  1. Chromoly is 4130 alloy steel. It's pretty commonly used for lots of things that require light weight and high strength.
  2. Ordering those brackets still requires you to purchase 1) Their rear end cover to mount them to 2) The diff itself 3) A custom driveshaft 4) Custom axles. 3&4 aren't offered by anyone, but you could go to a shop that builds axles and driveshafts and using proper measurements that you'd have to take yourself, give to them. If anything, that's the LEAST straight forward option. Meanwhile...https://technotoytuning.com/nissan/240z/complete-r200-r230-rear-end-conversion-z-car They walk you through everything you'll need and nearly everything is included. It's sorta spendy, but if you're looking at high torque numbers, it's probably a good way to go short of straight axle install.
  3. How do we donate to the site?
  4. The stock tank won't work. 1)Modify it (add baffles, add pump, add correct ports) 2)Get a new EFI friendly tank 3)Run a swirl pot/surge tank, in which case you'll still need to run a low pressure fuel pump from it anyway just to keep it full of gas. All options have their pros and cons.
  5. What that guy did was the most time intensive and questionable route around a problem that there is a clear answer for. The crossmember he made looks quite bad and puts way too much stress on a welded joint. I really hope it doesn't break...but I'm not gonna be surprised if it does. CX Racing already makes a rear sump pan that's only $465 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rear-Sump-RB26DETT-RB26-Aluminum-Oil-Pan-For-Nissan-Datsun-S30-240Z-260Z-280Z-/390890791671 Unless you value your own time at worthless and have easy access to materials and are a really good welder, I don't see any good reason to not just run a rear sump pan.
  6. The hardest part I'm thinking about this is what the front crossmember not only holds the engine up, but also the suspension and steering rack. Moving the steering rack fore or aft changes steering kinematics and unless you want to also customize the front knuckle to get it closer to what it was (assuming you've got a really good understanding of desinging steering systems) it's probably gonna be a lot of work. Can you notch out the front sump if it's suppose to rest? Looking at a picture of an RB26 in a S30 with a rear sump pan really doesn't look like there's much room to have anything up front.
  7. Anywhere from 9-30k. High end: http://bringatrailer.com/listing/1973-datsun-240z-23/ Low end: http://bringatrailer.com/listing/1974-datsun-260z-3/ Who really knows why there is such discrepancy.
  8. That is beautiful. Well done good sir.
  9. Free shipping is always better though $355 2 wheels Rota RKR 15x9 Offset:0 https://www.amazon.com/PCS-ONLY-ROTA-WHEELS-15X9/dp/B01N15JOMC/ref=sr_1_6?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1492793450&sr=1-6&keywords=rota+rkr+15x9+offset%3A0 $199(x2 = 398) 1 wheel Rota RKR 15x9 Offset:-15 https://www.amazon.com/ROTA-RKR-WHEELS-15X9-PCD/dp/B00UZQSKMY/ref=sr_1_8?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1492793531&sr=1-8&keywords=rota+rkr+15x9+offset%3A-15 355+398= $753 or 599+259= $855 I know the offset isn't 100% the same, but if that 5mm won't matter to you, it's 100 bucks difference.
  10. If you're gonna drop the money on the TTT rear end, I'd use the 300zx twin turbo or the Q45 rear. The main benfit of the Q45 is that it's usually cheaper, and easier to find in U-pick lots. The main benefit of the 300zx TT is that you're bumping up to the R230 rear end, which means you can run as much power as you realistically want. That being said, the shortnose R200 on the Q45 did just fine pushing around a much heavier car than our S30's that was also powered by a V8. You'd need a whole lot of power to destroy one of those. Plus the lower gear ratio can be nice depending on your transmissions final drive and if you don't want to have to shift into 3rd to hit 60 if that's important to you.
  11. Project creep is a devastating thought process for these cars. It's best to just pick one thing and focus on it until that one thing is done. Otherwise you spend all your time focusing on how it's ALL going to go together and you never actually get anything done because you keep changing things in your mind and starting from scratch every single time. Congrats on the buy though! That's a sweet car.
  12. Did you put the frame rails on top of the the new floor pans?
  13. Because they're niche markets of niche markets. Realistically, lets say he does get these created (hopefully he does), how many is he going to sell? That's a lot of time spent creating something to not make a ton of money off of. It would be one thing if there was no other solution out there, but there are other diff/lsd/cv axle solutions out there.
  14. Also check Amazon if you're going after RKR or RB wheels. Sometimes they have the best pricing and a lot of the time you can get free shipping.
  15. Depends on what you mean by better. A surge tank set up will reduce fuel starvation better than an in tank fuel pump, even with baffles. An in tank pump will probably be cheaper though. External pumps can also be loud. Of course you could put the pump IN the surge tank and that would reduce noise of it like these guys do. http://www.radiumauto.com/FST-R-Fuel-Surge-Tank-with-Integrated-FPR-P348.aspx You'd need a low pressure fuel pump to feed the high pressure fuel pump as well however.
  16. We still haven't seen how an S30 with an RB engine swapped into it will fair on this new market either. A 2JZ or an S52 is bound to piss off a buncha salty jerks, but the RB is still Nissan. The only ones that will be offended at that point are the old guys who view anything other than bone stock is a travesty. It'll be fun watching how the V8 swapped one does though.
  17. I was planning on using this https://www.amazon.com/Noico-deadening-automotive-Insulation-dampening/dp/B00URUIKAK Noico 80 insulation (google it if the link doesn't work) It sticks pretty well to things and isn't very expensive either.
  18. Are any of these things you adjust often? If not, then why make them adjustable? Put them where the car handles best and hard mount them.
  19. could you just dye them black as well, or use a black vinyl paint? I was looking into doing that because it's an order of magnitude cheaper than getting new interior. I havn't seen any pictures of that done before though.
  20. That's really no ones business other than his and the sellers. Congrats on the pickup of a nice car. When you say interior overhaul, what are your plans for it?
  21. AH HA! I probably should have clicked on that imagine. Very cool looking.
  22. The car WILL be better with the TTT setup. Do you need to do that? No. Should do you that? Well that's up to you and your budget. However, considering you don't seem to know that the 280z came with an R200, I'd assume you don't know a crazy amount about the S30, and really need to start reading through a lot of other peoples build threads, and not just on the engine.
  23. Is that screen plastic or some sort of metal?
