  2. My wife just picked up a '08 GTI w/DSG. Lots of fun. They fall apart relative to other Japan competitors, but a great buy nonetheless.
  3. Ah hahaha, I think it has more to do with the first guy looking at his cell phone and not noticing the green, the second guy waits for the guy in front of him to get moving before even letting off the brake, same for the third, fourth, etc.

As a weird exception to this, a month or so back I was driving in my somewhat low 280Z, and on two separate occasions on that same trip people turned off their headlights altogether when they were behind me at lights. All I did was turn my rearview into night mode, and after they saw this, I guess, they turned off their lights. Turning back on after the light was green and I was further away. So, there is hope.

  6. It never seemed to be this bad--but I suppose I am driving at night more often in the city as opposed to the highway, so I see more people rather than just sitting in a moving group. When I do slow down to try and persuade them to change lanes and go around me, if they were behind me, i take a peak inside and it always just looks like some otherwise normal person who just decided, "well, hey, in this mode the lights are brighter! Why would you ever want them in the other mode?!" In other words, completely oblivious to the whole existence of other people on the road... And this is in my Nissan Pathfinder, which isn't exactly a low vehicle.
  7. At least in TX, failure to dim highbeams is a traffic offense. I wish I saw more police officers actually enforcing it. As well as the HID modifications which aren't legal either. But so few officers, so many other things to pull people over for I guess.
  8. I'm tempted to get a 1 gazillion candlepower flashlight and give them a good flash or two when they go by. As a passenger, of course. But that would probably just confuse them.
  9. Is it me.... or was there a large increase in the past year or so of people driving around in city traffic with their brights on all the time? There are also a lot more people with HIDs in their halogen housings, which also blind me, but I can usually tell the difference. I just see people driving around lit roads with their headlights blinding me a lot more than I used to. If they happen to be behind me, I have been able to peer into their cockpits to verify that their dash has the blue highbeam indicator lit. They also seem to be the type that drive with there mouth open... So, completely oblivious that their brights are even on? They just don't realize that the angle and intensity of high beams is distracting and annoying to oncoming traffic (and even people in front of you going the same way!)? What gives?
  10. Since I'm on my phone there are no sigs by default. Let me put it this way: I've bounced 5 cars with MS and fuel cut only off the rev limiter, not all day long but enough. They didn't explode. Bouncing off the rev limiter isn't the greatest thing to do in the first place. Which is probably why you don't see lots of "facts" about it, especially since it depends wildly on the tune and engine and car. So set it and try it. You're never going to know for sure until you try it on your car.
  11. All that I've worked with that relies on coil output for tachometer use, uses only fuel cut. If your injectors aren't leaking, you won't blow your motor up from a lean condition. No fuel isn't a lean condition, it's a no combustion condition. If you are so worried, turn on Spark and Fuel cut (might be an MS-Extra setting only, though). I prefer spark cut because it makes cool noises.

  15. Yeah it was about 900 for each of us round trip DFW to LUX and back, 15 days. We're leaving before Summer I, I think (or was it Summer II...). I suppose I'll have to ask the Mrs. if this is okay before I go around offering.
  16. Come with me and the GF/fiance/wife to Europe this summer. Pay your plane ticket and for a meal or two and you'll have a place to stay and crap to do. Luxembourg (home), Paris, Belgium and Germany are on the list. I want to go see some more castles and make the owner/operator some ridiculous lowball offers in horrible French. No tests or homework.

  19. The AFM also has a IAT embedded in it. But yes, it still is limited. I bet you can find 20hp just putting in 91, advancing the timing, and retuning with Megasquirt--everything else bone stock air filter to tail pipe tip.
  20. I'm about ready to take it off. I just had it to protect my new fuel pump. Now that I've replaced the tank, it seems to stay pretty clean. Just need to find straight piece to join the two ends. The glass is pretty thick though. The plastic hose ends are crap; they need tons of pipe tape to keep from leaking. It was $10...
  21. Installed the headers this past weekend. I got the OE manifold off without taking the intake off. However, my plan to sneak the 6-1 header up from the bottom failed when I realized just how bulky it is and how I'd need the car on a lift to even begin to try to squish it up there. So, I took off the intake. I pulled the rail and injectors to the side, and noticed that the two black top injectors are completely different style injectors. Maybe off of a 280ZX or something. Knowing the other PO tricks, they are probably a different size. Ugh, no wonder it gets shitty mileage. Seems easy enough to fix later though. Since the 6-1 headers didn't have an EGR port, I had to modify the intake a bit Some of the intake bolts were loose; someone's been here before. Also, some didn't have washers either. I found it amusing the way Nissan has only top bolts holding the intake on but just studs and washers pressing against the bottoms. I've ordered a mild steel 3" builder's kit, 24" "resonator", and a stainless 14" muffler. Couldn't find any decent tips online so I will hold off and check the local shops when it's all together. The 6-1 has a 2.5" exit, I've ordered a 2.5" to 3" transition. I'm making it 3" from header back because I plan on being able to swap from VG30ET to L28 more-or-less easily, and I don't want to have to make and then swap the entire exhaust system. I'll take photos when I start building the exhaust. It's loud as **** with open headers. I miss my turbo engines.
  22. I have used glasspack, or even better, steel mesh packed mufflers. Get one as long as you can fit under the car. Just makes sured it's perforated core as opposed to louvered.

  24. Brake bias, okay. But no whether my car has 200hp or 800hp, from 90kph it will still stop in the same distance (assuming the everything else is the same). I'm guessing that upgrading my brakes and wheels and tires so it can pop your eyes out, but putting in a 10 hp single cylinder engine so you can block the road is "safe" in their mind? Yes, but most of the rattling death traps aren't car enthusiasts, at least from where I live. Where I live the types that drive heaps get drunk and kill 5 innocent people--and don't have insurance. Well, I hope it never comes over the pond. We already have laws against exhibition of acceleration, reckless driving, etc. So, I should be able to drive my 8000hp VW beetle on the road as long as it is not driven in an unsafe manner--which again, is already against the law. I realize, and will even more if I move to CA.
