  1. Road course cars that are naturally aspirated seem to cool ok with the bottom blocked off and even with the sides of the top closed in. However, if you are running a turbo and making some decent hp number you will really need to plan and try different ways to seal up the front end. After you add an oil cooler and an intercooler down there, things get real hot very fast, especially in the summer. You will need a good radiator (good = expensive) and some well thought out blocking and directing of the air to keep things cool and provide a good intake supply. I've been playing trial and error with mine for two years and I'm gaining on it but still not there!
  2. I have a few HF die grinders, their heat gun and some jack stands. They seam to be ok although I have had second thoughts when lying under my car with my life limbs being protected by brand "X" stands. My most recent purchase was an air body saw that committed tool suicide within the first minute of use. But, that's what twenty bucks gets you! All in all, most HF stuff is very low quality and as stated above; we only get what we pay for and the free lunch line is too long to stand in. When you buy the good stuff, you ride in style!

  4. As much as I hate to admit it, my welds looks very similar and that's why I'm usually nice to Roddy at Speed Design Inc. No one really likes him, but he can weld. Perhaps some of that new "fire proof" bondo could be used to smooth out the welds before painting it!

I've been in the RE and construction biz for about 30 years and have bought and sold most types of residential, commercial, multi unit rental properties, developed land and built many homes and buildings over the years. Yes, the present market is very depressed and banks are reluctant to lend if speculation is involved on the borrower's end. However, during the past few years, many "newbie" investor types purchased commercial and residential rental properties with highly leveraged money and are struggling to make payments on these properties. Many of these properties have been foreclosed on by lenders and are being resold at very reasonable prices. IMHO, the time to purchase most any type of real estate hasn't been this good in many years. If you intend to invest for five years or more, and are not trying to make a quick buck, the returns should be very, very lucrative.

OUOTE: "Does it have any sort of seat compatibility issues?" It looks like it would fit most any race seat that was sold as "Hans" compatible. NOTE and IMHO: Another thing I liked about this device was it's apparent ability to keep your shoulder harnesses in place, perhaps even better than my Hans. My only dislike was its ugly, iridescent, fire fly green color.
  7. The Defnder head and neck restraint was on display at last months PRI show. I inspected it very closely and found it to be well constructed, certainly as easy to attach to the helmet and weighed abouth the same as the Hans and was down and dirty priced at the $499.00 show special. If I didn't already have a Hans, I would but it today. Now I'll preach..........IMHO we devote too much of our track budget to going faster and too little to be more safe. This Defnder retails for about what two decent race tires would cost and could prevent a very serious, or even worse event from happening. It's all fun and games till the hammer drops on your toe!
  8. I've been running Michelin tires for many, many years on my trucks ranging from small pick ups to monster Peterbilts and they are the tits. Spend more and get more. There are no free lunches.

  11. 56 Bel Air 265 v8. After Installing 348 big block it was a tire smoking, straight line, death defying rocket ship that somehow I survived.
  12. My 82 turbo car came from Montana and has a block heater with female 110 volt connector terminating at the front bumper.

  14. I agree with the comments above about the cummins diesel engines. They have proven to be one of the best every produced for light trucks and are certainly capable of towing your loaded trailer. However, if you guys are getting 17-18 mpg or as posted above by mark.deady, 24+ mpg when loaded, I wish you would share your secret to great fuel mileage. My 03 Dodge 3500 duley can deliver 18-20 mpg when driven very "gingerly" and not pulling a trailer. My best mileage when pulling a 24' inclosed, v-nose trailer and z car is 12 mpg on flat interstate highway at 70 mph. So......what's the secret?

  18. Johnc's advice is the most practical in this situation. Cut the shaft to fit and get a quality quick release. The better ones cost more but have splines on the shaft unlike the 5 or 6 sided ones that allow the wheel to shake. Sparco makes the best one I've seen but their not giving it away.
  19. My pedals and cylinders are Wilwood. The cylinders and reservoirs are mounted under the cowl. I doubt this could work if I had wind shield wipers.

  21. UPDATE: Smoking On Deceleration. I decided to pull the head and do a valve job and have the turbo checked by Garrett. The turbo was still at factory spec and didn't need anything. The head work was not a bad idea but really didn't need to be done except as routine maintenance. I was using some coolant and the new Kameari head gasket seemed to take care of the water issue. After a little tuning on the dyno and looking at the Electromotive system, we discovered a bad throttle position sensor that was sending false readings and dumping lots of fuel into the system on deceleration. The smooking and eye burning exhaust fumes are gone!
  22. UPDATE: QUOTE: I installed a . 5 gallon surge tank on my firewall under the bracing. I do have safety concerns due to having it in the engine bay and may move it to the rear whenever I decide the best way to fit it. Those nice welds did not hold up. One split and gas was pouring through the firewall and on to the passenger side floor. This was a recipe for disaster. I was on track when it happened, hit the kill switch and nervously waited for the tow vehicle to drag me in. A FIREWALL MOUNTED SURGE TANK IS AN UNSAFE AND BAD IDEA!
  23. Yes, it posable, but why would you want to? If you are having trouble "stretching" the timing chain up enough to get gear on the cam, the tensioner has probably popped out of it's hole and is now lodged between the chain and the guide making it difficult for you to do what you are attempting. Suspend a small light down inside the cover and take a close look at what's going on.
  24. After enduring the togetherness wars for more than a quarter century, my significant other accepted my car addiction many years ago, and is probably more content when I'm lost in my shop affairs and not bugging her. You really need to work on what's needed and proper maintenance is a must to keep a good relationship and a good car running smooth.
