good "stand alone" pcm edit? please help!
Bartman replied to 2500lb Tuxedo's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I'm not entirely sure of what you're asking, but I'll give it a shot. In general the stock PCM program will work fine for a stock engine. I believe the one thing that my PCM gets from my T56 is the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS), does the T5 have a VSS or can you put one on it? The other issue you may have is with the Vehicle Anti-Theft Sytem (VATS), you may have to have this programmed out if you con't use the donor ignition. Did you win a reprogram of your PCM or the software to reprogram your own PCM? -
Sounds like a pretty good run...especially for the size tires your running. I'm going to have to make it out there one of these days and give it a try myself.

LT1 Died...no PCM when cranking

The fuel pressure gauge sits on top of the fuel rail connected to the stock schrader valve. -

Thanks Gary. There are many resources out there with LT1 info, but while I was trying to debug my problem I found so many threads that would describe something similar to the problem I was experiencing...and end without a resolution. Hopefully anyone running into a similar problem will find this thread and get some useful information on what to check and what actually fixed the problem being reported. I still think the opti gets blamed for issues that have nothing to do with it, but when the opti is the problem it is difficult to pinpoint. Hopefully I'll get plenty of good use out of the improved (and cheaper to boot) Accel opti. I'm surprised how often I do searches on Yahoo for LT1 information and find a post here on HybridZ...sometimes my own threads. -

I was waiting for you to say something...but I'm still happy with having all the sensors, fuel injection, and yes...even the optispark. BTW - I'm going to keep buggin' you until you tell me when you're racing so I can show up. I think the fuel problem wasn't what kept it from running. Although it appears that the fuel pump needed to be replaced, it wasn't bad enough to keep the engine from starting. The fuel pressure gauge that I installed to check my pressure had a small leak, so it made the problem look worse than it was. I was planning on keeping the gauge installed, but if I can't get it to stop leaking I'll have to leave it off. -

I got the Accel Opti installed tonight and I gave it a quick test before I put everything back together to see if it would fire up. Well it barely cranked (battery is still low), but that was all it needed and she breathed fire again. I shut her down almost immediately because I don't even have the water pump and accessories reinstalled (it ran just the way it is in the attached pic). The old Opti didn't feel right when I removed it, so I was pretty confident that the new one would do the trick...and it did. I may have to pull the old one apart to check it out. I just need to get everything buttoned back up and give her a test run. Thanks to everyone for their advice. -
Congrat's! My kids are both pretty into my Z now. I can't hardly take my car anywhere without my youngest daughter wanting to go along (as long as I don't drive too fast), and I think I accidently addicted my older daughter to speed. The first time I took her out she would screem every time I hit the gas, now she wants me to jump on it and just smiles when I put it a little sideways here and there.

I think the front end looks pretty neat; nice and clean. I'm not that into the rear taillight panel, but maybe it will look better when it's done.

I got the new fuel pump on Monday and completed the installation last night. I have good fuel pressure, but it's still not starting. I haven't installed the new opti yet, so that's what I'm going to do next. -
It doesn't appear to be a hybrid...the ad says it's an original 914-6. It does look like a nice car though. I used to have a 2.0 914 and it was a really good car.

I think I know what it is...it's the chrome trim on the bottom (or front lip)of the hood. It's also looks like it has a curvature with the center and possibly the edges being lower. At first I thought it was wierd with what looks like a shadow from the gable end of a house geing centered on the hood of the car...then I figured out it's just flat black paint.

Best brake upgrade for the buck?
Bartman replied to gvincent's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
For a really tight budget you can just ensure that your current system is working properly and upgrade your pads. The next level would be to upgrade the fronts to use the Toyota S12 calipers on your stock rotor or go with S12W on upgraded vented rotors. The first upgrade for the back would be something like one of the links you posted with 240SX, Maxima or ZX rear disk brakes. Personally, I think If you've got the money to upgrade to an LS1 you should leave enough to upgrade the brakes as well. I went with the S12W's up front, ZX disks in the back and a ZX master cylinder as well. -
Quick~! I am buying a Z car tonight G35 or a 350z
Bartman replied to 240ZR's topic in Non Tech Board
If you have to get a car tonight, I agree the G35 is a better car than a 350Z. If you can wait a little bit, the 07 has significant upgrades over the current model. -
Anyone watch Pinks Last night ?
Bartman replied to jnjdragracing's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
They bought the car back form the winner. I didn't see this episode last night, but hopefully I'll catch it on the rerun. The online listing from my cable company usually lists diferent match-ups from what is actually being shown. -
Did some weight reduction to my LS2!

Wow, that is a lot of material! I'll look forward to seeing what difference that will make on your numbers. -
Very nice. I'm getting close to body work and paint and was wondering what process your using. It looks like you have most everything apart, but the last pic looks like you painted the jambs. Are you planning on painting the car together or apart?

My fuel pressure read around 23 PSI when the pump was running and then went to zero within a few seconds of it stopping. The PCM only turns on the pump for a couple of seconds when the ignition is turned on, but it shouldn't lose the pressure when it shuts off. I read that if the pressure drops quickly then it's most likely the check valve in the pump. -

I found a direct fit replacement fuel pump from Full Throttle Speed for $139.99. Anyone have any experience with them? The pump assembly uses a Walbro pump. They have them on eBay as well as from their website. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1999-2002-LS1-F-Body-DIRECT-FIT-Fuel-Pump-Kit-WALBRO_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33555QQihZ006QQitemZ160039422166QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW I've got the fuel bucket from my 2001 Trans Am fuel tank removed already, so now I just need to get a new pump and put everything back together. that240guy, Congrats an completing your LS1 swap, and your offer for help. I hope I've got this problem figured out, but we'll have to see. -
I'm shocked and saddened, and my condolences to his friends and family. Live life to your fullest, you never know when something like this is going to happen. You don't have to tempt fate, but don't shy away from living either.

Thanks for the offer Danno. I have the VATS disabled in the computer, but I think it would still start and then die shortly afterwards. I'll let you know if I want to give that a go, but I'll give the opti a try first and see how that goes. I've also got the fuel pressure gauge yesterday, so I'll hook that up and see if I'm in range.
