  1. Just buy a new water pump they are like $20. For the head gasket, depending on your mechanical background they can be easy, or hard. My first one took me almost a whole day, then half a day, now i can probably do it in like 2-3 hours. Just chock the timing chain or your life will suck. Knowing if the water pump is dead can be as easy as trying to turn the pump by hand, to not knowing until you take it off. If you have a lot of miles on the car and the water pump looks just as old I would replace it anyway since it probably will need one sooner or later.
  2. Does it sputter or hit a fuel cut? Can you describe how it acts after 4k? Also stock EFI right?
  3. Someplace on the front cover or possibly the head gasket.
  4. If your oil pan gasket is still decent and doesn't fall apart, I would just use some rtv gasket stuff over. I dropped the chain tensioner in there once and only had like 5k miles on my rebuilt motor and that's what I did. 20k miles later and still no problems. Now if you were in dire need of replacing the oil pan gasket anyway, then you should just do that.
  5. I used to just never buy food that I couldn't eat before hand so I would never really bring food into my car. It even got to the point that I would bring around my own water bottle so that I would only get food. Saved me some money and was healthier. Cans of soda used to fit in the ashtray of my 260z perfectly, and my 280zx now has one of those cup holder things.
  6. When I get out of France and back into the USA. Can't wait I will be on US soil in a week
  7. did you ever fix this? or are you still DD the 260?
  8. do you have a spec list for the 510?, it would help a little, but mostly I just want to know how you got that low
  9. That is totally acceptable. Get those cylindrical K&N filters that bolt up to each carb and just cut out the air horn and bolt pattern portion. Just bolt that up along with the air filter. Or you can always buy the fancy looking airhorns that are made for the SU's
  10. uhm you can, but mine was loud as crap when I drove to the shop with open headers. People were looking from like half a block away. Also my shop says " if it shows up with a cat, it leaves with a cat and vice versa"
  11. if the exterior of the body appears straight, and the swap if running in a good enough condition to daily drive then yes that's a great deal. Replacing the floor pans is a common thing (although I've never done it) and you can even buy the floor pans, then bring the car to a welder to just cut and weld the pans in place. I would highly advise against "capping" it. I don't even know what that means. I would fix it right because I have personally seen a car "bend" from being jacked up and the rust was bad enough in the floors and rockers.
  12. I'm still convinced the easiest way is a custom pedal box just for your clutch. But I'm the kind of guy that doesn't like putting more holes into the firewall. I don't remember how much space you had in the foot area though. Just curious, but do you ever make it out the cars and coffee in Irvine? I feel like you would enjoy it. Very relaxed environment and I'm sure your triumph would fit in well.
  13. lol 5 or 6 raging bitches. Do you have any shots of your nsx?
  14. I was thinking that too, but I've seen them mounted on the side and it looks awfully cluttered mostly from the steep angle of the window and the depth of the dashboard. I was actually thinking about trying to mount them on top of the dash in a dual pad angled towards me.
  15. Your car is sexy, I'm sure you won't stop getting compliments anytime soon. Love the blue
  16. Finding a place to mount the pedal and brake MC is going to be the hardest part. A custom clutch line can be made fairly easily (Luky's Hardware on Burbank Blvd can make a custom line with the fittings you need) and making a custom driveshaft is simple too, there is a driveshaft shop in North Hollywood off of Chandler (there is a better one that TonyD knows of somewhere in LA). Just bring the old driveshaft for the part that matches with your diff, and bring the 5 speed driveshaft and measure out how much you need taken off (or added). You will 99.999% need a custom length driveshaft unless you know you are using a specific datsun driveshaft. Some very thorough pictures from multiple angels of your engine bay firewall would help us help you plan where the clutch MC should be placed. I wouldn't doubt you may need to make a custom pedal box for it though with your description.
  17. For the love of god don't buy anything from him (datsunpartsLLC). He has a nasty rap, just do a quick search on this site. Order ITM pistons from someone else
  18. Don't bother with the piping from MSA. Just go to a local muffler shop, check out their quality, and just have them do the piping. It will be cheaper for pretty much the same exact thing.
  19. That looks great, I've seen a few roller jobs but they were half assed. I didn't think it could come out so smooth.
  20. I'm guessing you have the auto climate control. Mine was like this, but in addition it was never warm air. Before you start you do know that there is a mess of vacuum tubes that control everything behind the dash. Check the FSM for a diagram of the ventilation system. That would be a good place to start.
  21. I'd take it if it drives and runs to your liking. I'd also check the floats in the carbs really quick to see if he has them band aided or not. Rebuilding the carbs isn't cheap. You could also check the cam by just removing the valves cover and looking for a stamp. i'd think you'd come up in this situation,
  22. is your idle screw maxed in or out? either way check all your vacuum lines, then clean all the connections, then check/replace any sensors.
  23. sounds like a lose vacuum line somewhere, or possible a sensor that is misreading and causing the computer to dump more fuel. Do you have any smoke out the back?
  24. John, is there any way to reasonable correct that understeer with adjustable suspension like changing camber, or is there anything you can do to the front tires to counteract this? I am thinking that what you said is more of a rule of thumb and would just like to know more.
  25. How much hp are you making? and what suspension are you running? Lastly when you get these tires will they be for looks or actual track/autox time. Note I didn't say performance, I said track/autox time. You will get more rubber if you go 275's all around, but you will also gain weight. That is why I ask the above questions. I know SunnyZ put 275's all around.
