  1. Yup, good move. That car wasn't worth fixing, if it was even fixable by a non-professional. I have a car in far better shape than that one, and I expect I'll cut it up eventually. The new shell looks much better.
  2. The price doesn't seem too outrageous to me. Even if it's a little high (I have no idea if it is or isn't these days), I personally would just take the hit to have my car back.

  4. The scheme on the Mazda looks good, and I think that would look better, and would certainly be easier than your original idea. Could also just paint the rockers black if that's the only area you're having issues.

  6. Yup, strip it of useful parts, to keep for another project or sell onto someone else, scrap the chassis. That one isn't worth the effort. I have a chassis in far better shape than that, and it'll probably end up scrapped as well.
  7. Unless the rest of the car is absolutely pristine, I think I'd just scrap it. It looks like the whole roof structure needs to be replaced.
  8. Looks like it rotted from the inside of the panel, meaning that's only the tip of the iceberg. I'd do a full inspection of the entire car, but I think there's a good chance you'll be sending that shell to the scrap yard.
  9. Taking a look behind the panel to see if it looks like it's been cut up, or just bondo'd over should give you an idea of what will need doing to mount up the bumpers again.

  11. I don't know why you're so hung up on having material behind it. Just butt weld it. Don't make it more complicated than it needs to be.
  12. I'd probably just butt weld it at the top joint. I don't think I've ever seen someone do what you're doing there, mind you, I'm not a body expert.
  13. Yes, at the top and bottom of the A pillar, and also at the joint in the back.
  14. It has a 240Z rad support, rear strut towers, seat mounts, and rear bumper indents. So not only does it have a lot of botched work done to it, it also has an identity crisis. Could be an early 260Z chassis since it has the crash bumper support structures. I hate to see a Z parted out but I think that's a part out candidate.
  15. Look for the "donations" tab, between the calendar tab and the downloads tab, and make your donation there. The minimum I believe is $20. I'm not sure that this is the best place to sell such cars though. They look very nice, albeit totally stock (this site is dedicated to modified Z cars). The Z would be more appropriate here, not sure about the wagon. I think you might be better off trying to list them on http://bringatrailer.com/ as I think you're more likely to find the right kind of buyer there. You may also want to check out the https://www.classiczcars.com/ forums, as that site is geared more to stock cars/restorations.

  17. I've had four Zs to compare against (early 71, 72, 76, 78) and from what I can tell that's not really true. The series one cars do, in fact, have thinner metal (about 0.9mm vs 1mm for later models), but otherwise the metal thickness as far as I can tell is generally the same. What you will find in the later models is additional reinforcements used, which means more metal.
  18. Not sure what your friend is referring to, but it looks like a good solid '77 280Z to me.
