reversing the ends, which I believe, was causing binding and cv failure under heavy compression. The installed lenght of the new shafts is 1/2" shorter the the reversed end setup. Now, all seams to be fine and dandy back there. To be continued.

  14. Michael How much more expensive - and how much busier - is the larger tunnel? I don't remember what the cost was to rent the other tunnel but I do remember the operator saying it was booked for the next 14 months. That place is a revolving door with one NASCAR team after another. One of Todd Bodine's trucks was being unloaded on the afternoon we were there. I noticed that it had several bulges in the sheet metal work, towards the rear of the cab on each side, that had been taped in place for testing. The operator said these teams were very secretive about what they were doing and usually arrived at the tunnel with unmarked cars and haulers. They normally bring there own engineers and do they own thing with out the help of tunnel personnel.
  15. Well put, Titanium. Had we tested a "slammed low" car, I doubt the results would have been very useful to most members. Yes, low is better, but most of us need to drive our cars on streets with obstacles that would be hard on a 2" high front nose. Event track guys with trailers need to be able to load and unload with out dragging the front end. We really need an easily attached and removable front air dam/splitter. Perhaps Titanium can design one. If so, I'm in!
  16. I have owned all the z cars except a 350 and I suspect one will appear in my shop some day. My z32 is a tt and has been with me since 1990. It's 30k plus miles have seen may road courses and much abuse. But my baby has now been retired to a life on the street. It puts more than 400 hp to the ground and is a super fun ride. In a straight line and from sixty mph on up, it can hang with most. I will admit that having gone through engines and many other knuckle busting exercises has not all be fun, but all in all, it's a great car that I plan to have around until I'm too stupid to appreciate it. Nissan has yet to make a bad z car. I'm still in love with them all.
  17. I'm using AZC front arms and TC rods. They are really well made and have allowed me the adjustability I needed to make my cars handle better ever. I think they are by far, on the top of the list of all arms on the market today.

  22. I finally spoke to someone at Synergyn Oil Company and I was told that although Synergyn Oil does not advertise or speak of a maximum operating temperature in their product literature. Synergyn II Synthetic Gear Oil has been put to the practical test in most forms of racing, including NASCAR and off road racing, that see extremely high operating temperatures (over 300 degrees for extended time periods) and have not experienced any problems related to the product itself. They do recommend frequent oil changes when used in differentials and transmissions that see extreme temperatures. Both Quaife and and G Force recommend Synergyn II gear oil to be used in their products.
